p Review

We didn’t think we could leave the new baby girl so soon, but dad needed a vacation so we sent the three rugrats to Grandma’s and it was back to LV. Here is last year’s review if you’re interested http://forums.jackcolton.com/showthread.php?t=1059

Note: It occurred to me that the help could just be fed up with rude or indifferent patrons themselves. So I made a point to say please and thank you to everyone, and in turn we received great service with a smile from the hotel check-in to the cab drivers to the doormen at the clubs or The Joint. So next time you go, think about it!

Planet Hollywood


Flew in at 4pm and were checked in by 5:30; went quickly and smooth. We had a Hollywood Hip Fountain View room themed with Titanic movie stuff. The room was a little small, but how much space do you need? Still had Aladdin bathroom fixtures. Actually the remodeled rooms at TI were nicer, but no complaints.

p.s. if you look at the concrete barriers across the street from us, you can see where someone got stabbed Saturday evening!!


PH Food
Planet Dailies was good for breakfasts, but damn it I’d like to find a decent quality breakfast on the strip for less than $40 already!

Pinks was OK; honestly whatever hype it once had has turned into salty fast food like everything else. L

Yolo’s had mixed reviews on Yelp; We ate there Saturday night and thought the salsa was really good, not hot but sweet, and the mahi-mahi tacos were good as well. Plus, $33 for dinner was cheaper than breakfast!

PH Pool
The pool gets a mixed review. The pool deck area is too wide open with nothing but chairs and should get more in the way of awesome for it. The north pool is 18+ only, but there were many young adults in either pool both Friday and Saturday. Probably 7-8 cabanas on each side.

The bikini contest is 4pm on Saturday and was fun to watch. My wife said she’d enter before we left home, but changed her mind. Winner got $500. She was hot stuff and all, but basically she brought the most cheering friends with her. It's held at the north pool; during the contest it was very crowded. Once it ended most people left and the crowd shrunk. It's a good pool for relaxing I'd say. Sarah got some kind of drink that was all sugar but almost no alcohol.

Friday and Saturday nights are advertised as having some kind of partying on the pool deck, but they called them off our weekend for some reason. So this remains a mystery to me...

Other Entertainment

Tao Restaurant, Thursday 8:15 reservations.
Our waitress Cindy was very nice and gave thorough answers to our questions. Appetizers were an asparagus tempura (very good) and a tuna roll (mushy), with stir-fried salmon for her (very good) and grilled tuna for me (ok but not great). The oolong tea was great though. We asked for a line pass stamp for the nightclub as we paid the bill ($90ish + tip).

At 10pm we returned to see the line around the far corner, but not too bad. I asked the doorman to please direct us where to go with our stamps, he brought us to a partitioned section on the right side of the entrance where we were let right in with no cover. Upstairs we went and to the right, got some drinks, and kinda waited for the place to fill up before dancing the night away. One of the bouncer dudes was collecting girls to dance on the “stage” with the go-go dancers and almost asked my wife to go, until he noticed she was with a guy (me) and moved on.

Now, I’m a man organization and I appreciate Tao keeping a tight ship. I know my friends at JC are avid club-goers so I hope you don’t get me wrong… we had a great time, danced a lot, and enjoyed the company of everyone there. At the same time, shoot, everything’s roped off, bouncers everywhere giving high levels of direction and looking all tough stuff... it gave the impression of dare I say of pretentiousness which I found to be a bit silly for the kind of place that frankly should be for cutting loose. Two bathroom attendants for the men's room? C'mon!

Friday
We ate lunch once again at Mon Ami Gabi. Nice romantic place. We both had a seafood crepe and a bowl of soup which was excellent. $40.

Cabbed it to Hard Rock for The Offspring concert (old fav of mine) in The Joint, but ate at Joe’s NY pizza across the street first. More junk food, but $11 for two slices and a water can’t be beat.

But that didn’t make me more excited than I was about to see The Offspring!

The concert was awesome. They opened with “You’re Gonna Go Far, Kid” and ended with “The Kids Aren’t Allright”. There was a moderate sized circle pit going the whole show which alarmed the girl-next-door demeanor of my wife. I don’t know what else to say, it was great and I might even go see them again at Summerfest next week.



Wasted Space afterwards was a lot of fun. I grabbed some promo tickets on the way out of the concert which got Sarah in for free and me for $5. No wait though there was a line forming right behind us. Sure they did play some hip hop, which I don’t like, but there was also lots of rock which you can guess is what gets me going. Plus the go-go dancer could shake her butt like no one in there will ever forget. Thank you for the memories, rump-shaker. We danced the whole time and at some times were the only ones doing so. BTW My wife’s drinks were pretty damn stiff, she said.

Saturday we took it easy, shopped, lounged at the pool, watched the fountains, and turned in early to wake up at 4:30am to go home. Not much to tell so I'll leave you with these last pics
