  • LDW 2012 TR - Reader's Digest version

    hey all,

OK, here's a stripped back TR of the LDW weekend. Deliberately light on details, to protect the innocent/guilty/other.

    Friday, 31 Aug.

So we arrived Friday early afternoon after a long flight from Oz. Got checked into the Cosmo, debated whether to hit the pool, but decided to take care of all the stuff that I wouldn't want to do later. Walgreens run, do all my ironing for the weekend etc. etc. Got that sorted, chilled with a couple of drinks in the room. Get myself ready to meet the crew in the lobby for an early dinner.

Head over to the palms for dinner at N9NE. There for a 6.30PM, which is early I know, but the place was basically empty. Had a kobe burger, which was ok. Place is filling a bit, but certainly not packed, as I thought it would be for LDW. Down a few wines and we bump on time for our tranfer to Mandalay Bay. Get to Mandalay, head up to the Foundation Room. Hadn't been there before and was pleasantly surprised. Small place, but funky interior, and of course, awesome view of the strip. Few quick drinks, meet a few girls from MA (I think?) who were heading to Afrojack at Tryst. Exchange numbers, jump in our transfer and head over to XS.

Arrive XS 10.30, the line is already starting to look impressive. Kelly Yeager meets us out front like the champ host he is, and we go straight through to our table. Great location, everyone is pumped and our table gradually becomes a total shitshow with about 15-20 girls stacked in. Was kind of the theme of the weekend. Great buzz in the room, crowd naturally goes nuts when Tiesto comes on. Party, party, and more party. NoahRam and a few of his friends join for a drink, I think Ashroid joins also (can't really remember). Good times. I left early, around 3AM, I think, and miss out on Afrojack and Tiesto spinning side by side at around 4AM, which apparently went off. Oh well, you can't have everything...

    Saturday, 1 Sep

Hit chandelier bar a bit before 11AM, for a bloody mary or two, to get the heart started for MDC and Avicii. Rest of the group assembles, and we head in at 11.30AM. Side note, I use Justen for Marquee, and booked MDC through him also. Justen wasn't technically working the days, but he was there anyway to take care of us and walk us through to our table. Justen, you're a boss!

Its only 11.30AM, but MDC is already pretty jammed. We start the party up again. Ashroid joins the party, as does Noah, the girls from Foundation Room, a big group of friends from NY, and a cast of thousand randoms. The group next to us are going crazy - couldn't quite see, but they do either a 3L or 6L Ace of Spades, followed by a 3L Dom. Their cabana is even more jammed than ours, which is saying something. Avicii comes on and does a great set. Crowd sings happy birthday to Avicii, afternoon is a blur, everybody gets thrown in our pool, place is absolutely jam packed, finish up and leave at 6PM.

Head up the room, get ready for dinner at Jaleo. Get to Jaleo about 7.30PM. Place is packed. Great energy and vibe. Good food. Eat, drink and are merry at Jaleo. Finish up and head back over to Wynn for Mau5 at Tryst.

Had booked through Patrick, who I hadn't used before. Text him to let him know we're on the way, he texts back that he isn't there yet and to look for Kelly or Bobby. Hit the line at 10.30PM, which is already starting to build. Spot Kelly, he spots me, and we're in. Side note, Kelly takes us to our table, but tells me the view of the DJ booth isn't great (which it isn't), so he's going to move us to a better location. Which he does, and because we've got a big crew, he has our table roped off. For those that ask what the value of a good host is and the value of a good relationship with said host, its this kind of thing. Kelly, you're a champ.

So story of the weekend continues, table is jammed - and the group includes Ashroid, Noah, the legendary Mikey T and his even more legendary GF (love ya, Kelly). Great group of peeps, just a pity Deadmau5 was dissapointing, but had been kind of expecting that, so no major let down. Shut down Tryst, head back to the Cosmo. Was going to head straight to bed, but decide to drop in as the Vesper bar for a quick drink or two on the way. Walk up the bar, bump shoulders with Justen Crews. Few drinks, head to the room to kip for a few hours and get ready for Sunday..

    part 2 to come..

    Sunday, 2 Sep

Fall out of bed around 9.30AM. Pregame party in my room from 10AM, and we head over to EBC about 11. Had booked with Drew, but he texts me to let me know he's not there yet, and to sort things out with Raul. Not all of our group is there yet, and so Raul let's me know to get everyone in by 1PM, as they are going to be shutting down the queue at 1.30PM. Works the texts to let everyone know, get through the white glove security (still don't understand why EBC and WR do that..) and head to our area.

