They have a room for $15 on one of the nights I'm going. Of course that's for a very basic room but you could do a couple nights there and then head somewhere else to get a taste of something far nicer.

I just stayed at Bally's (which granted isn't super great) but was upgraded to a suite.

I had a whirlpool, which I didn't use. A living room set that was barely touched. A TV that i'm not sure if I even turned on. I spent more time at other pools than my own.

I did use:
The shower.
The sink.
The toilet.
The iron.
The ironing board.
The bed to sleep roughly 1-2 hours a night.
Oh, and the lights. I turned them on a few times.

Would I rather stay in a nicer place or suite? Yeah. Do I really need to? Probably not. If you're on a budget IP has beds, bathrooms, and is on the strip. That's about all you need.

Then again, for how much I spend gambling, I should be staying in a lot nicer rooms than I do anyway.

and i'll be harold.. each persons economic considerations are going to differ... if downgrading your hotel means more fun elsewhere, then go for it!

thanks all - I now have a res at IP while I continue looking for a better alternative.

I had considered the Flamingo first. Last time I stayed at Caesars and on my rookie trip for business I got duped into staying at the hotel where the seminar was - Riviera. Yuck.

Now I'm having flashbacks - maybe I should cancel the res at IP.

OK. I've got decent comparable deals at Bally's, Flamingo and Rio. What's the best hotel?

BTW: I like center strip but if Rio is best then I might be willing to stray.

The rooms at the rio are nicely sized too!!! Free shuttle to the strip, nice size rooms! Not bad for rio... But location is a huge selling point for me as far as Ballys and Flamingo go

Thanks for all the responses. I finally settled on Bally's. I had a free night through total rewards so it's still a fantastic deal and still center strip. From what I hear, Bally's is a pretty nice place. I'm sure the rooms are just as nice as the one in the old tower at Caesars that I stayed in last time.

I just stayed there. I have a review up on here. Ask for a complimentary upgrade to a north tower whirlpool suite.

I've had comped rooms before (Caesars) and tipping got me the upgrade...so, tip at check in and worst they can say is no. I don't think it matters whether it is a free trip or paid stay, I've had mixed results with both kinds. It really depends on the check in clerk, their mood, availability at the hotel, etc.
My DH ALWAYS gets upgrades when he checks in alone and goes to a woman...we have gotten multiple suites w/o even handing over cash. So try to go to the opposite sex. I have tried tipping/asking for upgrades and when I had women I didn't have much luck. Oh and it does help to make small talk and if you can drop that its a celebration of some kind, that can help too.

I know TS tipped very handsomely for his room though!
