sorry but any DJ worth a dollar would never do this. Most DJ's who play house or EDM don't just have a magical box full of top 40 hip hop in case some drunk chick isn't feeling their music. I get asked all the time as a DJ to play this or play that I always yell right back "Yeah I was going to play that but the other guy already did!"
Isn't the point of a DJ to get the crowd hype and have them have as much fun as possible?

I understand and respect not responding to individual demands but if the party is dead because of the music...
He was talking about a DJ worth a dollar. Your talking about DJs worth hundreds.

It's just funny, and I dont know if anyone else has noticed, but when I'm at a pool party (and they all pretty much play EDM exclusively) they'll start to play like a snippet of a hiphop song and EVERYONE gets hyped and starts dancing...then they go right back to the "dunce dunce dunce" and everyone sits down again. Kinda funny.

It wasn't "some drunk chick" who wasn't feeling his music. NOBODY at the pool was. There was no energy until he switched up his music to hip hop. And, in this case, he was an open format DJ and had plenty of different types of music to choose from.

Yeah, because it takes so much more talent to play that Tiesto song from 2008. Unless you're producing your own music and it's music people want to listen to, I don't see the difference.

One friend that DJs told me he plays certain types of genres to clear the dancefloor so people will buy drinks.

However, another friend plays certain kind of music because that's what his nights are catered to (dancehall, reggae, soca). He also plays hip hop, but wouldn't change genres to please the crowd.

I guess to each their own. (Both have played in clubs).

Wow clearing the dance floor so people buy drinks, very unprofessional. All I was trying to say is that if a DJ is booked to play EDM or whatever his style may be he is not going to be able to switch it up just because some people don't like the music. If I am booked to play at a night that caters to Dubstep for example I'm not going to pull out the David Guetta track some tramp heard on MTV just for her I don't care how hot she is. It's just as insulting to ask a local DJ to switch it up as it would be to roll up on Avicii and ask him to rock out some 50 cent. 99.999% of the time they don't have the track you want to hear anyway.

^^ Assuming you can sense the mood of the crowd, would you just keep playing Dubstep hoping the next song will make the club pop? Wouldn't it be in your best interest to have a variety of music? Not to please any random person, just to keep things moving.

                No hate, just curious.

I have a friend thats been DJing for over a decade. And he was saying how the choice of music is different from the first 2 hours than when everyone is pretty much in the club. Choices also differ once people already have alcohol in them as far as which music is played.

A dj creates moods and the vibe of the place. They have to play to the emotions of people and the environment.

Im sorry but comparing yourself to Avicii is a step too far. Headline Djs like Avicii and Kaskade are almost like a concert. Most people there came to specifically hear that DJ perform. Most of the people are fans of their work and are gonna love no matter what they play.

A local dj is hired to keep the crowd going, entertain people and make sure that people have a good time. They have to be more flexible.

When was the last time someone went to see Avicii play and said " Man this music blows, lets go somewhere else " ? Versus a local DJ. Ive never left when a headline dj is playing, unlike local djs where ive bounced many times because the crowd was bored to tears.

Don't get me wrong people will have different preferences when comes to music which is understandable but just wanted to comment on the hate.
The pic is stating techno as a generalization of the electronic music genre as "EDM" was not popular terminology way back when referenced song was made.
I've learned I'm fine w/ EDM as long as it has words to sing along to because drunk me likes to morph into an American Idol complete w/ imaginary microphone. But for the most part yes I'm a hater.

That being said, OP I think your best bet would be Marquee as mentioned before, because you will get the benefit of the better talent selection of a mega club but have the option to head down to the boombox room for your music preference. Best of both worlds.

I like like different types of music, but there are a lot of population songs I don't like. But, I still DL em on my databases because of the types of people who will like em. Then, I'll break em out depending on who I need to cater to... Now, yeah Avicii should never but out Tupac or Drake bust out with Barbara Streisand(*not duck sauce) ... But, if your party is dead then yeah... Switch it up or people will leave an never come back.

But then, I take that as... Either, you don't like our kind or I'm just gonna adapt an overcome. Now I pull whether I'm freakin or shufflin
I still remain "the best kept secret"
