  • My take on vegas clubs/nightlife compared with south beach

A late trip report but better sooner than later. After reading through these boards prior to my trip I had a good idea of what to expect. Prior to my trip I have read how great Vegas clubs were and that the parties are the wildest there. I had my skepticism since I live in Miami and South Beach is also a nightlife mecca. Have also enjoyed the nightlife in NYC as well.

The best way to sum up Vegas clubs is "generic and commercial". Not that Vegas clubs are bad but a formula that is present in Miami and NYC is not in Vegas. Clubs in Vegas is all about squeezing as many people in as possible, charging cover to just about everyone, and of course selling as many tables as possible. This of course translates to a very mixed crowd. You have gorgeous girls and ugly girls all mixed in. The club will let everyone in regardless; only discretion they have is how long people wait, but in the end everyone gets in. The clubs are not exclusive or upscale at all and I had no issues getting into clubs whatsoever (mind you, I was not with girls but with 2 other guys). A good tip is to dress nicely, feel what goes a long way is dressing nicely and sets you apart from the crowd. See many people that just didn't dress the part and unfortunately had to wait.

While in vegas was able to go to the following clubs: XS, Vanity, Bank, Tao, Lavo, ghostbar, rain, playboy club, moon, Gold lounge, Eve, LAX, Surrender. All were extremely nicely decorated and designed. Crowd was pretty much the same across. A slight edge to XS and Surrender. Music was generic as well (Top40 with emphasis on hip-hop). Went to Vanity on their house night and was nothing special and very empty inside.

For me personally, the Vegas clubs did not live up to my expectations. Maybe it was the weekend I went (July 4th) or I'm spoiled with Miami nightlife. My advice especially someone coming from a major city with abundant nightlife such as NYC/Miami/Chicago is do not have super high expectations. Tables are very expensive (roughly double standard prices in Miami) and bar drinks were the same ($15/drink average). Get a table only if you have a nice group to go with prior (meet girls during the day), would skip the table if you're all guys. Will get very expensive and you may be placed in a less than desirable spot (nothing worse than having a bad table after spending lots of money). As far as getting in, my advice is to approach the doorman with confidence. Make it clear you don;t want to wait in line. If he wants a tip; he'll let you know. Or say something along the lines of "i'll take care of you if u can comp my group". All the doorman have comps to give out and everyone that works at the club shares tips. They would much rather have your cash tip than get no tip and you pay the cover which most likely goes to the hotel or club management company.

All in all I had a great time, just different from the nightlife I am used to. Know my trip report doesn't scream amazing but feel honest reviews of experiences in vegas is what makes this board great.

^this is maybe the most incendiary part, and i'm not sure i wholly disagree.

    interesting take either way.

interesting read. i had a great time at all the Palms' clubs. but I do have to agree with you... there is something special about Miami's club life. Maybe it's because I went for WMC this year (UMF as well as a few of the clubbing events on the nights prior) and it was probably the most amazing time of my life.

If having snookie j-wow and the grenades that Roni, the situation and pauly d score is any indication of the level of hot chicks in Miami then you can have em. Hahahaahah.

It has been a few years since I have done the clubbing thing in Miami, went to alot of hot clubs maybe it was the weekend (holloween) I don't know but I was not impressed.

I have seen some gorgeous women in miami but not the concentrated amount like you do in Vegas. Ladies from all over the world, smokin hot girls from Canada, so-cal, even Kansas and Oregon! Haha, every place on the strip is like it's own acropolis of entertainment, food , nightlife and energy.

I think you went as mentioned with ultra high expectations and were let down, this probably caused you and your boys some disappointed and it probably showed all over your faces while you guys were giving off negative energy which most people don't want to be around anyway.

          Better luck next time

I asked Nassau recently which he thought was better, Miami or Vegas. He's well suited to answer either because he visits both frequently enough to have an informed opinion. While it seems Miami wins in some categories, overall the feeling was that Vegas was the better spot for partying.

I think when UMF is going on , that week will have a vegas like party feel to the town. I can't wait to invade with the rest of my J.C.AODers.