I really like EBC, but find that it needs to be jammed to get a good vibe happening. Fortunately, its a jammed kind of day, already pretty busy by 11.30AM. We head to our area, and get settled in. Decide that today needs to be crazy, so despite the fact that we have about a dozen girls with us already, I grab Mikey T's gf, and go on a recruitment drive. Don't know if its an aussie thing, but within 2 minutes we've got a group of 3, another group of 3, and a third group of 2. Feeling like the pied piper, I lead the way back to our spot.

We get the party started, good times, everyone getting loose. Guetta comes on. Not bad, but not great. Jokingly tell security we want to set the world record for girls in our pool. They take it at face value, and start trucking them in. Total shitshow, but NOW its a party Ruckus starts up in the group next to ours, when EBCs biggest spender - a Saudi billionaire - turns up and decides he want to hang at his regular spot. It all gets sorted when he pays their bill, stays for an hour and leaves. Just wish his regular spot was the one we were in!

Couple of Noah's friends are due to leave that day, but decide they want to stay for Tao, so I leave around 4.30 ish, to grab their stuff and move them in with me.

Roll out of bed, get ready and head over to Tao. Meet Ashroid, RickyRekon, his sis and a buddy out front and they join our group. Jordan Mazuryk is our host. Great host, great guy. Meets us out front and we are straight in. Tao was packed, and it was a great night. Noah and Dex join the party, and our tables are jammed and heaving. Morillo goes off. Only regret is I didn't stay for the epic 8AM shutdown, but the girls are ready to leave by about 4.30AM, so we head off and leave the rest of the group to their partying.

    Monday, 3 Sep

Grab the survivors of the group, and head over to Tao Beach. Traer takes us straight in, and its time to start the party again. I know a lot of folks don't really like TB, but I really love it there. Being the Monday, its a bit more chill, but still a ton of people, and a great vibe. We settle into our cab right on the pool edge and wind back into things. Turns into a bit of an AOD reunion, with Ashroid, Dex, HunterDallas, Mikey T, RickyRekon (I think?) NoahRam all hanging out, and Jordan from Tao dropped in for a few drinks. Chappy rocks up and cranks things to a new level, in usual Chappy style. LOL. Benassi gets the crowd going, and we have an awesome afternoon.

Its our last night, and meet the crew in the chandelier bar for one last hurrah at Marquee. The usual horde of people outside Marquee, so we know its going to be a good night. Grab Justen at the ropes and head straight in. We've got the whole crew packed in, and its a shitshow yet again. A few waitresses from Tao who are friends turn up as promised, and we settle in for the night. I'm feeling kind of shattered from the weekend by now and must admit I'm not really in a party mood, but Hardwell saves my bacon. Easily the best set of the whole weekend. Totally unexpected, totally awesome and exactly what I needed. We go nuts and party hard. Eventually, our group starts thinning, but I'm determined to shut down Marquee on the last night. Seamless transition from Hardwell to Scottyboy, and the party continues. Still not sure quite how it happened, but we ended up with all the GoGo dancers at our table toward the end of the night, after they had finished up and changed. It was the last night working at Marquee for one of them, so they were all in a party mood, and damn, didn't they like to party.

Ugly lights start to come on at 6AM, so scoop the remaining girls from our group and head off.

Check out at 11AM Tuesday, and our groups walks over to Bellagio for a leisurely lunch at Olives, sharing pics, vids and a bunch of 'damn, now that was a weekend..' stories. Head to the airport for the very, very long and painful flight home, and start planning the next trip on the flight back..

Epic weekend, and a few special thank you's are in order:
Kelly Yeager at XS/Tryst, Justen Crews at Marquee, Jodan Mazuryk at Tao, Chris Traer at TB. All awesome hosts, all awesome people.

Finally, NoahRam is an absolute champ. Met Noah for the first time over LDW, so hadn't booked anything directly with him, but would not hesitate to recommend him. Not only does Noah do a great service with his contributions to the forums and the JC community, he is a great guy too. Noah, thanks for hanging with us much of the weekend. Hope we weren't too boring

I love LV, but I've come to realise that what I really love are the people. Catching up with the locals, the AOD Invasion faithful, and a bunch of industry folks that I've befriended over time, is the main reason I come back (ok, one of the reasons).

And to those of you who missed this trip (you know who you are), yes, you fucked up...but you'll have an opportunity to redeem yourselves in a few months

Wish we could have met up at Chandelier before Marquee that Monday night. We ended up hunting down secret pizza and bothering people at the pool table on the third level (oh and playing the piano next to the convention area) before heading into Marquee. We def gotta put something together and more organized next time. Partying with you sounds EPIC!!!

Yeah, a JC Chandelier take over would have been fun. There's always next year!

Bang, bang, bang...that's the sound of my head hitting my desk for missing this trip. I know it was crazier than what boags put down in words. I've already got the time off, Ben. I'll be there you know when.
