well it's been happening for awhile now from what I've read....
So I hit up my usual promoter for quotes on Patio Tables 940-970 or Daybeds on the bar side couple weeks ago for 9 guys. Quote from his host is right off the bat is $3k+500 for Patio Tables and at least 2k spend with tip for the daybeds. I'm thinking this is crazy high with all the competition for that Sunday and decided to get some additional quotes...
2nd host is a well regarded Host on these forums. I've had email contact with him before but unfortunately never booked. Shot him an email and got quoted $3k min straight up for the 900 tables. ehhh still out of budget....
3rd host is also a well regarded Host from JC. Shot host 3 a text and got back $2.5+500 for either patio table or daybed. After some chopping it up over text he offers the 900s for $2k+500. Seemed like a cool guy. I tell him I'll run the numbers by the guys over the weekend and confirm in a few days.
At this point I'm pretty annoyed over all this +$500 shit so I hit up another host who I locked in a booking for MDW as well asking if he has a recommended host that won't ask upfront about the +$500. Shoots back a contact. By this time it's already this week.
4th host contacted $2k+500 for 900's and $2.5+500 for daybeds.
At this point it seems as pretty much the +$500 is what's going to get the requested spots so I give in. "Gotta pay to play" in Vegas. I contact host 3 to lock it in because he seemed like a cool guy and offered the rate first. Says now that it'd have to be $2.5+500. I text back host 4 to see if it's still good for that rate and lock it in.
So long story short...yes, this practice is still going at XS and it looks as if pretty much everyone is on board? It only makes sense for the whole host team to get that $500 since the tip is pooled and split. I mean I'm not against tipping or anything but asking $500 upfront is just a bit of a turnoff...I'm used to the customer offering the tip amount and working from there....
Yep, my understanding is that for all holiday weekends, you won't get inside unless you tip $500

Yeah forgot to mention that this was for XS Nightswim this Sunday. Outside tables though...I can imagine pricing being high if the inside was closed but of course we know it's not...
Won't get in the door without $500? Are they demanding people with presales to show them the money too?
Sorry, I meant you won't get an INSIDE TABLE for less than $500 handshake (not that you won't get inside the venue).

It's an Economics lesson in supply and demand I guess! Still I would choose to go somewhere else if this was the ask. It's not as if XS is the be all end all of clubs in Vegas that night. Especially on a holiday weekend!
