  • Last Man Standing - April 2013

    Background –
Group of guys headed to Vegas to celebrate a funer…I mean bachelor party, during the weekend before the wedding. Was originally supposed to be 8 guys (6 so-called vets, 1 virgin, and me; the ring leader/best man and REAL vet), but one guy cancelled a week before due to school obligations, tests, blah blah. Another guy cancelled (the virgin) the NIGHT BEFORE take-off, literally 7 HOURS before take off because he “caught a nasty cold”. I wouldn’t give a fuck if I had a broken leg, H1N1, and chicken pox at the same time; my ass would have been on that plane in morning…but I digress. On to the report...

    Thursday, April 11 –
Fly-in @ ~3p and check-in at The Cosmopolitan. Originally had four 2 Queen City Rooms booked, but wanted to try and upgrade to 2 Bedroom City Suite by “combining” 2 of the 4 rooms. Check-in lines were moderately long, so I was able to scout out which front desk agent I felt would be super sandwich friendly. Made my choice and got in line. Another rep came from the special Identity Platinum check-in room to help me get checked-in. I thought, “Fuck, all that scouting for nothing.” Approach the desk and come right out with it, “I was wondering do you all have any of the rooms ending in ‘53’ (This is the series number of the 2 BR suite) on one of higher floors available? We’ve stayed there before and wanted to replicate it this trip.” After a $50 sandwich and about 30-40mins at the desk and several calls to I assume managers, “Tina” hooked it up for us!

Rest of crew gets in within the hour and we head across the street to Walgreens and get the essentials (booze, beer, cups, water, mixers, snacks, mixers. Note to self for next time; buy a bag(s) of ice). Grab some “Secret Pizza” (this place is SO clutch simply because of the convenient location and price point. The pizza is actually good, which is saying a lot because being from NY, I know good pizza when I see/taste/smell it) and chill and enjoy the calm before the storm.

Pre-game then head to Haze for Industry Night. Previously made arrangements for a table with Isaac Curry. When we arrived he was easy to find and we were inside in a relatively fast manner. Location was as discussed. Place was packed! Not even 3 minutes in the place, one guy from my crew had already found his “girl for the night”. I personally don’t buy the first house I see, but a win is a win…At one point that night Isaac came back to check up on things and then proceeded to walk me around the WHOLE club, table-by-table, and introduced to me to a BUNCH of other industry folks (I’ve had great service before but that was a good move; definitely props to Isaac!). All cool people. More drinks had, dances with 40/50 year old moms, met a cool group from Sydney, and later in the night Flo-Rida preformed a song or two, etc. At some point we leave and head back to Cosmo. [Redacted activities – something along the lines of “That bitch is a hooker. She stole my money.” (Though no hookers were ever sexed nor was any money stolen…)].

    Friday, April 12 –
Rise and shine at about 9am. No hangover FTW. Thank you Pedialyte. In an effort to ensure maximum potential, we get the drinks flowing early. One of the guys sees that there are robes in our room and states, “Yo, I’ve never worn a robe before. I want to be like Hugh Heff! Take my picture!” (famous last words) He’s an idiot, or maybe a combination of drunky and idiot.

The plan was to go to Marquee Day Club that day, but most of guys were super bitchy about recovery and were dragging ass all morning, early afternoon; so we missed out. Pussies…I head down to try my hand at the craps table (usually never play at Cosmo); depressing results. In an effort to make back some the lost dough, I head to the best casino on the strip; Casino Royale. I’ve NEVER left CR without making good money. After leaving with all my riches, I make a purchase from everybody’s favorite street “vendors” that I have been DYING to make –

Don’t be jelly bros. Feeling good after winning some coin and acquiring some fancy new threads, I decide to try my luck back at Cosmo again. DUMB. DUMB. DUMB. I hate everything. Whatever…Time for dinner. We had a reservation at STK. Food was pretty good. DJ played some JAMS I haven’t heard in a while. Good overall experience, especially for a group celebratory dinner.

Pre-game then we head to Marquee for Benny Benassi. Did the hotel guest line. It was short and moved fast (TWSS). However at the cashier, they are SERIOUS about the hotel guest and name on key thing. I made sure everybody’s name was on their key, even though all of the rooms were booked until my name. Girl at the register tried to make it an issue. Told her “It’s not that serious…y’all make a like $1mil a night, cut it out…” (may or may not have been drunk at that point) Was my first time there. Production wise it’s nice, but overall I’m not big fan of Marquee. Hate the layout and the small dance floor. It is what is though; would still definitely go back at some point.

