  • For those who drop LOTS of money....

I see people on here who seem like they drop a TON OF MONEY in Vegas... just curious as to what you guys/girls do for a living?

I'm a Manufacturing Engineer (Operational Excellence/Quality Engineer is my title) and do pretty well for 23, but its hard for me to justify going above my usual budget of ~$3k (after hotel and flight) for 6 days in Vegas (try to hit $400 day give or take) let alone 10k table mins for a night. My brain usually says, "that extra bottle is a new TV when you get home.... think about it."

Just curious as to what others do for a living.... might be time for a career change....

The way I see it, dropping a grand in Vegas (not including travel expenses) is par for the course. It's a vacation town after all. People scrimp & save to make it out to the desert, and for a lot of people it's their one & only trip. Regulars like us are exceptions to the rule, and I wouldn't recommend anyone do this who isn't: a.) gainfully employed, b.) responsible, and c.) single (I would hope taking care of your family is more important than blowing your wad at casinos regularly)

Personally I'm a web administrator working in Socal, so travelling cost isn't too much of a concern (If I take thurs and mon off, I can usually book a round trip flight for $100~). Anytime I go, it's usually with a large group of friends, and we split a room. I'm a very conservative gambler, and most of what I spend is at the clubs (getting in, buying drinks, etc.). All-in-all an average Vegas trip will cost me 5-600, and we go about once every 3 months. That's plenty of time to put money towards a "vegas fund"

I usually do 2 trips a year - so I try and stay for 6/7 days each trip... make it worth my while.

      Flight is generally $250
Room is generally $300 per person over that time
... lets just say $500 for sake of ease.
      $500 to get there/stay
Then I usually do about $3,000 over that week on whatever and have a BLAST!!

... so on my two week long trips during the year I spend about $7,000... that is more than some people spend on a single bottle... blows my mind.

Ton of money is definitely a relative term. It really depends on where someone resides and their typical living expenses. Also remember many of the people that go in on bottle service dont foot the entire bill. Its split amongst a group of people.

I'm a Software Engineer (QA to be exact) and also make pretty good $$ for my age. I usually go to Vegas 1x a year(sometimes 2x, depending on the finances) and usually average a $3-5k trip on the weekend. But I also do a lot of gambling and when I do BS, my friends and I want the best of the best...meaning dancefloor table when possible and always the TIER 1 joints.

But like Royale said it depends on typical living expenses....if you make $100k+ a yr, what is spending $10k on a weekend trip?

that said, dropping voracious amounts of money isn't the only way to have fun in Vegas.. It's definitely the way to maximize/guarantee fun there, but I've had just as much fun there dropping $200 (not including travel) as I did dropping $600 on a weekend.

            here's my frugal approach:
            - if you're going with a large group: split everything. Cost of gas (for those close enough to drive), suite price, taxis, etc.
            - we have the luxury of being able to pre-game anywhere on the strip. Buy a bottle from the store, and carry it with you, just time it to where you'll finish right before you get inside. Once you're in, buy the cheapest beer to sip on, you'll be too fucked up for anything stronger anyway.
            - as far as sustenance goes.. I'm a big fan of my 2,000 caloric intake at Hash-House too, but when food isn't a high priority: nothing beats a case of Ramen back at the suite.

If anyone else has more "having fun on the cheap" tips in vegas, I'd like to hear them!

I dont consider Vegas as my main vacation spot like some people that have to fly in and make it a whole week long trip. Living in Socal, its more like a weekend getaway. I've even done 12-24hr trips just for the hell of it.

Alot of people go big in Vegas but I feel its because they hardly go and they want to make it worth it. I usually budget $300-400 for a weekend, without gambling. And I've gone back to back weekends many times this past summer so it does add up. Some special weekends for batchelor parties or something, I'd spend alot more. But most often its just a regular weekend like going out to a friday night club locally for us. I calculated without gambling, I spent about $3000 in Vegas from June to Sept divided in about 8 trips. A couple of the trips, the rooms were comped so that made that weekend cheaper. Half with my family, half with friends. So some was partying, some was going out and dining with the wife and kids.

