I have a comped for the Rio for 3 nights. Or I can pay 585.00 for 3 nights for a city room at the Cosmo. I know the location is better at the Cosmo as well as the room. Will only use the room to sleep and shower. I would love to stay at the Cosmo but I can use the extra 600.00 bucks on other things. What would you do?

Assuming you go to the strip and back twice a day, you'd be paying about $60/day in cab fairs. So the Rio room actually saves you about $400. Unless that $400 can drastically increase your fun budget...I'd stay at Cosmo...or select another hotel that is on par with Rio quality but on the strip. You should still be able to get a room for less than Cosmo, and still be on the strip.Like all great travelers, I've seen more than I remember, and remember more than I have seen.

The last time I went to Rio, it was literally depressing. I loved Rio in 2001, not so much now. It just doesn't give me that "I'm excited to be in Vegas" vibe anymore. I agree with Chuck, unless that $600 takes your trip to the next level, I'd go with Cosmo.Comment

Depends on what u are planning for this trip. i'm definately a splurger big time :-/ But free is free also so this is a tough one. If you are planning this as something that you dont wanna spend a lot on lodging I'd say rio and then try the shuttle that runs from rio to strip at least once if its horrible then i guess thats 60 x 2 instead of the x 3? Thats if u are budgeting.. However if this is a trip that you are comfortable with dropping loot. Then I'd say cosmo all the way especially if its a place you've been wanting to stay badly.. Or.. if it were me since rio is part of the total rewards I'd attempt to negociate. I not familiar with las vegas comp offers yet (unfortunately) But i'm sure someone can confirm if this is even possible... But I'd definately ask.. all they can say is no. I'd try to find out if its at all possible to be booked on a strip total rewards property even if its less nights and in a lower room category(whichi i would again attempt to upgrade at the desk on arrival). Even if they could only offer 1 free night or even just a deeply discounte rate I'd consider staying in the middle of the action. But then again thats all depending on how your looking for this trip to go. Free is always great but what the above members said makes a lot of sense. Any hotel that has given any1 a depressing feelings makes me wanna shy away but at the same time free is free. All in all depends on what u think ;-)Comment

$250 is enough to party good for a night...and Vdara is right there and has City Center monorail access. Hi I am having the same issue with my girlfriends. It will be a total of three girls and 2 wants to stay at the Stratosphere. I want to stay at the Cosmopolitan but they dont want to pay the extra 500 so I would have to eat it. My concern it the cab ride expense and the bus looks like a joke. Seems it would take forever to get to the south end of the strip. My question is should I just suck it up an pay the extra to stay at Cosmo?Comment

That was very usefull cause I book it though them via Jet Luxary resort. Got a rate of 89.00 per day for a deluxe studio suite. I like the pics of the room better then the city room at Cosmo and I saved 200.00 buck. I think you get more bang for your buck there. I know it doesn't have a casino but Aria is only a 5 minute walk and I love there poker room. I going to Vegas in the beginning of march and I come in on a Monday so it's a short walk to marquee. Go on the totalrewards website and look at the vegas rate calender, if you have comps at rio you probably have comps at the other hotels on the strip.Comment

I have stayed at cheap cheap hotels so I get wanting to save the money (ah the college Vegas trips) but the Strat is sooo far. If cheap is what they want staying at The Quad would even be a better option just based on location. Excalibur and Circus Circus are a tiny bit nicer than The Quad but still cheap and better options than staying at the Strat. I dont usually splurge on the hotel room because we really do just crash and shower there and I have personally seen a group of ladies destroy a hotel room in 2 hours while getting ready regardless of how nice it was to start with.Originally posted by Jay View PostUp Next:
