This is going to be one tricky report as I foolishly made my username my actual name. So I’m going to keep it reasonably clean unfortunately. If a mod can rename me to something I’ll deliver the uncut version!
Day 1 20th Oct
The line up was 5 late 20’s early 30’s, 3 Vegas virgins. Me, Denver, Barrack, J and Walkie Talkie (WT) arrived at Manchester airport ready for 7 days of obliteration. 2 litres of grey goose purchased in duty free and we are ready to board.
We flew direct with virgin atlantic, we knew 11 hours of non stop drinking would be a bad idea. Never the less as soon as the plane was up we ordered 5 gin and tonics. A few hours of explaining BJ, roulette and VP to the newbies on J’s iPad and watching Eddie Murphy Raw and Vegas vacation and we were almost there. We drank the bar dry with about 2 hours left to go which was a bummer. Touch down in Vegas and on the runway we can spy our palace for the first night – Hooters…
Imigration was a pain in the arse, about 40 minutes to get through, straight in a taxi to hooters. Now it only cost us $60 for 3 rooms here for the night so not a bad deal considering it included breakfast. We checked in and left $100 a room cash deposit.
Straight out on the beer. About 4pm Vegas time, midnight back home.
I stopped to play a bit of VP in hooter while a couple of the tarts got spruced up. Managed to win a few bucks and get a couple of coronas, in fact some random guy came speaking to me, asked if I was irish (common theme) and then bought me a bud lime. Nice start to the trip.
I was up for bouncing around VP bars but the tour guide of the group J wanted to show the newbies as much of vegas as possible in the first few hours. We went from MGM to Carnival court stopping off at every cocktail bar on the way drinking AMF’s. Each round was like $80. Got to carnival court and it was quite busy compared to all the other bars/lounges. Strong drinks too! I ended up on the BJ tables and proceeded to win hand after hand. Was about $300 up when I walked away.
At some point soon after I got separated from the wolfpack, so I headed back to hooters calling in at a few casinos on the way. My luck began to run out *sad face*. By the time I reached hooters all my winnings had gone. No worries, hooters has been good to me in the past, its now about 2am and I’d been awake about 25 hours. Fast forward 6 hours and about 10 more drinks. I’m $500 down and an physical wreck. To bed I go, wake up at 10.30. Vomit. Knock at the door 11am. Time to check out. The other lads had been to coyote ugly and had a got back about 3am, surprised they didn’t see me at the tables.
I skipped breakfast. On check out we were told we only gave $50 deposit a room. After checking surveillance (yeah right) we were told there was nothing they could do. Oh well, we wont be back.
Next stop Wyndham Grand Desert. I had 6 nights free here from work, J and Denver had booked in the Cosmo for 2 nights (fri and sat) so they went to check in there. They paid about $1000 for 2 nights which I thought was excessive.
Wyndham was awesome, 10 minute walk from miracle mile. The rooms were huge, I had 3 rooms booked for us and each had a hot tub in the room. Which I planned to use to replicate a rap video each night – never happened. The best thing was they were so quiet for getting some quality R&R. there was also no casino in this hotel which was a relief after night 1!
Day 2 (Friday 21st) we were hoping to check out Tao beach, however there was no chance I was going anywhere, I hit the sack to get some energy for Marquee later on that night.
Whilst I slept the others had a few beers at the pool and J and Denver did a reccy around the Cosmo.