I'm far from rich. LOL. I do have my own business and my wife has a great job but we have a SoCal mortgage. haha. So we do Vegas on a budget and we make the most out of what we will spend. Like I was saying Vegas is just a weekend getaway and we usually reserve more of our vacation funds to international destinations. We usually do 2 carribean trips per year. Bermuda and Puerto Rico this year. Just plane far alone for 4 is $2000 per trip so the Vegas budget of $3000 spread out half the year is a great deal. LOL.

Don't feel you have to be ballin and act like it when you're there. Enjoy with whats comfortable for you. Its funny to me when people act ballin on a budget and spend big every dime they have while in Vegas. At the same time, driving back in their Toyota Corolla packed with 4 of their friends.

+1 we do all that with the bottle service So pretty much the entire trip's main costs is just the expense of the bottles!

lmfao, the bucket car does have its advantages in avoiding tickets on the 15! However it does look funny when you pull up the Ceasars valet and the crew hops out still trying to look fly.

To me that is still crazy when I put it in these terms....
someone makes 100k (odds are they say that before taxes)... so they actually make 70k

                    10k on lets say a 7-day trip (1 week)
10k week / 70k year = 15% of that persons total income for the year.
                    1 week / 52 weeks = 1.9% of the person's total year

... I understand its vacation and you've got to let loose, and believe me I do it too...

I'm making less than 100k a year and spending about 7k a year on Vegas, so I am totally guilty of going nuts for that short week I'm there.

... thread missed my initial question, which was my fault (I worded it poorly)....so here we go again,

You guys who go to Vegas for 4/5 nights and spend 3k+ a night each night just at the clubs, what do you do? I picture those who can afford to go that crazy are old and boring... clearly not the case. More/less trying to picture a AOD member at a job somewhere.... like does my doctor slip away on the weekends to blackout in Vegas?

What people do for a living is irrelevant. There's plenty of 30k millionaires that go to Vegas. My company pays for my trips (perks of owning a business). . I probably only average $500 a day.

There's so many levels of spending in Vegas, its hard to compare. There's gamblers dropping $20K on tables then you have gamblers that are on video blackjack or video poker with also $20K bankrolls. That Video Poker guy on the machines may not look high roller but theyre dropping $ in those just as much as others on the tables.
Point is, you never know what each and everyone is spending and what their net worth is outside of Vegas. LOL. For all you know, they can be spending all they own or its just a drop in the bucket for them.

Spend whats comfortable for you and what you think what your dollar is worth spending on. Its your hard earned money and if you think Bottle Service is worth more to you than a new TV, then do it. LOL.

I personally have my limits. When splitting the BS, $200 or so for me is reasonable for my share. The point of BS is so that you're getting the amount of alcohol at a price that would be comparable to getting at the bar, but at the same time, you're paying for the real estate of being able to sit down and chill at the table.

There's those times and certain clubs/dayclubs that would take $500-1500 easily to split a table/cabana, personally thats where I draw the line. In my world, $1000-1500 pays for a week at a 5 star resort in the carribean. I value that more than what any pool party or club has to offer for just a few hours. hehe.

I highly doubt that anyone drops $3k a night by themselves on this forum. Usually BS is split between the group and on average its $500 a person TOPS.

The only people I could picture spending $3k a night themselves are people who are some sort of business owners and are taking potential clients out, then they are able to have it as a tax write off for their business.

im a financial advisor. early 30s. skys the limit for income in my industry. this year i'll probaby end the year at $145k. i go to vegas about 3 times a year. i don't always do BS because i go in small groups, 2-3 people and we have friends from home that work at the bar at multiple places so they give us drinks.

we also gamble, and eat at at least one nice place per trip. last time it was mastros.

as for a budget i don't really restrict myself. I'd rather have the full experience rather than hold back. money is money and there's lots of time to make more. i also don't go out at all when i'm home so it all evens out.
