  • Any suggestions for NYC & SD?

    Hi fellow Vegas lunatics,

Got my US trip approaching (5 weeks to go!), visiting NYC for 4 nights, San Diego for 5 nights, Vegas for 5 nights. Pretty clued up on Vegas but would appreciate any suggestions/recommendations on things to do, decent bars, clubs, restuarants etc in NYC & SD?

Can't wait to get going but bit pissed with the timing of it! Missing the May Invasion by a couple of weeks and my NYC to SD flight has been re-scheduled 3 hours later than expected so i'm mid fuckin flight while Mayweather and Mosley are going at it! Uh well, couldn't do much about it, had to books flights well in advance to get decent prices as flying from UK. Gonna be an epic trip anyway!! :-)

With NYC it's a little cumbersome to suggest places. There are def individual places I could personally say are great, but my best advice would be to check out general areas of Manhattan.

Ok cheers man. What are these places you think are great though? lol

Also, I'm thinking of changing my internal flight so I dont miss the boxing. Last time I looked it was gonna cost me about $170. At the moment we're due to land in SD at about 8.50pm, would have thought the fight will start between 8-9pm so thats too late.

If I change it, any recommended places to watch the fight?

My best advice is to look at places on Yelp:

        http://www.yelp.com/search?find_desc...mposite_rating

Areas to check out: Meatpacking District, Chelsea, SoHo, Murray Hill, Lower East Side.

Agreed on the areas of Manhattan to check out. I can recommend some places if I know your tastes. Hit me up and I can even hook you up with a promoter I used to use.

I dunno, I'd be tempted to look into Brooklyn for a night. It's really starting to take off. But, is it only a hipster area?

yeah downtown BKNY (inclusding carrol gardens, dumbo, park slope, sunset park etc.) is pretty much hipster, and its pretty much all brooklynites as it is a pain in the ass to get to by public transportation

                Thanks lads.

Sounds like most is going on at Soho, Little Italy, Lower East Side, Lower Manhatton and Meatpacking District. I'll check out Kelp for info.

Got a couple of meals arranged in NY, 1 at Trattoria Trecolori and 1 at Del Friscos. Both have decent reviews from TripAdviser, anyone ate at these? Any good?

At the moment looking for a decent lounge bar to go on the Friday night, grab some food and spend the evening drinking. Somewhere modern, 20-30's crowd, casual/smart, dance/house music...any recommendations?

Take a look at premierlistnyc.com...He has great venues from a cruise around Manhattan, megaclubs (Pacha), and a few smaller places going on. You should find something on that site and being on his guestlist gets you in real quick even with 2-3 guys.

I like your choice for Italian. As for your steakhouse choice, eh. It's on the pricey side with average quality. If you don't mind taking a trip to Brooklyn, then Peter Lugers is awesome and a tad more pricey but far superior quality. A hidden gem is Angelo Maxie's. Plus there are a few awesome places to go to around there. Under Bar and Coffee Shop (loungey with a very pretty crowd). I hope this helps a bit.

If you want to try some of the fancier restaurants on a budget, some of them have prix fixe options. And they don't always give you the menu for it unless you ask for it, cause they would rather you order their full price options. So you need to know which restaurants have it in advance.
You should be able to see some of the restaurants that offer prix fixe on the time out website.

Besides the areas already mentioned, I really like Greenwich Village. It's close to the University.

Not sure if you watch Letterman, but I love his show, so it was a big deal for me to meet the guys that appear on his show.. like at the deli..

My bar suggestion to you, since you are looking for 20-30s, modern, would be any of the lounges in an Ian Schrager hotel.

Have fun, sounds like you have an awesome trip planned.
the City has a vibe you won't find anywhere else!

Cool - I'll update here or message u

One other thing, can anyone recommend the best pay as you go / pre-paid sim card and network to get to use while there. I've had enough of being stung by my network for overseas calls/texts so gonna get a US one and use that.

Had a nightmare using AT&T in vegas before! Whats the best network to get and best place to pick 'em up?

I just saw this post, when you come down to Diego hit me up! We'll grab a drink or two! And you'll be in town for Cinco De Mayo!!! There will be some good places to party at.

                              Where are you staying at?
