  • Anyone sad about the disappearance of hiphop/top40?

In the tier 1 clubs anyway.

I like EDM (eletronic dance music) to death and I often visit venues with big name DJs when they come to my local places.

But in Vegas, I prefer hiphop/top40..

XS used to be my favorite spot because they played a good mix of everything. But now, in order to compete with Marquee, it seems like they've gone full house with a new DJ stage setup and everything.

The house/trance crew in Vegas might be different but locally (LA)...

House: People are not really drunk. They are on something else. People dance by themselves or in their own little circle only. People are not really out to meet new people or "party" (mostly there for the music). Weird to grind up on girls or even approach them without coming off as needy/weird.

Hiphop/top40: People are DRUNK. People dance with everyone. People are there to socialize and party it up with whoever is fun. Better to grind up on girls.

Anyone else sort of feel this way?

Yep. My plan is to drink so much that it doesn't matter what they're playing. I think I'm going to have to hit up at least one hip hop spot though.

NOPE!! not at all. You can hear that commercial hip hop and Top 40 anywhere in the country. When your in Vegas, you want something different, otherwise , its just like partying at home??!! I might be a little biased since i have been down with EDM for about 15 years. From the early techno days, to the trance area, to now. I am so happy that EDM has take over the Vegas nightlife!! You used to have to go to places like the old Utopia to hear it back in the day, but not now. Most casino floors play EDM now!

Aww sorry to hear! But I must say I started to love XS so much more now with the all house selection. Also noticed that the club is more packed then ever.

edm all day everyday. i went to pure one night last year and they played fat joe on the terrace and i almost died. i think some people just say they don't like it because they don't know the dj's and the songs.

i couldn't possibly agree more. for one thing, good parties are about a mix of music. house, hip hop, pop, oldies, mashups etc. second, one of the most fun things to do when drunk is sing along to the music, and there's no real lyrics to sing along to in edm (save for a three word verse repeated over and over). edm has its place, but to be the only thing you can listen to in a top club is ridiculous. it's a fad that i hope passes soon. the weak dollar has brought a lot of europeans to vegas, where edm is more popular.

Much rather party to hiphop/top40 than house. I guess you just have less of a selection on any given night. Sad indeed.

Me being a huge EDM listener I am extremly happy with the fact Tier 1 clubs favors EDM. But I dont mind partying to some hip-hop either. This past saturday @ Marquee before the Kaskade took over DJ played some hip-hop tracks and I was digging it but soon as Kaskade came over it was a true blast for me!

So XS plays predominantly house music these days? I was there about 6 months ago and they played a good amount of top 40 (dance remixes) and hip hop. That's no longer the case?

What's the friday night crowd like in the boom box room at Marquee?
