I have booked to stay at Rio as they comp'd me a load of nights but have never stayed off the strip before and was wondering on the pluses and minuses of the Rio.
Previously I have stayed at NYNY, Monte Carlo, MGM, PH, and Palazzo.
Thanks to any who can offer info.

Pluses - Price (free is free), Voodoo Lounge view, their buffet
Minuses - Location (will spend money on cabs), Crowd (older), Property (older)

to add onto what reasonabledoubt mentioned, the rooms are very big. but yeah location is what turns me off from it the most, i prefer to be on the strip even if I have to pay a little bit more. In the end the cost of paying for a room on the strip may be the same amount i spend on taxi fees going back and forth, but there is a free shuttle if you dont mind waiting.

Stayed there 6-7 years ago and acutully booked 5 nights in October.

Cons other then the obvious distance from the strip but even getting to the Palms which is across the street is difficult.

It's a lot more to manage splitting up your night life/ gambling and taking those 1 hour breaks for a dip in the pool and a quick nap.

I never like their poker room and the casino is just average. (I love the Venetian and Wynn)

        Pros
        Price / view /room size

Car rental with insurance was normally $50 a day so saving $250 was more to gamble with and I never seemed to spend more then $100 on taxis

I'm not a public transportation person but the buses from the Rio to the strip seemed fairly fast and always seemed to catch them right when they were about to pull a way

Taxi one way back from strip to the Rio wasn't that bad of a price and if you plan it right like finishing up your night on the west side of the strip and tell the driver stay off Las Vegas bvld and to take the back roads like spring mountain road or any of the connecting roads behind Cosmo/ Monte Carlo if a remember correctly it was quick

Location is a con, large suites are a plus tho. Pool is older as well...

Stayed there a couple times and another plus is they have a variety of places to grab a quick meal or a drink that are reasonably priced. And that shuttle bus/van to Harrah's is a lifesaver. I think it is like every 20 minutes or so. Casino floor is decent, It is not the Bellagio on a Saturday night, but its ok
