  • I seem to be missing something..

I am not getting a few things.

    1. The whole host thing.. what exactly does he do for you that warrants such a chunk of change?
    2. Why is it so dang expensive to go to a tier 1 club.
    3. I seem to do well money-wise, but 1-2k at a club at night... Am I not seeing the connection?

I maybe missing the "Vegas" lingo, but it seems to me that in order to go to any of the nice clubs, I have to bring a wad of cash just to get in, then bottle service ($400+, are they out of their minds?)

What if I want to just go check out the club, buy a drink or two then leave? I want to see some of the nicer clubs, but dont have thousands to spend on them...

    Am I missing something?

Bottle service is good for the following people:

    1) large groups of guys (who don't want to wait in line)
    2) large groups (there to celebrate)
    3) those who want to stay at the club for a majority of the night (have room to sit)
    4) people who drink heavily
    5) guys who want to attract girls
    6) people who are just loaded and have plenty to spend

and a combination of all these things.

    Simple calculations:
BS: For every 3 guys, you get 1 bottle. Bottle + Tax + Tip is running you $600 (200 per person). You don't wait in a line that can be up to an hour plus long, you have a place to "hang", you can offer girls drinks, and you don't have to wait at the bar for a drink (which can take a while).

No BS: Line can be over an hour at tier 1 clubs. Average guy gets 7 drinks at the bar @ $15/drink? That's already $105 + another 15 in tips to the bartender. Plus, waiting for the bartender to get to you, takes a while.

If you're just going to "see what the clubs about" and move to the next club, BS is not worth it. But you may be waiting in line for a while.

You tip the host for: 1) holding your table reservation (and not get bumped for future reservations) 2) getting a better table location 3) getting you in the door 4) sitting hot girls next to your table 5) comp'ing you things like water + red bull 6) refers you to other hosts at other clubs for good deals/tables.

    Anything else i'm missing?

The City of Sin aka Sin City and you too can play, if you pay...

It comes down to supply and demand.

There's a lot of people that want to feel, in a word: important. Las Vegas was one of those places that gave and still gives you the feeling that you too can be a VIP, for a price.

I don't know too much about other cities like NYC and Miami, but I know that in NYC it seems more likely who you know than what you know if you want to get into a club. That's the same way it is in Vanshitty.

But, in Las Vegas, everything is a non-issue if you're willing to pay to play.

There are people out there that willing to pay thousands and thousands for bottle service, getting bled and blown dry, so nightclubs are more than happy to oblige.

        Some articles to think about:

Supply and demand? Not being rude, but have you ever been to Vegas? The lines to get into these clubs are scary long (I've waited 3 hours to get into Rain back a few years ago). If bottle service and skipping lines was cheap, everybody would do it...by making it expensive, the club makes their money and people willing to spend get preferential treatment. Makes sense to me.

I'm from Baltimore, and being older and in a better financial position than I used to be, I've done bottle service at small clubs here and paid $250 for Ketel One....$400 for a bottle in Vegas is pretty reasonable by that logic. You don't have to spend $1000 to have fun at the club, but it's a pretty good bet that you'll have a good ass time if you do! And you won't spend all night in lines.

Is your comment aimed at ashroid or the OP?

It is supply and demand. Tons of people - very few tables. People willing to spend a crapload of money for a table - to not wait in line, not wait for the bartender , and get girls. There are a lot of nights where tables get booked quick, and drives prices up. I've personally seen a 3-4k table that was "reserved" go for 10k b/c a guy was willing to pay for a table on a sold out night.

First of all no, you don’t need table service. You can wait in line like everyone else and club hop for the evening. Hey, if it isn’t a weekend night, you may even be able to get in at a minimum expense. Lots of people do what you do; they have a drink, look around and they either leave or stay. Of course, lots of people don’t want to leave after they spend 2 hours waiting in line or drop money on cover and drinks but that is your own choice.

Regarding your other questions, you seem to be referring to table service so let me lay it out for you.

I am not getting a few things.

                      1. The whole host thing.. what exactly does he do for you that warrants such a chunk of change?

Well, let’s pretend for a second that you wanted to do the whole things yourself. You want to just book the night, check in, get your table number, walk there and have someone bring you a bottle of booze and be done with it.

                      Fine.

So what happens when some asshole decides to spill booze all over your table and you want him gone with a capital G. Oh wait, that’s right. You don’t know the bouncers and security guards. Sorry, tough rocks. Hope you have strength in numbers.

What about when your drinks aren’t coming on time or you are missing something from your order or you want a different server….ohh…. That’s right, you don’t know any better and ended up with whatever hostess was assigned to your table. No luck there….

What about if you want to bring some additional people in the club and want the cover waived? What if you want to bring your booze home with you and you want someone to pack it up for you? How do you know what table has the best view or is closest to the DJ booth or dance floor? What if you want food brought up from the downstairs restaurant or your mixers aren’t to your liking?

You need people to do these things for you and, if you want them done in a timely, professional and even discreet manner, then you want the BEST people.

The best hosts know THE BEST people. They know which security guard is going to watch your table like a guard dog, what runners keep the ice stocked all night without fail and which hostess is going to show you the time of your life.

The hosts know the right people. They have information and information in Vegas, as in many walks of life, is a commodity.

There is a price for it.

                      2. Why is it so dang expensive to go to a tier 1 club.

Tier 1 clubs? Really…...the women, music, dancing and booze and potential for a sinfully good time?

Sex, alcohol and premium entertainment usually aren’t cheap and Tier 1 clubs have all of these things and more.

You are competing with a number of groups and individuals that have the resources to buy the services of the club. Some of these people are particularly wealthy and will pay a premium for it. As long as enough people are willing to pay for it at the current market value, the price will remain constant or even increase until the consumer is no longer is willing to pay at said price.

Supply and Demand pal. And if you have been to Vegas lately, you will realize one thing:

It is very much in demand.

                      3. I seem to do well money-wise, but 1-2k at a club at night... Am I not seeing the connection?

So you do well money wise. Okay. Good for you. Then this either isn’t an issue for you or you may be frugal and want to save your hard earned cash. Perfectly reasonable.

What I can’t understand then is why you are interested in visiting a Vegas nightclub in the first place.
                      Yes, YOU WILL SPEND MONEY.

There are myriad of people (guards, hosts, waitresses, runners, DJ’s, bartenders) who are working behind the scenes to keep that machine going.

They have rent to pay. Deal.

You can enjoy al lot of things in Vegas without splurging like a tycoon. There are plenty of hotel bars and lounges where you can have good, cheap, clean fun. There are even some clubs where you can get a table for a low cost or you could simply do what thousands of other people do and just get on the guest list and wait like everybody else.

But if you want no lines, red ropes parted, champagne, the best of the best of …..women, booze and comfort….if you want WHAT HAPPENS IN VEGAS STAYS IN VEGAS type fun….then table service in a Tier 1 club is a logical option.

Don’t worry, if you don’t splurge for it there are another hundred people waiting in line to take your place.

Also, after waiting in line for so long, you have to pay cover which adds another $30+.. Bottle service is definitely not for everyone. I only do it when I'm with a large (mixed) group and we don't want to go through the hassle of getting everyone in. You can get to the clubs early or just get on guest lists and usually get in without a problem if ur just wanting to check it out & have a drink or two.
