    Gents/Ladies,

Been lurking for a week or two so took the plunge and joined 'cos I'm a tad confused on where to stay and need a bit of info.

Looks like most of you guys have a load of experience about LV, so I'm hoping somebody can help me out?

    So here goes:-

Me and a pal are coming to Vegas on 23rd for 4 nights and are wondering where to stay. We're both in our early 30's, I'm 31 and my mate is 30. I've been trying to decide for weeks on where to stay. We want a good hotel on the strip with a great pool scene and hit the clubs at night.

I almost booked MGM, but just before pushing that "buy" button I got 2nd thoughts (you know like that feeling you get just before you jump off a 60ft cliff edge into the sea )

Anyways, I think I've whittled it down to 3. So could you give me the heads up on which would be best??

    MGM
    Mirage
    Planet Hollywood
    or A.N Other

    Cheers chaps

PS, we're off on a bit of a road trip after LV to LA and then up the coast to San Fran. So if by any chance anybody has info on what to do on the way I'll buy the drinks if you're around on the 23rd -26th!

    Again Thanks

Of the ones you've listed, Mirage is the way to go. It meets all of your criteria. Its regular pool is excellent, and you also have the choice of hitting Bare if you're looking for more of a party scene.

All of their king/double rooms have undergone a recent renovation. Mirage also has some good nightlife options in Jet and Revolution and its location is convenient to Tao (walking distance), Tryst, XS, The Bank (short cab ride), etc... Really, the location on the strip is almost unbeatable. Mirage also has some good restaurant choices in Stack, Kokomo's, Japanois, etc...

MGM's location is sub par, and it's so big that it takes forever to get anywhere while still in the MGM and isn't convenient to many other places on the strip. Planet Hollywood is a notch below the Mirage in all categories, IMO.

I can't help you with the road trip to LA, as I'm an east coast guy, but I'm sure someone on here can.

    Have a great trip.

Location is whats important to me. MGM is just too far south for me. I always want to be on the strip around flamingo rd. or slightly north of it. Id take HRH or the Palms, before anything south of Harmon St, because its cab ride anywhere I go at one those hotels.

Hey, I'm not the Vegas hotel expert but i'd thought i'd put my 50p's worth in as i'm from Manchester (UK) also!

I'm going out with a mate in August and we spent a long time debating what to do in terms of hotels, many an hour was spent on these forums and just when I thought I'd decided...i'd change my mind.

Firstly we were going for MGM, then really nearly went for Wynn, then Planet Hollywood, and finally randomly settled on Hard Rock..main reasons being we wanted somwhere that sounds pretty crazy (both 27, going to LV just to party) and we didn't want to mess around with getting into Rehab and Body English.

If you want to stay on the strip then I would be tempted by the Wynn, as its a good hotel, there's cool clubs and a good pool scene (so i'm told), but it might be a bit of an older crowd I guess?

Sorry, this probably isn't being too helpful! If I was in your shoes I'd be looking for the hotel that helped you get easier access to the clubs you wanted to go to, and had a good pool scene...I think if it was ME and I had to book a hotel on the strip, I'd be booking up Planet H or the Palms. But at the end of the day, you're going to be out and partying/gambling most of the time anyway, so anywhere that is half decent and pretty central should do...

Hopefully that was slightly helpful mate, and that I didn't just confuse you more!

I would choose Mirage and PH before MGM just like everyone else said MGM is kinda far south on the strip and even though it is a short cab ride to everywhere you'd be better off at Mirage due to how much is by there. Plus I've heard the sandwhich trick works wonders at the Mirage! PH is also a hot place to stay and they have Prive but from my experience and other on this site it's kind of a pain in the ass to get in. I'm sure it would be easier if you stay there but why chance it. Wynn/Encore are both amazing hotels and they are pretty much the newest on the strip and well their awesome! The rooms at Encore are huge! I just stayed there at the beginning of May and it was just great! Now another place I would also highly recommend is Palms!!! They have an awesome party scene and have 4 clubs/lounges that attract tons of people. They also offer pretty nice rooms but I'd recommend upgrading. Well those are my two cents, hope it helped!

Good idea - if one do an analysis of how many times they're going to use a cab up & down the strip from those southern strip hotels, then multiplies that by about $15-$20 cab+tip per fare, one will see that the cost savings of staying in a southern strip hotel doesn't equate... generally. If you think you're going to be going to Mandalay/Luxor/NYNY/MGM/Monte Carlo a good deal, then it makes sense to stay in that area of course.

One other note for the original poster - don't be afraid to book a room or multiple rooms. Typically, hotels will allow you to cancel your reservation and return the deposit to you up until 72 hours before your begin date. Of course, it's VERY important check the hotel's policy on cancellation online before doing so as some may vary (especially when it comes to deals). If it's fine, book it and then decide which hotel you wish to stay in a week before you go.

out of the 3 you listed I would choose Mirage then PH then MGM, but I would consider wynn like the others if you could swing it, but I would throw palms in the mix I know its off the strip but I swear by it especially for your age and if you like energy and excitement 24 hrs!!!

Mirage sounds like your best bet, as most of the guys here have said. I'd look into Planet Hollywood too though. The place has a better party scene IMO than Mirage, and it's still on the Strip unlike Palms or HRH.

                        Thanks fellas, much appriciated!!

So now it's a toss up between The Palms and Mirage.

Palms looks better for the club vibe whereas the Mirage has the location.

is it such a big deal being off the strip, it almost makes me feel like I'll not be in vegas if you know what i mean??

                        Cheers

If it's your first time, staying on the Strip would be best I think. Palms is awesome, but you don't really get the traditional Vegas feel staying there the whole time. Just stay at the Mirage and get an all club pass one night at the Palms for a complete experience.

I stayed at the MGM, and we had to take a cab everywhere we went. I would definitely go with Universal's suggestion to do the Mirage.

I was going to say depends on where you plan to go at night and the day. Taking a cab is expensive and takes a lot of time. Personally, I like Mandalay Bay for South Strip. North Strip, I like Mirage and Flamingo. Yes, I said The Flamingo. Off the Strip, I like the Palms.
