  • MayPac weekend, my first TR

So I wrote a trip report last year after my trip in May and had it saved in my draft box on gmail all this time. Seeing that my group along with some newbies will be in Vegas in a few months on the last weekend of April, it just feels right to post the TR. This is my first TR so go easy on me guys.

Me and my best friend from college, T, land into McCarran in the afternoon. Since we were there for MayPac weekend, our connecting flight from PHX to LAS was full of Mayweather supporters. Let’s just say it was a loud and entertaining hour in the air listening to people say how “Floyd was going to shine.” We arrive at McCarran and try to go find our friends who were flying in from different cities. Some miraculous coincidence, we all arrived within a half hour of each others’ flights. For some of the other guys, it was their first time ever in Vegas, so somehow they weren’t able to follow the simple task of following everyone else off their plane, to head towards the monorail. So I opted to take a cab by myself while T waited for everyone else since I was the one checking into the hotel and had to apparently pick up the CCTV tickets for the fight before 4pm, otherwise they would be released (which was complete bullshit since I saw people pick up their tickets at 8pm heading into the theater.)

I get the the Luxor and was thinking there would be an endless line to check-in. In fact, there were only 3 other people on the line. We chose to stay at Luxor for our first night and then switch over to Cosmo the remaining 2 nights of our weekend since every hotel rate on the strip was jacked up that weekend. Once settled into the room, I headed towards Criss Angel theater to pick up our CCTV tickets and then stopped by the convenience store in the lobby to grab a case of beer and some hard alcohol. Eventually the rest of the guys arrive. We all shower, get dressed, and head to the sportsbook to place some bets. We all know how uneventful the actual fight was, so I’ll skip that part.

After the fight, we head over to Light to meet up with Savs and Torebb for a table split. I had Noah set up a table for us that night. Both Savs, Torebb, and their group of friends were awesome to party with. Would definitely do a table split with these guys again in the future. We ended up with a 3rd tier front and center booth. Between 11 guys, we had a 4 bottles of goose, 2 Captain Morgan, and 1 patron. So we were fully stocked for the night. So the night goes on and my friend D, brings up some girls from the dance floor. Keep in mind this is D’s first time ever in a club, so his pick up line was, “do you want to head up to VIP?” I look over at the railing and I see D and one of the girls tongue wrestling each other, which went on for a good 20 minutes. To the point the girl had her hands going up his shirt and down the backside of his pants. They end up going somewhere, only God knows where, but eventually he came back by himself a half hour later. But he leaves again is no where to be found. In the meantime, T and I were playing wingman for D. Of course we’re all hammered by this point and I could barely stand up straight, so I’m sitting down and I look over at T with the girl he was talking to and he had lipstick all over his face. He looked like the joker. The night goes on, Alesso plays his set, which is pretty much the same as all his other sets that I’ve seen in the past.

It’s around 3am and T is beginning to pass out, and the security guards begin to notice. So I slip them a $20 every now and then so that they would turn a blind eye. Eventually my $20 tips ran it’s course, so they told me to get him out of there, otherwise they’ll throw him out. I grab T and we head out. On our way out, our other friend J was talking it up with some girl. So we just let them be. We make it back to the lobby of Luxor and we randomly bump into D aimlessly walking around, so I grabbed him and took him with us. T and D decide to stop in the convenience store in the lobby to grab some beer. They chug it down on the way up to the room. We’re all set to pass out, but D wouldn’t shut up and was obnoxiously loud to the point our neighbors next door called the front desk, and a security guard knocked on our door telling us to keep it down. D wouldn’t shut up afterwards, so we told him to just leave the room for a bit. About an hour goes by and I hear a knock on the door, I thought it was D, but turns out it’s J with that girl at the club. So J is engaged, but it was obvious he was hammered, so drunk J had taken over. I thought they were going to spend the night, but he said he needed to pick something up before he heads over to MGM, which was where she was staying. They leave and I fall back asleep.

