  • Who gambles in Vegas?

Just curious to know if the JC community does any gambling. I feel like most on here are in Vegas for the nightlife and maybe some fine dining but very little gambling. When you're in Vegas how much time and money do you spend hitting the tables?

Is it only about the clubs?

I like to gamble but I try to limit it to short bursts. Nothing like sitting a table for hours and being down a bunch of money. My thought process is we do it before we hit the clubs, when we come back from the clubs (if we are lucid enough) and real quick when we grab a bite to eat.

I usually only gamble in the sportsbooks. I live 2:45 away from AC and have a casino 30 minutes away if I want to play blackjack/poker. I just don't see the point in wasting the little time I have in Vegas when I'm there at a blackjack table or a poker room, when I can do that when I'm at home.

That's definitely the smart way to play it. What's your limit?

i think it depends on how long the trip is. When I went for 5 days, there was downtime / recovery some days so sitting at a table for a while wasn't out of the question but if its just a 2 day trip I'm more than likely gunna pass on the tables.

I chose the moderate $500-$1000 category, I like gambling. I usually burn about $1500-2500, but gambling is not as important to me as partying. Gambling is a small part of partying. I was just going to party I'd head to Miami or NYC.

I agree with you there. Obviously there is an entertainment factor to gambling. When you lose the 2K or so...do you spend a good amount of time chasing your losses? Or can you draw the line?....go on with your other plans and view the 2K as an entertainment cost like getting a table or a nice dinner?

There have been many times where I showed up late to dinner because of a hot shooter at a craps table. I'd say partying and gambling in Vegas are equal in my book. Whenever I'm at Surrender or XS, I always make a visit to the craps table.

I put my self as "moderate." I can spend a lot of time at the tables, but I try not to spend a lot of money. I definitely see gambling as a priority right up there with partying. However, I play roulette so if the luck is just not with me, it's just not. I can't change that since there is really no skill involved. I try to walk away without falling into the trap of thinking "7 HAS to hit soon." I average about 24 hours at the tables per trip, but the most i've lost in one trip is $800 and the most I've one in one trip is $1000. The thing with table games that helps me out is that they rate you on length of play and average bet so I still get pretty decent comps sometimes. My room for Halloween is comped except for the last night. I also don't bounce around between hotels to gamble so I get to know the dealers & they know me. It might be a sign that I sit at the tables for far too long when the dealers remember me between trips. My favorite part of roulette though is that the table usually allows you to make lots of new friends. I like that it can be a pretty social game.

Thursday night - just rolled into vegas with some friends. They stop at a BJ table and i wander over to the roulette nearby - "let's see what this gambling thing is all about!" I say.

                    "$100 on black!" .... red.
                    "$100 on black!" ... red.
"shit.. $100 on black!" ... red.
"DAMN IT $100 on black!".... red.
"one last time.. $100 on black!!" ........ Red.

Now I only play craps and limit myself to ~300 per trip. Anything more and I think "i could of got a bottle in a club for that much"

Gambling is what brought me to vegas and now I all I want to do is party. I think I'm still moderate. I usually hit the tables late after the clubs and try to make some money back.

Last time I played a while at marquee day club because the dealer. I thought I was in love. LOL.

depends how long i'm staying, but my bankroll is bout 2k a trip. i never stay at a table for a long time, i always kinda just hop around, and if i feel like i'm losing, i'll take a walk around the casino to people watch.

love playing craps, good odds if you know what you are doing and pretty fun to play

For those that answered the "Gambling is almost as important as partying" category, what do you do when you lose that say $1000-$5000? Do you spend even more time and money chasing the loss or can you truly walk away and stay within the budget?

I limit myself to losses more than anything and it depends on the game. If I sit down to the poker table, I have no problem sitting down with $200-$300. If I bust because of an idiot that got lucky I will probably rebuy. If I bust because I was the idiot, I just get up. Typically I end up a little ahead (about 30%).

Table games on the other hand are a deadly beast because you can have swings that are insane. The first trip I went with $600 cash for the entire trip and I got lucky with betting on MMA and roulette. I put my $600 back and just gambled with my winnings.

Last trip was similar, only I got lucky playing let it ride. I was down about $200 from the night before and I won $1000. I immediately put the 1k in my suitcase and gambled with the other 1k I brought. I ended up ahead again.

This trip I am planning on bringing about 2-3k to gamble and party with. Pre-paying for my tables is going to help out the wallet, so I can have a little more fun when I am there.
