Another tip is if you are flying from outside the US, you can always buy from Duty Free at the airport (not anymore expensive than CVS or Walgreens on the strip), they carry it for you onto the plane and all you have to do is haul it with your luggage (you'll be in a cab anyways) to your hotel
Which brings me to a question of my own, can you do this if you're flying within the US? This being purchasing alcohol at Duty Free shops. Thanks in advance.Comment

Up until a year or so ago you had to have an internatonal ticket to buy at Duty Free for Detroit and Minneapolis, and then, as you stated, they wil meet you in the jetway with your booze and smokes... However, I have gotten away with just showing my passport in both Tokyo and Schipol with no problems, as I had just landed and didn't have a ticket to show. Told them my wife was at my gate with my ticket and we were headed home.