The next morning, J walks back into our room and looks like shit. He didn’t remember much from last night, other than meeting a girl at the club, and then walking from the MGM to Luxor because the cab line was so long. I woke up still drunk, so I filled him in with everything I remembered. J was a complete mess (While I don’t condone cheating on significant others, gf, fiance, etc… it’s their life and they can do whatever they want. I’ll just make sure to have fun with the situation until we leave Vegas and then never speak a word about it ever again). I forgot to mention that T has a gf that he was dating for a few months. He wasn’t too upset about making out with another girl, probably because he was having enjoying making fun of J’s situation.) So after digging up songs about cheating on our iPhones for a good 15 minutes to play for J; J asks where D was? At that point it clicked… D never returned after he left the room last night. We try calling his phone, but it was dead. So he was sort of on his own. We just hoped he would eventually find his way back to our room before he had to check out and head over to the Cosmo. I decided to head down to the food court with T to get some McDonald’s breakfast because we felt it was an obligation since it’s been years since we last had it.

After devouring my egg mcmuffin, we made our way to the security area to see if D was in their custody. We told the security officer our story and asked if they had him or if he was transported to the hospital. She told us to wait a minute while she pulls up her list. She begins scrolling down a rather lengthy list for a few minutes. I glanced over at T and we both made the look of, “shit… you see the size of that list.” She said that he wasn’t reported as transported to the hospital. And she’ll send a memo to the LV police to see if they have him in custody. She joked with us that our friend D probably met some girl and went back to her place. So we decided to head back to our room to nap because we started sobering up and my body started to feel all the alcohol from last night…

We wake up to our door opening, and there was D walking in all energetic. I looked over at my phone and saw that it was 3pm. So me, J, and T collectively ask him, “Where the fuck have you been?” So D tells us that he remembers walking out of the room and walked around the casino a bit, and played some roulette and slots. After losing a few hundred, he continued to walk around. Then he walked outside and realized he wasn’t in a pyramid anymore, but was in a castle. He decided to walk to the front of the hotel and take a cab back to Luxor; not knowing that the two hotels are next to each other. I’m pretty sure when he told the cab driver to take him to Luxor, the cab driver probably laughed and drove him around Vegas before stopping at Luxor. Not like he would have known any better. We packed our stuff up, did e-check out since the line was RIDICULOUSLY long for check out, and waited a half hour on the cab line to head over to Cosmo.

Once we get to Cosmo, there was no one in the check-in area, so I checked in really fast. We got the two queen bed studio terrace with an amazing view of the fountain. After getting settled, we head over to Aria and start refueling ourselves at Julian Serrano. It probably wasn’t a good idea that T kept ordering sangria for the entire table. I probably could have gone a good 8 hours without any alcohol in my body, but I’ve never been one to say no to alcohol. Then we make our way to ABC at the miracle mile shops to load up on some more beer and hard alcohol. After pregaming, we took a cab over to Encore to go to XS NightSwim. Noah had set up a table split for us with a group of guys from Seattle. We had an L-shaped beach couch on the pool deck directly behind daybeds. While many people tell me that NightSwim is one of the events you probably don’t need a table for, I’m sure glad we had it because it was PACKED. With it being the grand reopening for the season, MayPac weekend, and two days before Cinco de Mayo; I’m glad we had an area to sit. Had a great time partying with those guys and Noah.

So D and J decide to hit the blackjack tables, and T went around looking for girls. I got a text from Torebb that they had a cabana there. So I went to the upper level cabanas to say hi and see how they managed after last night. When I came back down, T had managed to bring over a group of socal girls. After a few drinks, T and some of the girls decide to jump in the water, while one girl and I stayed back to talk. So I’m a pretty reserved, professional demeanor type of guy, but when you throw some drinks in me, I become the life of the party with a mix of charm and humor. The girl ends up putting her number in my phone and had someone take a picture of us together, and then tagged it as her profile picture in my phone so that I would remember her the next day. (This was actually brilliant because it was very handy the next morning when I was rummaging through texts.)

