Nobody but the section host is making anything.
And there is almost no chance at becoming a section host till at least next summer.
...and there are at least a dozen people ahead of me.

I did go out on an interview today though...looks good so far.
Then you are one step ahead......

But is there anyway to be creative. Find out who to pair up with so when xxx is not there one night, you will be asked to take his spot and now those tips are all yours.

your on here, you have some kind of networking goining for you. Find out how to sell some tables. Pair up with a host. you do the work. Tell him you will walk them to him, then they are his after that. You would want 25-50$ per say every 500$. No one is going to say no to easy money.

Off topic, but I work at home depot part time. During xmas, they stick me by the trees. We can pull in about 50$ in tips in a day. As far as the average worker knows, "we dont take tips, managers are always on us". For someone a little closer, "we dont really like to take tips as it keeps the customers coming back but if they do have us go out of our way we might get our lunch paid for". But if someone is in the cliche(helping out, doesnt mean "in")... "hey dude, heres a few dollars, that lady gave me a 5$ and you helped out a little"......."so how much have you made", "ive got like 40 so far".

Please tip your xmas tree cutter this year!

You seem to be wavering between the right and the wrong attitude. If your job doesn't pay much find another job instead of finding a way to hustle and get paid more.

Your job pays what it pays because if you quit there are a million guys that would lining up to take your job.

It might be time to look outside of the security guad profession; or perhaps the nightclub profession altogether. Asking to be a section host is a great start, but you should look to expand your horizons.

We live in a sociopathic society, and without worker protection the system of capitalism seeks to exploit and take advantage. This is explains why inequality has exploded in this generation. Investors hate money going to workers, regardless of profits.

Thats where unions come in. A good unions sole purpose to to fight for the interests and the benefits of workers. Why have corporate mouthpieces in the media worked so hard to demonize unions? Greed, pure and simple, and the greed at the top has become so insatiable. They dont want to stop the trend of the last 30 yrs where all of the wealth is being transfered to the top at the expense of the working middle class.

So my suggestion? Try to unionize las vegas security. Im sure security guards all across the strip share your frustration. You guys serve an important, and critical role for the club. You should be paid more --- and you deserve more. This will not be an easy fight, but if you are serious about improving the conditions for not just yourself, but all security guards --- then the sacrifice will be worth it.

        Good luck, friend.
I haven't had a good union bashing in a while so this should be fun.

Unions were originally designed to protect workers from abuse in small towns where there was virtually no choice but to take that abuse. That is virtually non-existent except in small towns today and it has destroyed our economy.

Fighting for the workers rights cripples management, and if the working conditions aren't good you can go somewhere else - and if management wants good workers they'll treat them well and pay them well.

For most hard workers the union will offer them nothing - they don't need protection from unfair practices because they are valuable, and they don't need more pay because they will be paid well or they will walk (but management WILL pay them because they don't want them to walk).

Unions also make it incredibly difficult to get fired, thus creating a lazier attitude. There's a reason why GM isn't as competitive as Japanese brands... $35 / hr for entry level manufacturing work straight out of high school? That's crazy.

In conclusion, don't start a union. You're only protecting the lazier portion of Security Guards and management will definitely do what it can to stop it from happening.