My plan for Marquee was to get there as it opens get stamped and go back out and mingle with the gamblers and drink. J and Denver had spoke to a host during the day who said without BS there was little chance of 5 lads getting in. He could set us up with a 1k min. I wasn’t keen, I expressed my reservations about the location, tax, tips etc. I was getting made to feel like a kill joy so I just went along with out. Before hitting marque we went up to their room at the cosmo, they had upgrade to a room with a sunken hot tub, it was really nice but compared to our rooms which we got for free I’m not sure it was worth paying over $1000 for. Between us we had a quick litre of Grey goose and sat out of the balcony. Any way, on to marquee
We got a table pool side, I didn’t mind this as it allowed you to chat to people, inside was a bit manic. Ordered a magnum of Goose and that was the $1k min gone, few girls flocked over to the table and in about 1 hour the full bottle had gone. We considered another bottle but we were starting to want to get involved in the action, me and WT went to check out the Boom Box Room which was good, really small but the music was pumping and everyone was having a good time. Back up we went to the table where Denver almost put another magnum on his CC but we hit the bar instead. We also noticed at this point barrack had disappeared. A few drinks later and we were slam in the middle of the dance floor for DJ Chuckie, he was really good and had some great dancers on stage. I’ve never seen a dance floor where bouncers are stopping people get on! About 3.30am I decide to head off. On the way out I remembered Cosmos gamble $100 and lose and you can get it reloaded on your players card. I played $5 VP and soon lost the lot, the Identity desk wasn’t open so had to wait for the next day to get that loaded.
Day 3 Sat 22nd
I wake up early after about 5 hours sleep and Liverpool are playing on TV so I knock on for Barrack who is a big Liverpool fan, find out he got thrown out of Marquee for being too drunk, he denies this though we aren’t too sure as he was definitely trying to get his money worth by power drinking!
The game is over about 11am and after trying to wake up Walkie talkie we come to the conclusion he is dead and head out for some breakfast and a wander of the strip. After some quick fast food I introduce Barrack to video poker, after 6 or 7 jacks and coke costing about $10 in total we head back to get ready for the palms and to arrange WT’s funeral. With our group being at 2 different hotels and our mobile phones not working it was a night mare.
We were booked in at Nove to eat around 8 with a travelzoo coupon we bought, this restaurant is so dark, it is not advisable to go here with a hangover! The food was nice, not as good as probably the normal menu as the deal was separate from the usual menu. But at the end we were ready for home! The deal included wrist bands for the palms clubs so we had to check out ghost bar. Well this woke us up, great views, good music and crawling with girls! After using our English accents to our advantage we had a few girls chatting to us outside, I like this sort of place where there is a quieter area to talk. Next we hit Moon, when we got here I thought ‘I wish we had arranged bottle service here’ the place was pumping and the tables seemed to have loads of room around the dancefloor. We stayed here a while then went to check out rain which was dead, there was probably 50 people in there tops. I was about 1am but at about 2am we decided to hit the pai gow. There was a premier league game on at 5am that we wanted to see (Manchester derby) and the pit boss managed to get it on so we could keep playing. We all held our own at the table, and one by one people left to go home. Me and Walkie Talkie stayed til noon and the pit boss comped us a champagne buffet, this was interesting after about 40 beers! Best night of the trip and quite unexpected, also the cheapest! I hear B1G1 are quite common here, wish my phone had been working as I’d spoke to Phil Loomis prior to the trip!
We got back to the hotel and passed out.
Woke up about 6pm. Everyone was feeling terrible today but me and walkie talkie walked to the Hard Rock and had a starbucks to sort us out. Anyway a few strawberry daiquiris later and a few hundred on the slots…and we were ready for bed! Headed back to the hotel and got pizza delivery. Really liked the vibe of the Hard rock, I’d stay here if the price was right.
The next day everyone was fresh and ready to go, to the stratosphere we went. We all got the pass to go on the rides, a couple of the group are scared of heights so it was pretty funny. There is a carvery up there that do great sandwiches.
After Saturday’s Pai Gow success we sat down in the Strat to try again, our luck ran out, everyone lost over $100. We did manage to get 5 or 6 beers which was a consolation! Me and J then hit craps while everyone else went back to the hotel (Denver and J were now at the Wyndham with us). We had an awesome run on craps and should have cashed out but we kept going and lost most of hour winnings, we must have been there a couple of hours and drank a good few beers.
We got back to the hotel and I wanted to get straight back out before the hangover kicked in! After waiting around for what seemed like ages I took a lie down, then I started feeling terrible and by the time everyone was ready I was ready to stay in! The rest of the crew went for a wander and ended up in Koi. They got BS which was $200 for a bottle of Sky. Not bad, think they did 2 bottle in and were in a pretty bad state so probably worth it! Sounded like I missed a good night when I heard the stories…
