  • MGM Regular Pool

I've been lurking for a while and decided to come out of hiding! We will be in Vegas over Memorial Day Weekend staying at MGM. We were thinking of renting a cabana at the regular pool on Friday and doing our own party instead of paying/waiting in line for Wet Republic. Anybody know how the regular pool scene is at MGM? Will there still be music, lots of people hanging by the pool, etc? Any insight would be helpful, thanks!

I'm also staying there over MDW... and most of the guys in my group don't feel like paying or waiting to get into Wet. I never thought of getting a cabana. I stayed there about 3 years ago and liked the pool there... it's a big pool area with a few different pools if I remember right. I have heard on the weekends / holiday weekends they do have a DJ / music at the regular pool, we'll see. I feel like there's going to be spill over from wet and there will be lots of people partying at the regular pool... since it's such a big weekend.

Here's an idea... I would book the cabana at the regular pool on saturday... that way you can check out the vibe on friday.

Thanks Kimball, great idea! We got a really good deal on the Cabana cuz they quoted us the regular season price and we spoke with a manager when they tried to give us the holiday price and was guaranteed the regular price. They suggested we get by the lazy river as it's closest to Wet Republic and we would still be able to hear the DJ I guess. Just wanted to make sure it's still a fun vibe at the pool. There is a bunch of us and we have 2 cabanas reserved for the whole day and we can get pretty rowdy on our own so we thought it'd be best to use the money more wisely and at least have somewhere to sit/chill with our drinks!

i agree... sounds like you got a good deal on the price... i'm sure you'll have a great time... make your own party. Last summer at the Mirage the regular pool was packed... we grabbed a spot in the water on the edge of the pool... had a waitress bringing us drinks... it was perfect.

I hear there is a lazy river that is often referred to as "Dude Soup", since there are nothing but guys in said river.

But I can neither confirm nor deny the existence of said lazy river.

I would suggest sucking it up and paying to go to wet. It is well worth it. Then figure out how to save some cash at night or not eating big dinners. The pool rocks and won't disappoint!

I'm going to contact the host and offer to pay a few hundred dollars for me and two others... but I've reached a point in my life where I no longer want to wait in the line. It's not about saving money... it's more avoiding hassle.

I'm the same way with the waiting. I can't see how people wait in line for hours to get into anything! But hey, whatever floats ur boat I guess, to each his own. We are considering Wet Republic as well but we wanted to at least have the option of the cabana without the thousand dollar pricetag.

While I hear wat your saying the truth is one of the best things about Vegas is partying with absolute strangers who are all in the same mind frame and wet is one of the best places to do this, if u get a cabana at the regular pool near to wet then it's only going to rub it in on what your missing out on, you wouldn't hang around outside the club just because you can hear the music cause it's about the atmosphere, the people, your surroundings.
My advice would be get there early, get a good contact, grease a doorman, find girls to get in with do watever it takes just make sure your there and once you are one things for sure you won't regret it.
On a side note i assume your staying at the MGM, so why not ask about the prima card on check in, we were there recently and it got us into wet for free, obviously ask cause with it being a big weekend they might not let u do it but we used loads.

The big pool in MGM is not bad. The farther you are away from Wet, the more families are with their kids. Also the chairs next to the fence of Wet require reservations. I don't believe there are any cabanas in that location.

What's up everyone... I am also staying at MGM over MDW and am planning on checking out Wet Republic (they have a killer DJ lineup) I pre-bought tickets for the days I want to go but I hear you still need to line up and be there before a certain time.

Since I am going a few days in a row I am hoping to make friends ($$$) with one of the door guys that will let me slip past the line. I agree with you guys, life is too short to wait two hours in line so I'll be trying as hard as I can to avoid it. Speaking of which is it tricky to get to the Wet Republic entrance from inside the hotel?

Finally, does anyone know any details about Benny Benassi @ Liquid on Sunday the 30th? I'd really like to check that out but the only place I see it mentioned is on his myspace page.

We're thinking the same thing, WET will be crazy that weekend though would like to think some sort of priority will be given to MGM Guests...

As I understand it, you only get priority being an MGM guest if you upgrade to the Prima account, but even then being it's a holiday/fight weekend, you still may not get priority. Somebody else can verify this but that is the info I got from calling the hotel.
