What's the strategy? How do you do it? What's your wingman stories? I'm all for equality too, so ladies - share your wingwoman stories, too.

And for ladies (or guys) - are you able to see right through the wingman crap? Do you go for it anyway?

I've only occasionally been a wingman for friends, but I've been told I suck at it. (and no, it's not because I can't close deals, though I'm sure we would've arrived at that conclusion, had it gotten that far)

I was out with some friends in Chicago. One guy asked me to be the wingman, 'cause he was too shy to get out there on his own. So I started talking to one of the girls in the group of girls he wanted. It backfired, though - the girl he wanted wasn't interested, and the girl I talked to ended up chasing me for the better part of the night, right until the lights came on around 4am. I had to let her down and told her I had to leave on a flight in about 4 hours. (She was cute ... I think, but I had to get packing and whatever.) So she was crying at the end of the night.

So, with those friends, I'm known as the "guy who makes girls cry".

Anyway, any good wingman stories out there?

It's not about seeing through a wingman's strategy so much as how good the strategy is.

It also depends on how cute the friends is compared to the wingman. If the wingman is cuter than the friend who is into you or your friend, guess which one she's going to be in to more?

Cute guy who is actually talking to me - or shy dude who isn't nearly as attractive.

Wingman is a role that a man may take when he goes to a club or bar with an accompanying male. A wingman is expected to support his friend in approaching women.[1][2]


The men often pick a desired woman, who is referred to as the "target". The man intending to seduce the target is often called the "Pilot". The "Wingman" is expected to back up the pilot, which typically entails talking to the target's less attractive or male friend(s) and making comments that will make the "Pilot" seem more attractive.
The "Wingman" motivates the "Pilot" to be social and practice approaching women. He helps the pilot approach pairs and groups of women without the awkwardness of being alone.[4] He will take the less attractive woman of a pair so that the pilot can engage in conversation with the more attractive without interruption. The target may feel more relaxed talking to the pilot while her obligation of entertaining his or her friend is taken care of by the "Wingman". A group member who disapproves of the "Pilot's" advances may also be prevented from interfering in a way commonly referred to as cockblocking while socially interacting with the wingman.
In certain situations, the "Pilot" will go with his "AW", commonly referred to as Automatic Wingman. He has the most experience in playing the role of wingman.[5] Other responsibilities include remembering details (i.e. target's names aka "the bogey" and personal information) as well as compensating for intoxication in the judgment of the pilot.

Ill play wingman without a problem. For me its actually more fun to play the wingman because i like that situation. Being that im married i feel like i can say whatever i want and it just doesnt matter because what do i care? Ill dance with whatever and when i drink a lot i end up dancing with large women to get my friends laid. Ill handle the grenade, but i wont jump on them if you catch my drift, lol.

I've had the wingwoman approach me a few times & i think its a bit more obvious than the wingman. Maybe its different with a professional wingwoman, but it just kinda seems to me if a wingman comes up and starts chatting to your group he could possibly be interested in talking to you/your friends, when its a wingwoman, you know straight off they're up to something.
