Two of my friends and I all had big birthdays this year...So what else is there to do besides plan an awesome trip to Vegas! We had all been before but never for an entire week. But before we even left, one guy bailed. Apparently his girlfriend didn't like the idea of him celebrating in Vegas without her...F*ck it, my buddy and I weren't about to slowdown and worry about him. We had a Vegas to think about.
Tuesday, June 11th
My flight from the east coast got in a little after 11:00am. After getting my bags and the quick cab ride to the MGM Grand, I was in line to check-in. Some kind of convention was check-in also so lines were long. I was dying to get the room taken care of and start enjoying my celebration. Finally, it was my turn to check-in. I had heard all the stories about how the sandwich doesn't work at MGM but I figured I had to try. The guy sees the $50 (I figured I need that much because of the long stay), smirks, and hands it back. He looks in his computer for upgrades but tells me they all cost extra (even a room with a view of the strip is $15 more per night). I had already paid for my room through booking with ***** ******** on the forums so I am not looking to spend a whole lot more. I decline the upgrades. He plays on his computer for a minute and says I will be on the 27th floor but the room isn't ready and won't be until closer to 3:00pm. Shit! I got a little less than 3 hours to kill.
I run to the bathroom to change, check my bags, and decide to get lunch. I run up to Planet Hollywood to check out Gorgon Ramsay's BUGR. Tuesday at a little after 1pm I didn't expect a line but there was one. Luckily since I was flying solo, I got to skip the line and eat at the bar. Food was pretty good and I will definitely go back.
After I finish eating, I head back to see if my room is ready. It's not. They say they will call me when it is. I am a little annoyed at this point but what can you do? I head out to the pool to get another drink and enjoy the sun. Finally, around 4:00pm my room is ready. I head up, enjoy the view while I am waiting for my bags.
My buddy gets in around 7:00pm and we head out to get the essentials (alcohol, mixers, cups, water, Gatorade, and snacks). Once the room is loaded with the supplies, we decided to grab some food. We ended up in Twin Peaks in Planet Hollywood. The food was nothing great but the waitresses outfits helped ease the pain. Back to the room to pregame. We decided to have a chill night and get drinks at one of the hotel bars. Met some cool people and just had a cool relaxed time.
Wednesday the 12th
We get up on Wednesday and head to the pool to enjoy the sun and start making plans for our time. Our course, planning went better with a bucket of beer or 2. I head back in to try my luck at the poker tables before heading out. I played for over 3 hours - I was up by as much as $225 and down to my last $20 during the time but left the table up exactly $6...I guess I could look at that as a waste of time but I at least I was up.
We got tickets to go see Absinthe at one of those half-price ticket places during the day so we decided we were going to have dinner at the buffet at the Bellagio since neither of us had been there before. What can I say about the buffet? It is one of the best on the strip. Great food.
On the way into the Bellagio they gave us a buy 1 drink get 1 free for Lily...so of course we had to check it out. We walk in and notice two ladies sitting by themselves but continue on to get our drinks. It isn't long before we see them noticing us so we head over for a chat. After about 30 minutes it is decision time...either we leave to see the show or stay and see where things go. My buddy made the call, we stay. After another round of drinks, we move over to Hyde. It was a lounge night for Hyde but it still has a great view of the fountains and at least the tables we open. After a few more rounds we hit the dance floor...The rest of the story is redacted to protect the innocent and guilty!
