Great Craps Tutorial

Only strategy that has ever worked for me is the following:
*lets say its a $5 table*
(Before come out roll)
$5 on Passline
$5 on Don't passline
-- this means you only lose on a 12 (1 in 36 chance)

Anything else you break even if you do nothing.
2/3/7/11 -- win on pass and lose on down ... or win on don't lose on pass

If the point is set 4/5/9/10 I lay odds on Don't Pass - has the highest probability of coming of any number 2 to 1 over 4/10s and 3 to 2 on 5/9 ... and with an odds bet the house edge is 0%

So effectively the house edge in this method is .8% (8/10ths of a percent) .... since you have a 1/36 chance of losing on a 12 on the come-out roll but only 30% of rolls are come-out rolls you stand a great chance to play for a long long time and personally I have NEVER lost money doing this -- broke even a few times (after tips/drinks) ... so thats a win in my book

Hey sidekicknicholas on this method, say the point is 4. You are playing don't pass. Do you bet on any points at all? I know you will bet hardways sometimes but do you play come bets? Lay or place any points?

To me that's part of the fun, making money while waiting on the point (or 7) to hit. But in this case a 7 is more likely to hit 1st with just the random shooter who is not setting the dice.

Nope nothing - and rarely hardways too.
The only times I play and lay/place bets is if the point is 6 or 8.... Lets say the point is 6, I take no action on my Don't Pass or Pass line (those will break even) and just throw $6/$12 on the 8...

Playing a different set of odds on this one - If the 6 comes, oh well, I break even and can take my money down after the next come out

If the 8 comes I use the following press/same bet rule:
1st hit - take the money (bet is paid for now)
2nd hit - Press it
3rd hit - Take it
4th - Press --- and so on, odd number of hits 1/3/5/7 I take the money, even numbered hits I press the bet

... obviously a quick 7 causes me to lose but now I'm 10/36 of hitting something that helps (or at least doesn't hurt - 6/8) and 6/36 of hitting the 7 that could hurt - but only for a few bucks

I agree...I will test this out in December on random shooters. I like that I can play the pass and dont pass and determine which one I want to continue playing based on the number hit. I think for 5s and 9s though I might play those as Pass...

For the most part this is a great method to use. It is the funnest and also very simple to follow along with. To me, covering extra numbers like he does is equivalent to owning hotels in Monopoly. When the dice 'land' on those numbers, I get paid.

Where I divert from his strategy and recommend to anyone to do the same, is instead of pressing his pass line bet, press the free odds instead. The house has no edge on the free odds and they pay much better.

Or, when the table is cold and no one is shooting, definitely look into sidekicknicholas' strategy. I plan to try that as well in Vegas this December.

sidekick: interesting strategy, and I'll be looking to try that my first time playing craps next weekend. Just a few questions:

- do you bet more aggressively when the 4 or 10 hits? or keep to your minimum?
- when the 8 hits and you decide to bet, is it more benificial to place your bet on the 8 or play the odds on the pass line?
- do you pass up your chance do throw the dice? I've heard that it's customary for "don't bettors" to just pass the die.

Not usually, as the game goes on and my stacks get larger I try and "bank" money to my pocket that I don't touch. If/when I double my seed money I pocket all the seed money and bet a little more aggressively with the "winnings" since I really don't care what happens to this. An even night with drinks is a win in my book.

Say an 8 is the point... I won't bet don't pass or pass beyond my initial money to get on... they break even. I WILL however place money on the 6, so each and everytime it is hit I will get paid. Taking my winnings on the 1st/3rd/5th/odd hits and pressing the bet on the 2nd/4th/6th/even number of hits.

When it is my turn to throw I will throw.... but 99% of the time I will only bet my $5 pass and $5 don't pass (just to keep in the game).... When I throw I try and hit points for people so they don't hate me for cashing in on all the 7s. Its my time to try and make others money. If the table, including myself, have been cold I might bet don't pass, but it is rare.

Make sure you take advantage of free odds! Best bet on the table. There's a reason it's not written on the table!
