Normal with high cover at the end of the night?

At 3 AM last night I was trying to get into Jet with my friends (4 guys total). There were basically no queue, but we chatted up three girls in the small line. They got in, but we had no luck. We asked the bouncer what was up, and he said it was 40 bucks a head. That sounded way to much for admission when it was only one hour left, so I made it clear to him that we were willing to pay 20 instead. That didn't work, so we left.

Is it really normal to demand such a high cover charge so late in the night? I would have been perfectly fine if it had been 3 hours till they closed. I guess they really didn't want our money, so their loss, we had fun anyway

Yea its fairly normal for the price of cover to go up. Actually it goes up even more on a holiday weekend. The last time I checked Tryst at midnight, it was $100 for the guys and ladies were $20 or free.

honestly I think you just played the wrong hand!! with 4 guys you should have simply each kicked in 20 bucks each shook his hand and said, any way you could waive the cover for us, and he would have gladly let you in without a cover and made himself a few bucks.

The story sounds like the bouncer wanted to be greased $40 a head, not the cover was $40. I paid cover at jet once, but I cant remember what it was. $40 doesnt sound high for cover.
