I was really pumped for New Years Eve weekend in Vegas. The weekend had some lows, but ended on a good note.
We flew in Saturday early afternoon, and despite our flight being over an hour late, managed to still have enough time to check in to our room and hit up GBDC for a bit. I had been looking forward to GBDC for months, and it did not disappoint. Felt oddly comfortable in my rainbow bright inspired costume. Danced with Superman. Did a few shots. Danced some more. Shut the place down.
--To the man that took my glowstick and used it as a mic for singing while standing on the back of the couch (Mark something??) - you were so much fun. I wish I remembered your name . --
Headed back to our room at around 7, and got there just in time for our Vons delivery. Shortly after, room service showed up with a dessert cart and bottle of champagne on the house. We sipped our bubbly, munched on chocolate covered strawberries, red velvet cupcakes and truffles while getting ready. Around 9:30 we headed to The Bank, only to find out management was no longer allowing free entry for guestlist. Decided we didn't want to pay $30 to see Ludacris, so headed to Tryst instead, mostly so we could get stamped for XS entry later to see Steve Angello.
This is where the night turned.... I won't go in to details. I'll just say this: Ladies, I know we've all heard it a million times, but PLEASE be extra careful when you're out - don't set your drink down at someone random persons table or hold it behind your back. You just never know unfortunately.
Next morning was a bit rough, but since we were awake fairly early, we decided to do some touristy stuff. We hit up Minus 5, had a nice lunch, walked the strip wearing bear hats, laughed a lot. By the time we got back to the room, we were all in a much better mood, and ready for another night out.
We got dolled up and headed to Sushi Samba - one of our favorites. Had a killer dinner, and then headed to Surrender to see Skrillex. Got there fairly early, but the general admission line was already long. Sent a text to Anthony K and we were inside in seconds. Great guy - really responsive!
Surrender was also a bit odd. The crowd inside was ridiculous. 2 major fist fights broke out on the middle of the dance floor, people were super aggressive and physical and rude. I've never experienced such nasty crowds in Vegas before, and I go far too much We lasted just long enough to see Skrillex play a few songs before a girl kicked me so hard my knee popped. (Yes, kicked. Not bumped into or shoved or even accidentally kneed. This chick straight up kicked me because I wouldn't let her squeeze in to the 1 inch of room she imagined I had in front of me). I could no longer stand, so my friends helped me hobble outside. After a miserable few minutes sitting in the cold, we left. I barely made it to the cab before collapsing in pain. Debated alternate options for the night, before I decided partying in a wheel chair just did not sound fun. Instead we headed back to the room for a girls night in, ice packs and all!
Woke up fairly late Monday, so wandered the hotel, gambled a bit, and picked up our wristbands for NYE. We had dinner in the room, popped some bottles, and got ready to head out. Got to our venue 30 mins after it opened only to be told we couldn't get in because they had oversold and reached capacity, and were directed to an alternate club. We were pissed. Tried speaking to several people to no avail, so decided we'd just go dance for a couple hours and then head back to our room and watch the fireworks from our balcony. Probably one of the best decisions we made. We had a killer view of the entire strip, it gave us a chance to sit and chill for a bit, have a snack and rehydrate. After the show we walked back down to the club. It was dead by 3am, so we debated heading to Drais. By this point my knee was shot, despite the brace, and I was limping pretty bad. Instead of fighting the Drais crowd, and the pain, we called it a night and headed back to the room.
Up the next morning to pack and check out and find a way to kill the 11 hours before our flight. Thanks to good timing and a Hotel Tonight server glitch we were able to snag a free room at Wynn. Score!! Checked in at noon without a hitch, used the room to sleep and shower, and spent the day being lazy. I kept expecting the hotel staff to knock on the door and kick us out, or some outrageous charge to be put on my credit card at the end. But all I was charged was the resort fee. It was great!
Grabbed a cab to the airport with the worlds funniest driver, and caught our flight home where tarted planning our next trip... On a non-holiday weekend!
