  • Luxor vs Flamingo?

    Hi all,

Bachelor party, likely around 10 guys (the trip is May 2016 so still working out details), we want to be on the strip but too cheap for a big suite or one of the elite hotels. Luxor and flamingo are both reasonably priced for our budget at the moment and wanted thoughts on the better option...I know flamingo is older but did some renos and has a decent pool, etc, I also wonder if it'd be more convenient to stay there given its location on the strip. Happy to get some feedback, we definitely won't be in the room often and fyi are likely there 3 nights (Thursday - Saturday).

    Thanks.

I have not stayed at Luxor but have stayed at Mandalay 3 times (2 work 1 fun). Mandalay is connected to Luxor so I can comment on location... I f I were in you situation I would stay at flamingo because of its location. It is really next door to drai's, across the street from omnia and a short cab ride to ebc and xs whereas Luxor is only really close to light. I have also gambled a lot in Luxor and don't like the general vibe but low mins were available ($5 craps in the evening). That said I have had a good time at virtually all of the casinos around the flamingo and all of those (sorry names escaping me now) had low mins as well.

I like the flamingo. The Luxor makes me nauseous with the slanted walls.. The flamingo has a fun pool. It's smaller and its centrally located. It's older, but the go rooms are nice.

I'd go with Flamingo because of location. Right in the middle of the strip. Close to other budget casinos if you want low gambling mins, but also close to higher end like Ceasers and Bellagio.
Rooms are fine, nothing fancy but nothing terrible.

A hotel room in Vegas (to me) is a glorified locker for your stuff. And a place to take an occasional nap. So location would be the deciding factor here.

Stayed at Luxor a few weeks ago. I pretty much hated it. The location sucks and the check in lines were horrendous. The other thing that pissed me off was that the room rate was good, but the pre-auth for incidentals was outrageous. Go with Flamingo. As others have said, better location, and I've heard good things about their pool.

Thanks for the feedback all! Just saw that treasure island is comparable price wise too, I know the pool won't come close and it's not as central to flamingo however I wonder if the crowd will be more along our lines (we're all late 20s).

Crowd at TI will be fine. Also super close to encore so locations is great

If you are neither, then sit back, let the rich and/or good looking people sort their shit out, and then take their scraps. Booking early is not going to get you ahead of the rich and/or good looking people. Sucks unless you are rich or good looking. But that's what makes Vegas so great. It is completely transparent."

                  Flamingo 100%.

Better location and a better pool than Luxor... enough said.

I would go Flamingo every time if choosing between the two. I have had some randomly good times at the Luxor pool, but the Flamingo for whatever reason is actually a good unpretentious way to kill a afternoon if your not doing the major pool parties. Also the rooms at the Flamingo have been updated more recently, if your staying in the pyramid section especially, Luxor the rooms are CRAZY outdated and that slanting design is disorienting as fuck at times. Lol.

Trust me from experience, those side ways elevators, and suicide hallway ledges at Luxor are the last things you need in your life after a hard night of partying. LOL
