  • Do girls need to give a "handshake"

    Hey Friends-
Every time I go to Vegas I just ask the bouncer if I can go straight in or I used a promotor of some sort to get on the quest list. I've never paid money and never had to wait more then 10 minutes or so. I keep getting messages from girls and guys saying that if I give their friend a "nice handshake" I can get straight in with no waiting. Is this typical or what? I want to know what promotors think and expect. And for that matter, what everyone else thinks.
Thanks for your time! 6 more days!
    Dear Vegas,

it's been far too long! See you on July 10th - July 15th!

Girls giving handshakes is really at your discretion. If you feel the service your host gave you such as letting you cut in line/ waived cover warrants a handshake, then by all means do it. I think it also helps you establish a relationship with a certain host.

Not required but certainly appreciated by the host. After all, tips are how they make their living.

No different than tipping a bartender, IMO, it's just on a different scale.

I did it once at Chateau, with hilarious results. My friend and I were guestlist (another friend go-gos there) but her brother and his friends were in town for a bachelor party and wanted to tag along. The host (don't remember his name) was cool enough to let the guys in right away with us so I tried to do a 'special handshake.'

The host was not expecting it. I really hope it was his first night on the job, bless his heart. He very obviously holds up my carefully-folded-for-such-an-occasion bill and was all "Are you sure? You didn't have to do that!" Loudly. In front of everyone.

hahaha thats funny. Thats totally something I would do. I think I'd pay a little extra to skip the line (I'm not getting any younger and soon won't be able to pull of "skipping the line"), especially for pool parties, because we all know, you feel like crap until you can start drinking again. It's just me and another girl going, so I'm not too sure what the protocal is and how much I should tip just for the convience of skipping the line.

Again its up to you, but $10-20 per girl should be good.

I think it's appropriate for ladies to tip; but all the hosts/security/bussers/door men usually refuse at first – then I insist.

If you don't have a host for a particular club you might be dropping by, you won't know what service the bouncer gave you until you're walking into the club. It would definitely be kind of you to tip the bouncer if he gets you into the club quickly. But as mentioned above they generally don't expect tips from ladies.

Bypassing the line is going to depend on what time you go, how busy it is at that particular club, the girl/guy ratio of your party, and (let's be honest) your level of attractiveness. If you go up to one of the door guys and ask if you can bypass the general line, most of the time they will probably shake their head and pretty much ignore you unless you're attractive. Especially if it's a busy night. The more ladies (especially attractive ones) present, the better it is for the club. It's no secret that part of what makes a club appealing is the amount of hot girls. You sort of expect it at a popular nightclub. It's definitely not uncommon for door guys to bypass groups of good-looking ladies from the regular line, nor is it common for them not to tip. I would assume 90% of their tips will come from groups of guys wanting to bypass the line.

Did you already find your door host contacts for each club you're attending? I've always had success contacting them ahead of time to get on their guestlist. This was a great way to bypass the line, and I gave them a good tip.

I just show up and say I'm on the guestlist. I signed up on the free guestlist for Tryst off Clubzone, dressed my best, and they gave me a once over and let me skip the lines without paying a dime.

Is tipping the general consensus for a host setting up a guestlist? Or is that just if you're trying to walk in without a guestlist? Thanks!
