  • How much to tip?

We're from Australia so we don't tip and quickly trying to learn.
There are 4 of us guys and wondering on
A Thursday night to get into Tao how much of a tip should we give? Or are we better to make that night our bottle service night?

  • #2
Hello mate, judging by some of the trip reports posted by Austrialian's on here you'd have the most fun with bottle service.

With regard to tipping hosts to get into clubs it depends on the night. Thursday's in Tao are pretty massive so I'd guess about $50 each, but some of the more experience people on here may be able to give a better indication.

If you're just trying to get INTO Tao and you don't want to do bottle service, consider the following scenarios:

Start by texting Bob Shindelar or Donnie Eversole - you can find Bob's info on the front page, and Donnie's all over the forums:

        1. You want them to walk you past the line, but you still pay your own cover: Tip $40 per man.
        2. You want them to walk you past the line and waive your cover: Tip $75 per man.

If you want to get bottle service, these will be your costs on a Thursday:

        1. Bottles are $375, and you probably need to do 2 bottles if you want a decent inside table.
        2. 8% sales tax
        3. Automatic 20% gratuity to your server
        4. $150-$200 gratuity to your host or the guy that walks you in (in either case, make sure you mention that the host you dealt with should get a piece of it too)
        5. $20 gratuity to your busboy/table runner
        6. $20 gratuity to your security guard by the table

$100-200 tip for the host that walks you in AFTER you've already bought bottle service? Really?

If I have a great host that hangs out around us most the night, brings non bottle whore girls to our table and is generally enjoyable to be around, then maybe. But that much just for walking me past a line to my table, no way.

To each their own. Personally, I try to gauge the personality of the host that walks me in. In my experience, it's almost always someone different than the host you book it with.

If the host you book the table service with is the same host that walks you in (has happened for me with people I've developed trust or have known for a long time), I would definitely make sure they are compensated - one way or another.

Yes - usually $100 per bottle to the host.

Whether that's the guy you booked with or the guy that walks you in, that will change all the time. If you don't see the guy that you worked with the whole time, I would give the $100 to the guy that walks me in and tell him to make sure my actual host gets taken care of.

I would recommend using the hosts on the main page of JackColton.com. All of those guys are the right contacts and will take care of you the right way.

When you meet them (or whoever will be seating you) outside the club, slip them a generous handshake and mention that you'd like the best table they can do for you considering what you plan to order. Money talks!

No, I'd do it exactly like that, with emphasis on excitement and confusion.
