Wow, just WOW. I have never felt the urge to post until now. I've been lurking on this forum for years. (I know this is sad, but meh). It's been so long my original account got deactivated lol. I've been going to Vegas for 7 years, bottle service for 6. In regards to the OP, I have dealt with PF, and he was ok. Nothing special, I've never mentioned that I perused JC.com. We got a stripper pole table with 4 guys, myself included. He didnt ask for a Tip or handshake up front, but did ask that we do 3 bottles for 4 guys, which is insane, especially for the spot we were getting. I worked him down to 2 bottles for 4, but he wanted to charge us $100 per person reservation cost. I'm no idiot, obviously this was him asking for a tip, and nobody charges a table fee. I dont go Tryst very often, as I love the service I get at Tao, and usually do Dance floor tables, most recently doing 2k mins. Which is equivalent to 4 or 5 bottles. This was before XS was open and tryst was always packed. I would have said screw it, but the newbie in our group wanted to go badly so there we were. I texted him a couple weeks in advance, and it wasnt a busy weekend. He met with us up front handed us off right away, Jr walked us to the table. Done and Done. Never saw him again, left him with $200, (he didnt comment on it, so I didnt say anything either, and Jr with $100 for the stroll. I usually like to tip in advance and at the end of the night depending on the service, obviously he wasnt getting the 2nd one, (usually another $100) cause i never saw him again. Now what really made me want to post is the negative comments directed to the OP. He has the right to his opinion, but this is a forum, where everone is welcome, telling him to leave or you dont belong here, whether it was done politely or not, is rude and very cliqish. I hope i'm not treated the same way. This is his business, and we are his clients. Everyone does NOT get treated the same way, its just the way it is. Yes tipping does help, but making requests in regards to their tip even before meeting is not good business practise, and a little insulting. What I dont think anyone mentioned is that, the OP got the exact same table with a different host without the $500 handshake. I continue to go to XS and Tryst but with different hosts, mostly because he is too busy to take care of anyone properly and I prefer to work with a Junior becasue they have less clients. If im throwing down the money to get the dance floor table, it doesnt matter who my host is. I liked the stripper pole table, but I have gotten any table I have requested. Please note - we do tend to spend quite a bit at the clubs, usually average a bottle per person.

I think that we are very welcoming here, but when your FIRST post is something rude and then attacking members, of course we're going to stick with people who have been around longer. Can we move on now?

And welcome to the forums. Anyone's two cents is welcome.. it's just appreciated in a form that doesn't include calling someone a d-bag.

Coming from a country where there is no expectation or requirement to tip, there still is some tipping. I will not eat dinner without leave 10% and thats what I stick to.

So coming from an aussie where it dont matter if u tip or not I would atleast give $200 for a 2k Bill. I see 5% as an insult.

                  So much hostility here

I guess I'll chip in my two cents.

                  1. In the big picture of things, I do personally believe hosts are over-tipped in Vegas.

                  2. However, when in Rome... if you do not like it, you do not have to participate. There are a zillion other things to do in Vegas. It is almost like complaining about prices at top rated restaurants. You decided to go there--the restaurant didn't come to you.

Recently though, I have changed my tipping habits. I was the usual 15-20% person. I was always compliant to this rule. You know, social compliance.

But lately now, my tips vary. I give more to people that gave me good service, and less to that don't. I think it is only fair, and it encourages hard working people to work harder, and lazy people to do the same... or get completely discouraged and find new line of work; obviously they do not cut the mustard in the service industry.

Anyway, that is my humble 2 cent opinion. At end of the day, tip is at the payer's discretion. Having said that, you need to respect the people in the service industry. If you think the pricing is unfair, take your business elsewhere and call it a day. I don't think it is nice to come out here and call names to anyone.. and it is a very cowardly act.

My total bill that night was just a bit over 2700 with taxes. I left exactly 3200 which was about 20% because gratuity was not included. That was a 500 tip to the waitress. So all of you think i should have gave Patrick 500 and then the waitress 500.

Im not about to tip someone $500 that walks me in. And the whole point of this thread was about him actually asking me for "handshake" up front like that. No other vegas host has ever asked me for such a ridiculous tip or even asked me for one in general.

I would love to know the gratuity breakdown goes. Does is all go to the waitress. I believe it would be split with the host, waitress and busboy.

Feels like you gotta be like Henry Hill (Ray Liotta) in Goodfellas if you wanna have a good time. Walk around slippin' everyone money.

Same here..... I don't mind living a much bigger tip if someone was wonderful, but if they were terrible I don't feel so inclined leaving 15% depending on how terrible they were.

noone said you had to give or should have given pf $500, he requested that and you took a different path. I would suggest that you post the info for the host that you used so people that would like to get a table and tip the host a minimal amount may have that option in the future.

Patrick is not the only host that does this. I know several host (at different clubs) that do this. How or when they decide to take this approach I don't know. I usually only hear of it happening when it involves a premium location. It is what it is. To me he helped you out by being upfront about what he was expecting. It gave you the oppertunity to figure something else out and it worked out for you.

I do find some of the comments in this thread regarding over tipping the host humorous condering the OP thought $200 worth of alcohol and a table on the dance floor was worth $2700.

Here he comes to save the daaaaaay , D I was waiting for you to chime in on this.

I really don't know the inside business of being a host but I know one thing, there is ALOT of money in Vegas ALOT. And hot clubs on hot nights with limited premium tables are nit going to be given away cheap. I guess experienced host will not assign premium locations without getting heavily compensated and know most of the time if they give the table away to early for a small tip then usually there's a high rolling party willing to pay big for your table, guess why people have been actually bumped from tables.

I don't know , would I be willing to tip 500 to the host and then 500 to the waitress then 100 on security? Highly doubtful, maybe I just value the dollar to much , If I was to spend 1100 just on tips I would probably opt for treating my party to
a nice dinner followed up with great seats to a cirque show , then just doing a 100 grease to jump the line.

That's me though , think that may be a little more practical in my eyes.

I Hardly post here but this Thread has annyoed me, ive been to vegas 7 or so times and got table service atleast 10 times, if any host told me to pay him $500 to get a table if i was spending 2k already i would tell him to go a get f**ed.

What sort of a wanker straight up asks for a 500 tip without doing anything except walking up to the tables with u. Ive had tables at pure and lax mostly got the tables next to the d floor at pure down below or next to the dj booth at LAX (was next to leborn james last 3rd of july which was sick) and the most i tipped the host was $100 and he was happy with it.

If this guy had told me to pay 500 to get the table i wanted i would be calling his boss and just leting him know whats going on at the vlub he runs.

                                and to nyc2vegas

[QUOTE=nyc2vegas;64671] he probably gets 1000 phone calls a week from people he doesnt know from a hole in the wall to which he responds with the club guidelines which will be 1 bottle per 3 people etc. QUOTE]

Umm isnt that his job to answer phone calls and let people know whats going on? and not flat out ask for HANDSHAKES???
