Hello everybody. I didn't think I would be making it out to vegas again this soon, but when they said the national conference for my grad school was being held in vegas, me and my friends are jumping on it. We're scrambling to find cheap rooms, on the strip or just off it if possible for the weekend of january 13th-16th. I would love to hear any info anybody has out there. Is vegas a little cheaper in the cooler months as far as hotels go?

Don't go with the luxor and don't go with tropicana lol. The location is terrible. And please don't book with expedia, you'll only get ripped off. Book off one of those deals sites.
Right now there's a 30% off special for Harrahs properties. If you want something nice, go with Caesars, something for Partying, go with Planet Hollywood, something nice, go with Paris, something cheap, go with Harrahs or Flamingo. All are good properties with excellent locations.
I use http://www.mycheapvegas.com for my bookings. Have fun!

it looks like imperial palace has some great rates for that time. I know this is a "cheaper" hotel and I'm not expecting anything great, but just how much of a dump is this place? We're only going to really be there to sleep and change clothes. Thanks for the responses!June 2010-Bachelor Party

If you are going to sleep a few hrs, shower, and change it doesn't matter where you get a room.Originally posted by Tyler12army View Postit looks like imperial palace has some great rates for that time. Here's a look at how bad the imperial palace is lol. Plus I don't think the Trop has that bad of a location it's a short cab ride from the major clubs close to an In N Out and it could be worse you could be at the Stratosphere.Originally posted by Tyler12army View Postit looks like imperial palace has some great rates for that time. How is the flamingo? I see they have some cheap rates and it is right on a good part of the strip as well... The IP does seem a little too sketchy for my liking! Any thoughts on hard rock, I saw the average rate would be about 90 a night during my time in vegas, is that too much for that hotel?June 2010-Bachelor Party

The Flamingo doesn't seem bad at all, it depends on what you're looking for really. It depends on your budget too, if $90 a night is comfortable for you the Hard Rock would be my choice. It is a little off the strip but it's full of young people and a fun place to be in or out of the room.Originally posted by Tyler12army View PostHow is the flamingo? Sandwich a $20 or more between your I.D. and Credit Card then hand it to the desk person. If they take it they'll magically find an upgrade for you like a room with a great view or a suite if you get extra lucky. If they don't take it they'll hand the cash back and pretend you made a mistake.Originally posted by Tyler12army View Postwhat's the 20 dollar trick?

Sometimes a $20 doesn't work. I would try $40 or even $50 for it to work, depending on how busy the hotel is. I did it at the HRH, but I sandwiched $60 because I knew they were sold out, got upgraded from a basic room that I got as Twitter Tuesday special to a HRH Suite with an awesome view of the strip.

Okay so when you're doing the sandwich routine is there anything you need to say when you're doing this, or is it just one of those understood practices in vegas that if a nice tip is administered, you will be comped to a much better room? Has anybody ever had there money taken and not been upgraded?June 2010-Bachelor Party

So when you give them the sandwich, just ask" Do you have any complementary upgrades at this time?" Whenever I do it, I usually mention the specific room I would like, and also add on "This is my first time staying at your hotel, and I hope you can make it my best experience ever." If the money is taken, you will be upgraded no matter what, it may not be a significant upgrade...like same room with better view, but you will get one.