While talking to some of the Seattle guys, I noticed T made his way back and was sitting on the couch. I walk over to him and he looked like crap. I asked him where he was the past hour and he said, you don’t even want to know… Then a security guard tapped me on the back and said to take care of T because they found him passed out face first in the pool while Avicii was spinning. Apparently the lifeguards spotted it and jumped in and had to drag him out (So T has a history of blacking out and passing out ever since our college days. He’s a very heavy binge drinker when we’re out on the weekends). I grab him, D, and J and we make our way out. As we walk out of XS through it’s main entrance, I didn’t see J and D behind us. At that point, I just wanted to get home, so I take T and we head to the taxi line at Encore. Turns out D had to pee and while J was waiting for him, hotel security escorted J out of the hotel through the nearest exit since he didn’t have a shirt on, which he lost somewhere inside XS. D walked out and didn’t see J, so he cabbed it back by himself. J told me he kept walking back into the hotel and every time was escorted by security out a different door. At one point he said he was in the garage parking. He eventually decided to walk onto the strip and walk through the front area of the hotel to the cab line.

Since T and I were the first two to make it back to our room at Cosmo, I thought to myself… looks like D and J are lost tonight.… Fortunately they made it back an hour or two later. And all is good in the world...

The next morning when T woke up, we all asked him what happened. He said he remembers being dragged out of the pool and then they took him to some medical tent/room. They wanted to transport him via ambulance to the hospital, but he declined. He had a copy of his signed refusal for treatment and his written reason for refusal of treatment was, "I feel fine." Which I found extremely humorous.

The Seattle guys who we split a table with at NightSwim had a cabana at Bare that Monday morning and told us to head on over. With T's near death experience from the night before and my brain and body operating on two different wavelengths, we opted to keep things calm and try to recover at MDC. We ended up getting a grand cabana at MDC. MDC wasn't dead, but it wasn't wild. Which was expected being more of a lounge on a weekday. At the beginning this was great because I was able to rest on one of the couches while T was on the other couch. D and J of course decided to head over to the tables. At that time, I started to go through my text messages and I noticed the girl from the night before had text me. When I looked at the attached profile pic of us together, I would say she looked much hotter the night before, but still pretty good looking. We start to text back and forth and I told her to come with her friends to MDC, but she was at some lunch with her group at some country club away from the strip. While laying down, Devin from Marquee came over to say hi since I used him a few times in the past to set up tables for me. He was telling me how the group of 6 girls sitting along the main pool had asked him if they could just jump into the infinity jacuzzi of the grand cabanas. We all laughed, and then T glanced over screening the girls, then looked back at Devin and asked him to see if the girls wanted to join us. That's when my afternoon of relaxation turned in a small party. The girls came over and up close, two of them were 9s, while the rest of them were a solid 6 or 7. We ordered them a fishbowl since there was no way we were going to hit our minimum spend with the slow pace we were going at. That turned into ordering a bottle of vodka, patron, and champagne. Plus lots of beer. D and J eventually came back and joined our little party. I’m pretty sure the ten of us were being obnoxiously loud at MDC for a day that’s more quiet and relaxed. So I was in the dilemma of texting that girl and partying with the girls at hand. T yells at me to put my phone away and jump in the jacuzzi with everyone. A few hours later, a thunder storm with high winds was brewing so MDC told us they were going to close early. Since we had a ton of beer still left unopened, they actually packed it in clear plastic bags for us to bring back to our room. D and J decided to head to the casino floor to lose more money. And then some of the girls decided to head back to our room with me and T to “help us finish the rest of our alcohol.”

