  • Hard Rock or MGM

    Hey,

We're planning a trip to Vegas for the August Long Weekend for a friends stag and are undecided between staying at the Hard Rock and MGM Grand. We plan to spend the majority of time in the pools and both have good parties, but would also like to check out the casinos, restaurants and clubs on the strip.

How is getting to the strip from Hard Rock, especially at later hours?

    Thanks,

    J

Can't speak on Hard Rock but MGM is great location on the strip. You got Hakk and Wet there and close to Cosmo and other great casino's. If similar price you will be happier at MGM.
    2013 Plant Hollywood
    2014 MGM
    2014 Aria

    *upcoming plans..

I have no experience with staying at Hard Rock, but I will always vote for staying directly on the strip. Yes Vegas casino/hotels are huge but I've never once stayed in my "home" hotel the whole time and the convenience of being able to walk outside and go anywhere is huge.

        welcome!

Once lineups come out you will have a better idea of what pool parties/ nightclubs you will visit

Hard Rock is about 1 mile off the strip which is about a 30 minute walk- you might say that is easy in a cab- but because of crowds and traffic- can be time consuming/expensive.
If you stay on the strip itself there is a city bus you can buy a $8 24 hour pass to ride up and down the strip and the bus also goes to fremont st (downtown)

If you plan is non stop pool parties/nightclubs you will spend very little time in the room- you might even look at staying in a cheap room for example you can get a room across the street from MGM for $40 a night including all taxes and fees.

MGM. I have stayed at both. HRH recently has proven to be highly disorganized and doesn't care about customer service or loyalty, which is why our international group of up to 10 people no longer stays there for our yearly MDW trip.

Hands down MGM. There is a huge amount of value in staying on the strip and having hak and wet at the same location

I dont know the price difference from the 2 hotels during your stay, but if the price is close.... you should go MGM. If you want to visit the pool at Hard Rock one day, do that. But you would be spending most of you time on the strip, and going back and forth will get old to you after the first couple of days.
Ive stayed at both and I like Hard Rock, but for your intentions on this trip, unless you are saving lots of money by being at Hard Rock, you need to be at MGM.

I have stayed at: Mandalay Bay, Aria, Flamingo, Excalibur, Hooters, PH Towers / Elara, Monte Carlo, Venetian, Luxor, LV Hilton, Rio, Mirage, MGM, Hard Rock Hotel, Planet Hollywood, Stratosphere, Tuscany, Tropicana, and rented a 6BR house. I think thats all.

                Next trip:

Agree on convenience of Hak and Wet. And the lazy river is cool. Combined with the fact that MGM is classier, and HRH went down the tubes in 2013 (our 2013 MDW experience with hotel and Rehab disorganization and treatment is why we no longer go there), I recommend MGM.

Thanks for all the replies! I'm glad everyone said MGM as that was what I was leaning towards.

The price difference is fairly significant as difference was $245.29 CDN ($201.14 US) per person. But staying on the strip is deifnatley a huge benefit. We plan to spend the majority of the pool time at Wet, so it will be nice to stumble back to the room instead of try and catch a bus or cab.

30 minute walk at the end of July / begining of August sounds like a nightmare and I can see that getting old.

Thanks once again for your input.

                    Cheers

You'll prob spend a min of 20/day on cabs so that's 60-80 extra if not more plus the time lost each way. Therefore, the different in price is really only about $100 and staying on the strip is much more valuable than that.

Also remember you can get a multi day ticket for the LV Monorail that runs down the strip on that side:

No, the monorail is on the other side of the strip.
