  • Need advice from JC'ers on best hotels

I need advice on which hotel I should book from the ones below (me and a buddy going for a birthday). I'm looking for the best mix of: value, atmosphere/crowd, casino (table games), and clubs on property (not that important to us since we don't need to be staying where we club). Our trip is Friday 4/8 - Monday 4/11. Any tips would be greatly appreciated...and if anybody knows where I can get a better deal than what I've already found
    • MGM - $570
    • Mirage - $667
    • Mandalay Bay - $633
    • Vdara - $623
    • Palms - $451
    • Hard Rock - $665

These are the totals based on a 3 night stay. Right now leaning towards Palms or Vdara. Would also be interested in Cosmopolitan, Bellagio, Wynn/Encore, or Venetian/Palazzo...if they can be done for about $700 or less. Thanks for the help!
    Nothing interesting to add here...

ChuckMoney shared a link for Venetian/Palazzo deals, it says must be booked by 2/16, but you could give it a try. Here's the link to that thread: http://forums.jackcolton.com/showthread.php?t=6498.

      MGM - $570
I find that a lot of Canadians love this property. I wouldn't stay at the MGM if you're looking for a younger crowd. Studio 54 is pretty dead and the hotel bars aren't poppin' with after party crowds. Nice accommodations but the rooms could use a furniture update. The comforters are pretty nice.

      Mirage - $667

Not really sure to be honest. Jet's alright, but I wouldn't count it in my top five clubs. I always notice a lot of kids on this property. I think the zoo/animal sanctuary appeals to the "Bring The Kids To Vegas" crowd. Easy access to strip proper.

      Mandalay Bay - $633
Not sure the crowd, it's past the south end of the strip and makes a walk on the strip and so forth much harder than popping downstairs. Mixx gets great reviews. I hear the rooms are very luxurious but there are not any clubs of note on the property.

      Vdara - $623
I don't think anyone really has any opinion on this one, at least on the boards. No clubs, but is on the south end of the strip within City Center. Easy access between City Center properties and nearby locations (Aria, Bellagio, Monte Carlo). Completely non-smoking if I remember. Newer hotel so the rooms should be very plush.

      Palms - $451
Definite younger crowd, hosts: Rain, Moon and Playboy club. Decent rooms (I like the showers) but being far off strip makes weekend nights difficult if you leave late for a club on the strip (cabs lines were ridiculous). Younger crowd but like the Hard Rock, it can be douchey at times. Beds pretty meh.

      Hard Rock - $665
Definite younger crowd, hosts: Vanity and Circle Bar. Off strip, but closer than Palms. Younger crowd but like Palms can kinda be douchey at times. So far, my favorite beds in Vegas. The comforters are heavenly.

      Hope that helps somehow.

If you plan to gamble a decent amount, which I'm assuming you do since the tables are important to you, contact a casino host at your preferred hotels. They will likely give you the casino rate to start with, which is cheaper than rack rate, and then they'll adjust your comps while you're on property based on your play.

I don't gamble, so I can't offer an opinion on the tables.

I've been to Vdara and I can say that the rooms are pretty fucken sweet and the location is prime, so I'd go with that if given the choice.

HRH definitely has the best crowd imo though.

Just an FYI, Vdara does not have a casino (correct me if I am wrong). However, Aria is literally right next door, and the table games at Aria are nicely done, and the drink service is great while playing.

Stay away from Mandalay. Rooms are nice, but there is not much nightlife, and the casino floor is dead compared to other casinos (eerily quiet all the time). Plus its defintely a cab ride to the nice clubs (i.e. XS, Tryst). Hard Rock and Palms don't have large pits for table games, so if you are going to gamble a ton, you may want to look elsewhere.

Check Southwest and Jet Blue (not sure if they fly to WA off the top of my head) for flight + hotel packages.

If you're looking for the right balance of party/club casinos and good places to gamble then pick a spot central of the strip. Vdara would suit your needs given the location and being new have nicer rooms. Aria is a good place to gamble and if your looking to club you'll just hop a cab anyways. I think if you can find a good rate at the Venetian then book it great location bars and club and the gambling is plentiful. The palms and HRH are def. party places but the crowd can get annoying and are off the strip. You'll notice how annoying it can be having to cab it everywhere to get central on the strip.

I'm in vegas 02/23-02/26 and got a helluva deal on southwest for flight and room. They actually have a special vacation page dedicated to Vegas offers. Worht a look IMHO.

Just wondering where are you looking for these rates? I found Mandalay for like $480 for your dates, although I'm not sure which hotel you're leaning towards. Or are the prices you have including resort fees? For MGM properties, you want to look at the member deals they have at www.mycheapvegas.com, that's where the best deals are. I believe there's a lot of promos with blackout dates during your times as well though.

Yeah I found the palms for $275 total for 4/8-4/11 on expedia, not sure what the price is now but that or southwest.com had the best deals I found!

Well, I can't remember which thread I saw the link to mycheapvegas.com but it was a great idea. I have found and booked a couple weekends from there already. But I suppose if anybody finds something better, I'm all ears! ha Oh, and unfortunately Southwest doesn't service my city in WA, so they're out
