I don't even think the pools are open in December...

there are some pools open in dec and are heated BUT most pools close for maintenance and cleaning!

I protest that meaning of the word - a snowbird is a bird that's common in snowy regions, yet the slang of the term is a person who goes away from winter settings to warmer regions? Sorry, that slang's WRONG!

My August trip is not looking good, But December is in the works. I agree, wait until after summer season ends. September would be a starting point.

I wonder whats going to happen to hotel prices in the North Strip once City Center opens in December? Hopefully lower, but I predict 1 of the majors going BankErupt. PH or Luxor would be my bet. Maybe PH will give out 2 bottles per night and 2 big straws

Last Winter, the crowds were great, tons of people and not nearly as many Bros as Spring Break seems to gather.

Hotel prices are fairly cheap before Christmas, but around New Year's they get incredibly expensive. But the week before and during Christmas is a great time to go, lots of locals too!

are you on the email lists for all the major properties? you said you get offers from mgm, but maybe if you sign up at some of the other hotels' sites you'll start getting exclusive offers from them. I was in LV this past winter, from Dec 25 to Jan 4, and I ended up at Bally's for like 700 total (10 nights). It was an offer I got through Total Rewards and though not comped it wasn't half bad for New Years. And yeah, there were a ton of people there then, although i don't know about the week before Christmas. Is the rodeo over by then?

I am signed up for a few. Thanks! I was looking for one of those precisely. It looks right now though we'll be staying in the time share for free, which means money only spent on back home cabs. Very good for the wallet, but I'm still going to keep up with all the offers.

timeshare's not a bad idea, but let me tell you those shuttle/taxi trips get to be a pain. i was at the wyndham grand desert last memorial day, and even though its only a short ride to the shuttle drop off/pick up (which was on the side of Caesars) we sometimes got caught in typical Strip traffic and that made the trip MUCH longer. OR, we'd be waiting forever for a pickup because the shuttle was caught up.

And the shuttles only run every half hour or so after like 10, so you gotta time everything perfect. the friends i was with decided after the 1st day they'd rather just hang by the pool and not do the Strip/casino/club thing (the horror!) so by me trying to goad them out every night i ended up missing the shuttle a few times, then had to wait for the next one. and since it stops running at 1230 i ended up cabbing back solo every night, at maybe 15 bucks or so each time. pain in the butt, let me tell you, but like you said it was free.

IMHO though, the timeshare is only good if you're traveling with a big group and need a lot of space and/or a kitchen, you have kids with you that will only go so far on the Strip, or you're like my friends and you're really only in Vegas to relax and read a book, as opposed to rocking out with your.... well you know

Well, at this point the only thing we would be spending money on would be cab rides back...though I feel a few walk of shames coming next trip so maybe the shuttles will be running again

Mandalay just shot out an email for up to 30% off for winter months booking.. some midweek rates as low as $66/nite at MB. That's a helluva deal for that property.

Hey I stayed there last memorial day! I stayed in a 1 BR with DH and another couple. We booked less than a week before so we were stuck there. NEVER AGAIN. We had terrible luck with the shuttle never coming on time b/c of traffic and taxis were non existent. We got a great deal and I don't like to bash it, but it had a really bad vibe in my view. We didn't hang out there, but there were a ton of timeshare vultures always harassing us and a bunch of people who were yelling "That guy told me I had a free weekend, I ain't paying for this or that" and their "happy hour" was lemonade and cheap beer in a 6 oz cup...
Just lame, I really didn't like it, the room wasn't bad, but it was felt very cluttered, like the kitchen table was blocking the fridge. Since you cannot walk from there-we did the first night b/c no cabs came, it took like 45 mins to get to PH-and no cabs seem to come it is just not good. I would stay ANYWHERE else on the strip besides that place.

I guess I went on a rant-its cool we were there at the same time! Too bad about your friends, its hard to wrangle a group when you are the only one who wants to do something.

SECOND fatwallet-been a member for 5 years, this is the most updated list for vegas IMO, and you don't need to check your emails. Plus you can search the thread for a particular hotel. You should be able to get a great deal b/c of your dates.

be careful what you say otherwise you might have 50 or 60 male members following you to vegas in december
