Hey all,
I just got back from Vegas and felt like I need to share my experience a bit (read: I need to vent). And while you guys always seem to like a trip report, I shall deliver. Although, as you can tell by the title I could use some tips how to make it better next time. And where do I find more like-minded people with understanding that in these here forums? Exactly! I don’t want to be a mood killer though, so don’t take this the wrong way
So I planned my birthday in Vegas with two good friends of mine (actually, I invited 8 friends, but only 2 came along in the end… so much for friends with a sense of party, right? In their defense, I have to add that we’re European, so the travel alone was quite an expense not everybody could afford). I had the weekend all planned months in advance; probably making the first mistake: building up hype that we could never live up to!
Anyhow, I had craftsteak reserved for a good dinner with a free limo pick-up to Spearmint Rhino’s and an additional limo with hosted entry to XS after that. No table though, as the three of us didn’t have that kind of budget. Not too bad one would think, right? In all fairness, it did turn out being a good night, but not the extra-super-crazy night people would talk about for weeks to come (which I kind of hoped it would be…). Why is that, you ask? Well, I guess we’re getting old (35 years average!) and my friends are more the pub type than the club type. But I thought XS is going to change their minds a bit.
So the steak at craftsteak was awesome. Best I ever ate. However, my friends started off by bemoaning their lack of sleep and headache (yeah, I know…). I chose to ignore the mood kill and hyped them up for what was to come. Spearmint Rhino itself was great. The girls were in our humble opinion absolutely fabulous. The fact that my friends didn’t get a dance (even though I offered to pay for it) speaks volumes in itself. Go figure out the minds of some people…
Off to XS where we met our host and she got us in with no hassle. Unfortunately the club was jam-packed so you couldn’t go sightseeing (I’ve never been, so I wanted to see it entirely), in fact you could barely move at all. The crowd went crazy outside (not the good crazy) and the bouncers had some work to do keeping people from pushing and shoving. So we stayed stationary, enjoying drinks, a cigar and some minor dancing (as I said…not the club type). Maybe I am too considerate, but if I see my buddy staying in a corner with a face like a rainy Monday I am not going to keep him in the club all night, so we moved location way too early. Figures that around 3am we didn’t really find another place to continue properly (the places were either empty or the lines were too long), so at 4 am the night was over. A bit sad, really.
For Sunday we had actually planned wet republic. But we skipped that since I figured that if they didn’t like XS, they’re not going to enjoy a day in the Vegas heat in a crowd. One guy was already bemoaning his sunburn from the day before. Bummer, really. So in the evening I changed my plans, trying to change the atmosphere from expensive lounge/club & drinks to a bit cheaper pub & beer style. So off to Hooters for chicken wings with sights set for Vanity later (due to the proximity and I heard Vanity Sundays are decent). We actually ended up having fun at Hooters (go figure…) and then somehow ended up at Voodoo Lounge instead of Vanity. The sights are great but the crowd and atmosphere was a bit on the slow side. So I dragged them to Hard Rock anyhow, but instead of Vanity we ended up at the bar drinking until 6am. Again, the night went ok, but not the crazy party I hoped for in Vegas. Maybe I should have dragged them to Nine Irish Fishermen or something a bit more pub like. But hindsight is always 20/20, right?
Monday was slow and we left after that, so not much more to report.
So you see, the trip didn’t go as I hoped for and I guess I’ll try something different next time. Whether it be different venues or different people remains yet to be decided ;-).
Cheers
