I think both Mirage and Luxor are good places for a beginner to play Poker.

Just played at HRH this past Fri and Sat, 1/3 NLHE and very loose easy group. Scenery was exceptional with Rehab going on Sat even though weather wasn't accomodating. Sat game started when I arrived $100 min/$500 max buy in and 2 hours in became $100 min no max buy in which changed the whole dynamic.

No max? Buy in with a 1,000 big bets. That's wild

Yep. Saw 6 people roll in and out in a 2 hour window and lose from $1k to $3k. Pre flop bets were $15-$30. One hand all in pre flop between 2 people was just over $3000. KK vs 66. 6 on the flop flop with QQ for a boat.

Played suuuuuuper tight when that started and grinded out up $1700 after coming in with $200 over the 7 hour session. My play hurt me a bit as they knew I was strong when I joined the chaos but was able to bluff twice because of it preflop.

Honestly, never again will I do that stunt. I had to really be patient and not get caught up in what was going on. Tough to just sit and watch some of the crap that went on.

Last year I stayed at the converting Quad. My last day I had some hours to kill so sat at a Hold 'Em with bonus table that was vs the dealer. I sat for like 5 or 6 hours since I had the time. Played no more than $40 per hand (includes ani, bonus, river and turn. I started with 60 and walked away with $700. Granted nearly half of that I won from the bonus (pocket Aces pay 30:1, i bet 10). Won another $100 on pocket ace and face (10:1 payout). You can play for as little as $15, don't remember what the max was if any.

My buddies joke with me it was beginner's luck since it was my first time ever actually playing to legal tender vs with friends in a fun game. But I'm looking at going back this coming weekend when I am there.

Are you looking for a good place to play real poker or the table casino game you described? These are obviously two very different things.

If you are looking for the table game I think most casino's have it nowadays, some even have multiple different games that are poker-based. If you are looking for an actual poker game I think if you want to play on a lower level most smaller casino poker rooms are good for cash games or try one of the multitudes of $50-100 buy-in tournaments. Most of them become a shove fest early on but as a beginner they are still fine. In the larger poker rooms (Caesar's, Bellagio, Venetian) the competition level is higher. But then again you can find a weak or strong table anywhere in Vegas at anytime.

Currently of course the World Series is running over at the Rio, which leads other strip casinos to have smaller buy-in special event series as well because the city is full of poker players. I myself might try out my luck at the Planet Hollywood Phamous Poker Series this week, buy-in's range from $75-$300 and they lay out some decent guarantee's.
