note: I am posting this while here in Vegas. I will be updating it each day with as much info as I possibly can remember. This is a live trip report, so if you are in town and want me to mention you in it find me at the club and just say so
Also, I am a writer by trade now, so this will be as detailed as I can be.
Ok need to set the tone of this trip. I went on this trip because of an mma conference that is an absolute must for those in the business. It’s called Fight Summit and its not a meet and greet of fighters but rather a place to actually learn about the industry and improve your skills.
Additionally, my best friend was coming up and it happened to be his birthday while there. Needless to say, this trip was being planned around partying first, work second.
Rewind to July when I discovered JC and I became hooked on preparing for this trip. I knew that for the first time I could afford to party a lot in Vegas and I didn’t want to squander any missed opportunities. I also knew that my buddy would blow through his cash gambling faster than Charlie Sheen get’s women. So the idea was to plan non-gambling activities to minimize his losses.
He wanted to stay at the Palms and add on top of that the fact that the UFC fight on Saturday was here, it was a no brainer. I googled, found a coupon code and booked a nice 1br through the Palms people for a lot of money. I wanted that separate room just in case.
The first money saving deal I took advantage of was from ***** ******** who had posted in the forums that he could beat almost any rate at the Palms. I tested his theory and he saved me 48% off of what I was going to pay. That’s a chunk of change. There were ZERO issues with using him instead at check in and it was great. Other friend were considering coming (some did, some did not) and each time they mentioned getting a room I bounced the rate off of him and he was fast to respond. I will definitely be using him for future Vegas trips.
The next step was getting from the airport to the hotel and back to the airport. Bella Vita was new to the scene here at the forums, but the words were enticing. I had my wife use him for her friend’s bachelorette party weekend and she had zero issues. Unfortunately mine was not the same.
After winning a contest for a gift card on here, I tried to book a party bus. They said they had a new party bus and were offering JC members a great rate of $99/hour or something to that effect. I figured this would be a great way to get around town for some activities on Friday night, and so I sent off several emails about it. Unfortunately no response, and thus no party bus booked. This wasn’t the only communication issue. My flight changed and I tried calling the number advertised on their website several times, every time getting sent to voicemail. I then called the owner directly, again getting voicemails. I sent off emails to both my confirmation and the owner himself, all while getting no response.
Day of my trip I left 3 voicemails and 2 emails. Each one said that I expected a call back and that if I was in the air, I would receive their voicemail confirming the changes. Literally a minute before they had us shut down our electronic devices, Nick called and said the change was noted. That’s what I call cutting it close.
Overall, I won’t be using them again. I am from Chicago and when I needed a limo for something, I called 4 places to get quotes. All 4 places answered within one ring and were able to get me a quote instantly. Bella Vita may be trying to make a name for themselves, but unfortunately it’s not going to be a good one.
The positive from the limo was the driver was extremely cool and was where he said he was going to be. I asked to stop off at CVS and we did before going to the hotel. He gave me his card and it said he was with executive star so now I have them as a contact.
Onto the fun stuff. The day activities planned were indoor skydiving, gun range, zip line down Freemont Street and of course UFC fight on Saturday night. Additionally I planned our table service and talked to several hosts.
First the supremely bad host. I had mentioned this in a previous thread, and now he is being outed. The guys name is Greg (that’s all I was given from my friend) and he works at Pure. I’ve been to Pure twice, the first time was insanely crowded (couldn’t move) and the second time it was dead to the world.
Greg was very pushy and kept saying that his club was the best and that I would see that. I explained I had been there before and he didn’t need to sell me on it. He then quoted me an insane price of $600/bottle for my 1 bottle min. I explained that I was getting better deals at other clubs and he again said that his was the best. At this point I started to laugh and decided to end the conversation.
Now two hosts who I did talk to, but I ended up not using. Anthony from Tryst and Chad from Club Nikki/RPM. Both were fast and responsive, but unfortunately the plans didn’t work out for us to head over to them.
The hosts we did end up using were Phil Loomis from the Palms and Darryll from Cathouse. Both were insanely great at explaining everything to me. I asked for info as if I was a moron who needed to be taught everything and they didn’t treat me poorly because of it. In fact, this made me want to party with them even more.
I decided that I wanted to pre-pay for my bottle service for Thursday and Friday night. What I meant by pre-pay and what the clubs wanted were two different things. The clubs thought it was just a cc auth that gets run the night of and I don’t have to see it. What I wanted however was to have it PAID for before I even landed in Vegas. This was due to several factors including Christmas spending and being too damn drunk to try and figure out the bill.
Once this was explained to both Phil and Darryll, they immediately went to work to get it done. It took a bit of coaxing on their end to their bosses but they pulled through. Not sure why the clubs were frowning down on it as it was guaranteed payment.
Arrival day I got in and the plan was to play poker at the Aria in their 7pm $125 poker tournament. I played well until my KK got busted by A7 when there wasn’t an ace on the board and I went all in. Lucky bastard had NOTHING and hit his ace. Not sure why he thought I was bluffing, but oh well.
Phil had texted me to let me know that the MMA Awards after party was going down at the Playboy Club and if I wanted to get in, he’d hook us up. We got in no problem and he met us at the club and got us a couple of drinks. Headed over to Ghostbar as that was the more happening place, again he bought a round for us and then he headed out.
Neither club was really “that” happening so we decided to head down to the casino and gamble. That was a mistake as I lost my ass. Went back to room early as I had a conference to get to the next day.
The details of today will be posted sometime tomorrow in as much detail as I can possibly remember. It might not be much because as of this writing, there’s 2 of us drinking tonight and we got a killer b1g1 deal from Phil for tonight.