Not wanting to end the party, we head to Body English at like 4:30ish. Was only about half full and was a SAUSAGE fest. Needless to say, we left not too long after arriving. Still wanting to recover my losses from earlier in the day, I take my craps talents to Plant Hollywood. Players on the table were cool, but the chips kept hemorrhaging. Call it a night and head back to Cosmo at about 6-7am.

Fuck sleeping; stayed up and drank and chilled until time for Tao Beach. Reached out to Donnie Eversole and got a poolside table for that day; $500 food and beverage minimum. IMO, that is the BEST location to have a table at TB (In the “Splash Zone” as our waitress described it). Right by the pool and lots of foot traffic, but not to the point of hindrance. Ordered some food and a couple of pitchers to start out with. Food was eh, but it served its purpose of nourishment. Pitchers were a waste; low alcohol content. Wanting to get FUCKED UP that day we switch to ordering AMFs and shots of Patron (I may or may not have a drinking problem; after no less than 12-15 drinks of the combination of the two I was still surprisingly sober). Pro-tip#1 – A shaker tin that includes about 10 shots is $70; each Patron shot individually costs $14. No brainer on which one to get…A group of girls, one of whom is a fellow JC member met up with us. More drinks and FUN times ensued. We became the life of the party that day. GREAT SUCCESS!

Left TB to head back to Cosmo to chill before bottles at 1Oak. However, when it was time to head back out, my whole crew (except one guy who flew out early) was back in bitch mode because they FAIL at recovery. Pro-tip #2 - Don’t be like these guys; do the opposite. The group of girls were hurting too. Damn, now I’m going to have the table all by myself? Fuck it. Sounds like a great plan to me!

When I arrived, Joey Orr was right at the rope and David Chan walked me right in; no wait at all. Had a table for a B1G1. After I was sat, I got on the phone to see if these clowns really were down for the count and weren’t coming out. That was still indeed the case. FML, now I have to come up with a plan for all of this alcohol to be consumed (Most people wouldn’t have bought a table with 2 bottles for themselves; however I had made a verbal commitment to Joey & David and I like to keep my word. Plus I was fully capable to cover the bill myself. Also because FUCK IT, IT’S VEGAS!). On a GOOD day I could take down almost a bottle by myself, but that would still leave another one untouched. A group 6/7 bottle rats (a few of them looked like actual rats also…) picked up on my scent of “dilemma”. I talk to the rat pack leader and give her a drink as I get to the bottom of their intentions. Direct quote - “If you’re friends don’t show up we’d be happy to help you drink this”. GTFO. Ain’t nobody got time for that.

A few minutes later, a young lady asked if she and a couple of friends could have a seat, but was very adamant that they would get up once my friends came. She even offered to buy me a drink as a show of thanks. Clearly I didn’t need it but it was a very considerate offer. We all chat a bit and they definitely were a cool, genuinely honest group of girls. Dilemma solved. 4 girls plus me, WAY better odds than the craps tables. I have my own bachelor-less party! Drinks are shared out and the waitress even started pouring up shots. Party, party, let’s all get wasted! At some point I told one of the girls that I was going to marry her that night (I was 15% joking and 85% serious; while being 100% drunk). About halfway through the night the busboy and security told us that they were moving us to the dance floor. SWEET, no objections there! Shut the place down. Not ready for my “wife” to leave me just yet… [Redacted activities]

    Sunday, April 14 –
Somehow get up at 10a, but with a KILLER hangover. Pack shit and head over to Palms Place to meet-up with “my wife” to grab something to eat (Didn’t know there was an “Earl” there also; not that I EVER go to the Palms anyway) and see her off. Had a pre-sale ticket for Avicii @ EBC, but wasn’t up for another day of insanity, which that definitely would have been (Sort of regret not going, but not really because I may not have lived to survive to give this awesome report). Hit up a friend from college who works at Moorea. He hooks us up with a cabana for no cost which good because all I personally did was lay down and let the sun evaporate the alcohol out of me.
Time to head to the airport. EVERY Virgin America flight is delayed because of construction in SFO. FMLLLL. Gotta love this sign though –

    photo (1).jpg

Vegas is one place on earth I do not wanted to be delayed in. However, I was able get on an “earlier” flight out. Land in DC @ 7:30 Monday AM and still headed straight to work. Get home, FUCKING car won’t start. Battery needs a jump. All I could do is laugh at that point; funny interesting ending to great trip before returning to the real world…

    Until we meet again Vegas…

TL;DR – Went to Vegas. Got drunk. Spent lots of $$$. Made it back home. Success.

