I think the pads are too close, especially if you plan on eating(don't think you can ) . The other options mentioned are spot on.

Depends on your group size and budget. We had 3 people so a beach couch was perfect.

If I had a group of up to 6, I'd go for a couple beach couches. Lilypad/water couches aren't my thing - (a) I wouldn't like it if my phone/other stuff got wet from people swimming around and (b) you can't get food on them. Not that I want to eat, but since you're there through lunch, I'd want the option of having a quick bite.
      If I had a group of 7-8, I'd go for a daybed.
If I had a group of 9-12 then I'd be looking at a cabana.
If I had a group of 12+ then I'd have a think about cabana vs pair of daybeds (because I feel like the cabanas are just so far away from the pool).
I'm going to be with a group of 11, are there any couch options besides the beach couches that aren't too far out of the action? I've seen some pictures of couches on the ebc website but they dont really show you location. I think I'd rather do a couch or 2 with tabels in the middle than a daybed, seems like it would be more room and more comfortable. On the other hand I guess two daybeds would work, and would be alot of real estate. The only reason I am shying away from a cabana is that it appears, from pictures and what I've read, to be too far out of the action...
If you have the budget for a first floor cabana, do it.

If you were worried about budget, then get one daybed (fits 8) and get presales for the other 3. You can split the total cost and it will push it way down. Obviously this limits room for additional women.

2 daybeds will cost you much the same as a first floor cabana I think.
are the first floor cabanas just as far away as the 2nd floor Cabanas, or are they located closer to the pool?

first floor cabs are directly under second floor, so technically, they are 10 feet closer to the pool. In practical terms though, much closer.

If you have the cash go for a cabana, you can invite as many ladies as you want and have your own private party, when you get bored go for a wonder and invite more girls up

In my opinion MDC has the best pool party floor plan

i remember you saying youve been in grand cabana 16-17 at MDC. Are the heated pools(hottubs) attached to the grand cabanas really used that much? Its gonna be a 100 degrees when my group shows up in late july and it just seems like its a waste of space.

They arent really that hot, remember the hot tub is for all the ladies u want to invite up. They are situated in front of the cabana overlooking the rest of the pool part. If you got the cash get one you wont regret it

Grand Cabana is a pretty awesome location, but out of budget for most.

As an fyi; was just quoted $5k min spend for the Grand Cabana on a usual Friday for 9 guys = after tax, tips ~$790 a person.

yeah seriously. I'm a little worried that this might scare off the guys once i tell them what prices are being thrown around.
