  • Warning for night club passes etc.

So you're in Vegas and all excited. Maybe it's your first trip or maybe it's your friend that is the virgin. Either way someone in your group makes the mistake - they PURCHASED passes for the night club. Yup. Happens all the time. It's the typical method for the "streets" to make quick cash - leaving you or your buddy feeling good until they hit the line...

I was at ___ last night and saw 3 different scams within 1 hour.

    1. Purchased club passes that they could get for free for $10. This was a Wednesday night folks. NEVER buy passes.

    2. Purchased FAKE passes. Made on a home computer and look legit. The club may even want to hire them for marketing materials. Unfortunately this isn't the Super Bowl so nobody cares about counterfeiting. Bought them for $20 a piece. Worthless. NEVER buy passes.

    3. "Yo me and my brother have a table and just need 4 girls to help walk us in." Yeah happens all the time ladies. If you're attracted to the guys, confirm they're actually on a table list, and all is well - go for it. (That happens like 1% of the time.) My advice - don't do it and go directly to a promoter at the venue or a host.

Hoping to spread some good advice & karma on here - if you know a host or promoter stick with them. This site is a fantastic way to make that very valuable first connection. There are folks that work directly for your favorite spots. Contact them and make that relationship so you or your friends don't waste time and money on silly scams.

Awesome advice Craig!! I nearly fell victim to the street vendors on my first trip to Vegas. Luckily for me I was with some Vegas Veterans who steered me clear. They do make it sound very convincing!

Honestly, I've had success with them 90% of the time.

The caveats are that you gotta get past the line by midnight and if the passes are old the club may no longer honor them.

The thing is, why pay for them when you can get them for free from the desk clerk/waiter/concierge/etc at the property?

The closest I've come to using one of these was on our last trip, four of us walking (2 guys 2 girls) and someone said "Hey, these will get you into The Bank for only $20 guys and $10 girls".... I asked him if worked for the bank and when he said "yes" I told him then she should be able to get us in for free, other hosts can (not that I thought he was since he was working the street).... sure enough he walked us to The Bank and right in... for free!

The street people are just hustlers, if they work for the club they CAN NOT charge for them. The passes usually say "NO VALUE" or something similar.

I hope you're not paying for them. You can get in guestlists for free, arrive early and you're in.

I learned my lesson the hard way. Bought passes for LAX (on a Wednesday no less) for 4 dudes for $10 total.

Later on that night this guy that actually works for the club asks if we need passes and I say no and show him the passes I bought. He laughs and says "these are old and won't work" and throws them in the trash. Hands us other passes that get us in for free.

I was there when he did that. Or this has happened more than once. Hilarious actually but FREE does exist in Vegas.

There are passes that say "Do not pay for these. If you do we will check your ID and your IQ" hahaha.

Please tell me you didn't pay for them though! That's the key to this *warning* thread. A credible host/promoter/concierge/etc. - like Wisco mentions - will not ask for money in exchange for a pass.

For whatever it's worth, all the new Crown Nightclub passes say "$30 value" because we don't see the harm in putting a value on something that has true value. Why? Because we always honor passes, even on holiday weekends except NYE. The catch? They are pretty limited as far as entry times. Free *if you get into the club* by 11pm on Wednesday and Fridays. Half off til midnight all nights except the free times. The real problem is that clubs use passes as bait and switch. Vegas clubs are notorious for this and ultimately lose their own relationships with patrons by not honoring passes (even busy weekends because the customers don't always read the small print).

note: this was years ago before JC.

I got caught before. this guy caught us on the street and gave us wristbands for prive saying he'd 'get us in.' when we get there go right up the escalator with no problem and at the door they tell us its $40. I was shocked but I paid because I wanted to check it out and I'd rather be in a club drinking, etc. than tying to 'save money' while in vegas. I thought the way it went down was shady though...