    Takeaways from this trip –
    • ALWAYS try for the sandwich, even if you just ask and don’t want to tip. Never know what you’ll get.
    • Find a crew with fast recovery time.
    • Going out and flying solo may be an even better time than rolling with a crew.
    • NEVER want to hear “Levels”, “Rattle”, “Problems” EVER again. Heard these no less than 4,392 times in four days…
    • Don’t need SR to make it a great trip. Only time I've been LV and haven't gone. It's usually a requirement

Nice TR R.D! In a 3 day Vegas trip there should be NO slowing down especially if a table at 1oak is awaiting

Excellent TR. I MUST get that t-shirt when I'm there.

Lucky you didn't go to Avicii -- Levels count would have been +2 at least

EastCoast: "I will preach. Vegas is easy. So easy. Either be rich or good looking (or mooch off someone who is one of those). If you are neither, then sit back, let the rich and/or good looking people sort their shit out, and then take their scraps. Booking early is not going to get you ahead of the rich and/or good looking people. Sucks unless you are rich or good looking. But that's what makes Vegas so great. It is completely transparent."

Great trip report man. I am shocked at how weak your crew was, didn't they understand it was VEGAS ??!! Oh well, they missed out and it worked out good for you anyways! Nicely done.

Adapt and Overcome!!! What an inspiring trip.

Sucks about your crew but... if you can't physically function after 8 drinks at the pool, you best dial it back a little. Me personally, I'd be razor-blade depressed if I paid tons of $$$ to be in Vegas and be stuck in my room on a Saturday night.

About the "virgin" who pussied out at the last moment: does he have a jealous significant other? Cuz I call bullshit (on him). Vegas is too important to let "a cold" put you down. Sometimes you just gotta soldier on.

Fantastic report! I'm heading there in just under 2 weeks for the Maywether fight! A full week of mayhem lined up, just hope I soldier through but you have shown the way it should be done!

Love this!! You know how to live!

And you have somehow made me less worried about the very high possibilities of my girls pussing out early (seriously, some of them are ALREADY WHINING ABOUT HOW TIRED THEY MIGHT BE and we aren't gonna be there for another six weeks). Though a lady going it alone may be in for a different experience, I'll at least try!
I'm not bitchy, I'm just drawn that way.

I'm stealing this quote "I was 15% joking and 85% serious; while being 100% drunk"
I may or may not give you credit for it when I use it.

I too had a buddy act a mitch last year, we had pre-sale tix for EBC on Sunday...I went and returned with a day's catch times 2...
he repeated said mitch act again for XS Night Swim, to my surprise I was able to catch again and fishing was good. So going dolo (solo) ain't so bad...things actually work out

I get my sleeping en route on the flight there and on the flight back...but it does take a day or two back home to recover.

Why did you choose Haze over Tao on a Thurs night? What was the crowd like cause you said it was packed but you danced with 40/50 yr old Milfs...just wondering

I'm sure one of them would let you buy it straight off their back, but I was able to find one guy who had a few slung over his shoulder in different colors/wording. He wanted $20, I gave him $15.

Agreed, but I highly doubt about S/O. He's just generally a weirdo like that.

Smh, BUT at least you know before hand who will be lame sauce. Won't be as of a disappointment as it was for me.

Chose Haze over Tao because I've been to Tao before and never to Haze and got a better table deal at Haze. The crowd was great, it was industry night. I never said that I was dancing with MILFs though there is a soft spot in my heart for them. There was only one (that I remember) there that night. THough I definitely wouldn't mind having a sugar momma to fund my future Vegas trips.... *adds "find sugar momma" to "Next time in Vegas" list*

"Fuck it! sounds like a great plan!" when you have a 2 bottle table solo!?! This is exactly the attitude I want in guys that go with me to Vegas