Well now i have to put in a girls point of view...lol
first let me say that i am bi so i can also give my opion on "hot" girls.... I went to miami last summer (mansion) and vegas this summer (pure) and i must say vegas wins but then on any given night one club can be off the chain and the following weekend you wonder "what the hell" as for as music i have not heard a dj mix like that in a long time!!! I was very impressed and i dont say that often!!! When i was a mansion last summer one night i even put my head cause the music was sooo aweful!!! One night the dj did play some techno (kinda trancy) not really my style but no mixing at all!!!! I think he just stuck a cd in lol!!! But miami does have a nice beach and some kick ass shopping!!!!!!!! I love miami's fashion!!!!!! Both vegas and miami have hot guys and girls!!!! Nightlife i have to say vegas but like i said maybe pure's dj was just shining that night and masion was having an off night???? But i have to agree vegas is more about money but hell its all about casino wich is all about winning and losing money!

Everyone's got different nightlife tastes. Partied in NYC, LA, and Vegas... each are different, but enjoy them all.

Hey guys I will be in Miami in June and was hoping you could advise where I could go out clubbing....I went Vegas last year and enjoyed places like XS, Taio, Tryst which played top 40 tunes, focus on hip hop and dance.....

I will be there on a Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday night.,

If you can advise of clubs by night that would be awesome

So far I have heard the good ones are Liv, Space, BED, Klutch, Mansion, W hotel club (cant remember name!)

Thanks in advance for your help!

                      NICE read!

BUT My thoughts... Vegas spends double and some time triple on their clubs.. with talent and construction. SO inorder to keep the bills paid.. we have to let in son grenades.. tools.. and DBags cuz they have money too.. when a club has 100 employees + working union wages.. its a ton of overhead to deal with. and now your payin 30,000 and up for a DJ? that where the tables and cover come in to help level things out.. its all business out here.. and once you understand it.. (and arent biased to where you live) its cool.. Go to the clubs which have events.. Surrender and XS share Calvin Harris Afrojack and a couple other DJs as their residents... HAZE TAO and Tryst also great places.. all mainly house music... so when you say top 40... that puzzles me.. I am in these clubs 7 nights a week with my job.. and they have sections of the night where they play the radio stuff.. but usually they go back to house...

Have a good one! THX for reading

                        Weird post...

I went to south beach... Vegas is better! Hands down... Look at the top clubs list... It's ruled by Vegas clubs. Yes, it's expensive there, but have you ever heard of supply and demand? You can have anything you want there... You want the dance floor table at XS? Pay for it! If you can't afford it oh well, you're sitting by the pool. You can't take that personal, that's just business.. Also, Vegas has better women! You can meet anyone you want there. This is not the case in south beach. In Vegas meeting new people is expected. It's a given. Yes there's grenades there.. Oh well. But theres always another girl or group of girls and they're on vacation, they're all dressed up, they've been pregaming before coming etc.. Vegas is the spot right now. Just admit it.

Don't even get me started with summer and the pool scene!

Or the resident DJ's: Afrojack, kaskade, tiesto, and morillo.......

Well, I've never partied in Miami. I love your take on the differences. Always good to know.

I live in Utah. Vegas is all I have and I love it.

                            Nice thread!!

Other than Vegas i partied at LA/Denver/Chicago/NYC/Atlanta and i gotta say Vegas on another level. First of all Vegas is cosmopolitan, you get to party with people from all over the world (literally). Construction of the clubs, service you are receiving at the clubs on another level. And you got many selections within close approximation. And people just more wild in Vegas. And yes you might get sizzling hot/hot/good/maybe/hell no! crowd in Vegas clubs due to that town runs on money, so if you have money to blow you'll get the service.

And I do agree with the fact that you will be spending more money at Vegas clubs but this is due to supply and demand function. Comparing to other major towns in U.S. Vegas gets way more nightlife focused tourism.

Now i gotta say this i never been to south beach and this April i will be there for 4 nights. So i will be checking out the nightlife scene in South Beach. So far I heard mainly good things and once I get back i will include my comparison here.

Let me take a crack at this...
Everyone always wondered why Prive never had an actual "line" at Planet Hollywood. Simply put, in Miami, it's More important to have the "right" crowd than having "a" crowd. If there's a line, that'd mean the first person would get in. That's not Miami. The clubs in Miami might let fewer people in, but, if it's the right people, they're ok with that.
I've spent time in night clubs in both cities and Vegas suits me better, but it's different. The clubs in Vegas are beautiful and spacious and I live them. Mansion in Miami, for example, isn't pretty or roomy, but they make up for it.