After resting up a bit and showering, we decided to meet up with J and D to hit up Wicked Spoon for dinner. I’m a pretty fit individual, who exercises a lot and watches what I eat, so going to a buffet was a complete waste for me. I barely ate anything, but J was downing food left and right. What’s funny was T was so hungover while eating; when me, D, and J left for our second round of food, we came back and T was no where to be found. I sent him a text to see where he went. He said he went back to the room because he felt so sick. The walls were spinning and he wanted to throw up. Eventually we came back to the room and there was T passed out in bed. D packed his stuff up and had to head to McCarran for his flight since he had work the next morning. That left me and J who were still somewhat alive. Instead of pregaming with the absurd amount of alcohol we had in our room, we decided to go to the Chandelier Bar to get some drinks. The bartender made a really good American Gothic and Moscow Mule. I actually wanted a verbena for fun since I’ve read a lot of people raving about it, but the bartender said I had to head down a level to get it. I wasn’t really in the mood to move since it was pretty packed. I grabbed an American Gothic for T and brought it up to the room. T was sort of awake, so I gave him the drink. It was like Popeye getting his spinach. His eyes lit up and T was back to normal.

Ended up making our way to Marquee, met up with Justen at the door who had us set up with a back wall table in the main room. So a few hours in and all the drinking and lack of sleep from the entire weekend caught up with me. Pretty sure my mind was snapping in and out. Luckily for me, the girl I had met the night before at NightSwim who I was texting during the day was at Marquee with her friends. Her and her one friend joined up with us at our table, and we started taking shots like the good old days in college (I make it sound like ungrad was many years ago, but we’re in our mid-late 20s). So T and J left for the dance floor and left me behind with my girl and her friend. They left me without a wingman, so it was quite the task trying to keep both girls entertained. Eventually T comes back by himself and takes over wingman duties. I would say it was about 3am or so and my body was beginning to crash on me. I closed out the tab for the table and told T and J that I was going to head back up to the room to sleep. I wasn’t planning on taking the girl up with me because I was extremely exhausted, tired, delusional, and my body was rejecting alcohol, so I told her I was going to call it a night. She asked if she could head up to my room. I considered telling her “no,” but I figured it was my last night in Vegas, so why not.

The next morning I wake up, girl next to me in bed, T in the other bed, and J was no where to be found. Since our flight back was in a few hours, I gave J a call and he said he was in the casino at the tables… of course… The girl leaves and tells me to keep in touch. Once we get all of our stuff packed up, we head down to the casino to find J. Surprisingly, he had himself a nice little hot streak, but we also knew if we didn’t physically get his ass up, he would miss his flight. It was obvious he was sleep deprived and still a little drunk, so he gave us some attitude when we tried to get him up. I considered just leaving him there, but T eventually got him up. So we had A LOT of beer and a bottle of Jack and Goose unopened that was still in our room. We thought about leaving the alcohol as part of the tip for the maid, but we figured she might just throw it out. So we asked around the lobby if anyone wanted it. These two girls checking in thought there was a catch or we roofied them, but we assured them they weren’t and told them the seal was still on the cap. They followed us up to the room, and then when we walked in to get the alcohol, they didn’t follow us in. It didn’t register with us at the moment that for their safety they stayed in the hallway. But once it clicked, we were like… yeah… probably a good idea.

So J took his own flight back and then I grabbed some starbucks with T while we waited for our flight. We slept the entire duration of the flight. It was probably the fastest flight to/from Vegas that I have ever been on. I remember closing my eyes and then opening them up only to hear the flight attendant tell us to raise our seat back to it’s original upright position.

It probably took a good week for me to fully recover. The first few days, life felt so slow, and I had trouble concentrating haha. I seriously thought I did some permanent damage to my body while in Vegas. While I burned a lot of cash that weekend, it was probably the best trips that I’ve taken with my friends.

Clubs, hotel, airfare (though not much since I'm from NYC), food, CCTV tickets, gambling: I spent close to $3k this trip. Most of my trips to Vegas is usually closer to $2k though.

Not bad, considering it was Mayweather/Pacquiao weekend.

              Great TR, sir.

I'll be there April 29 - May 3 with some of my friends again. Got a ridiculously cheap rate for a Wraparound Terrace suite at the Cosmo that weekend.
