    Hi all!

So I'm looking into my other trip to Vegas in August for my birthday, and I'm having a difficult time figuring out what hotel to stay at. We'll be there Friday-Monday.

Originally it was The Flamingo, then I switched to Monte Carlo (it's cheaper than the flamingo but still a nice hotel). We also plan on staying 4 people to a room. But with my plans of not really sleeping, I'm thinking of just doing the Imperial Palace since it's a prime location on the strip. Plus it's half the price and I can spend that money on alcohol.

Now, I've heard bad things about it and that it was a dump so I'm a bit nervous. Have any of you stayed there? What do you guys think?

    Thanks!

I used to stay there all the time because of the reasons you mentioned.

Their regular rooms are basically like Motel 6 and after walking through the casino you have to walk back outside to get to the rooms.

Their "deluxe" rooms are only a little bit more and are in the tower. I recommend those rooms.

As long as you know what to expect it's not terrible

Yeah the deluxe rooms are still half the price of the Flamingo (though the price is going down, yessss!), so I was thinking those at $80/90 a night.

I can stand Motel 6 status.. I'm not generally creeped out, I'll just not sleep with the top cover LOL. I was looking at the reviews and getting super worried.

        Thanks guys!

Honestly if you are partying the location can't be any better. Also if you are partying, you are just going to be using the bed and the showers to get ready anyway. Works out for the best! Just don't expect to be WOW'd.

Wow, you are a stronger individual than me. I had friends staying there once and I almost died.

It's really low end. So, as long as that's okay with you. Then go for it. I've had many friends stay there. I personally can't, but to each his own. I would keep with the Monte Carlo.

The Monte Carlo is now actually more than the Flamingo, so back to Flamingo it is... if we don't do the IP.

I've stayed in some pretty crappy places (for Coachella last year, we had to bring our own sheets to the hotel, and I showered in sandals!), so there are ways to get around that haha. I'll just need to talk with people that are going to see if that's how they want to stay vs. a nicer hotel.

                Thanks!

It's true you have to balance your needs - room quality vs. drinking money vs. shopping etc. I usually book the basic room they try and get an upgrade at check in.

If you decide on IP - let's us know about the stay via your TR.

Yeah.. I've never tried the upgrades. How often does that happen, or how would I go about doing that?

I'll let you know for sure

You book a regular room, then take your chances upon check in, either with a "sandwich" or just asking. It's worked 100% of the time for me. But I also travel to Vegas during the least popular times - November, December - when the availablity of suites are plentiful and upgrades are likely.

Forgive me for asking...but what is a "sandwhich"? I saw other people posting about it but I have no idea what it is lol.

I've also stayed at Imperial in a Deluxe room.

Here is what I have to say about it.
The decor is not amazing and the amenities inside of the room are rather outdated. The description of the Motel 6 quality is quite accurate. If your goal is to save money and have a central party location, then the value is unbeatable. However, if you want to be surrounded by nice things this may not be the place for you.

                          As previously mentioned...
                          1.You will survive
                          2.Don't expect to be wowed

                          Lastly...
(If you do decide to go through with staying at IP)
STAY FAR AWAY FROM THE BUFFET!
                          I Love Vegas!

It's where you put your tip in between your ID and your credit card when checking in at the front desk. The money you are handing to them indicates to them that you are interested in tipping them for an upgrade.

But really you don't need to be this slick. An average front desk agent does hundreds of check ins and outs per day. They understand what's up. Just ask them for an upgrade and put the money on the counter.

The sandwich is kind of amateurish these days (imo). I think it's easier to just be up front and ask while making sure they know you'll take care of them...
