  • Cosmopolitan vs encore wynn

    Hi,

I'm hoping you guys can help me out.

There is a group of 3 males heading out to Vegas in Mid July, aged between 25-30. We are going for a UFC event, so that is going to occupy most of our saturday.

We are deciding between the Wynn Encore or the Cosmo. from what i've read, both hotels attract a young, hip crowd and their pools are lively, that's the most important thing for us.

If we decide to stay at the Cosmo because their pools are generally more fun, is it still easy enough to make the trip to ECB, or should we just do MDC instead? bearing in mind we might only do 1 pool party.

    What do you think?

its not a big deal travelling to another property for a pool party - 100s of people do it each weekend

wynncore doesn't really have the same young, hip crowd that cosmo does
EastCoast: "I will preach. Vegas is easy. So easy. Either be rich or good looking (or mooch off someone who is one of those). If you are neither, then sit back, let the rich and/or good looking people sort their shit out, and then take their scraps. Booking early is not going to get you ahead of the rich and/or good looking people. Sucks unless you are rich or good looking. But that's what makes Vegas so great. It is completely transparent."

I agree that you shouldn't be afraid to go off property for a pool party, but characterizing Wynn/Encore as not having a young, hip crowd is disingenuous at best and outright wrong at worst. Wynn/Encore attracts a large number of the younger partying crowd with EBC (generally considered the best pool party) and XS (usually considered one of the best clubs). They just also happen to be one of the nicer luxury hotels and have a decent gambling culture there so they attract people that are also interested in that.

Really both of those will be great hotels to stay at, but while Cosmo might be more lively at their normal hotel pool or the lobby, if you are going to EBC for a pool party and potentially XS for a nightclub I'd probably choose Encore for the convenience. Less time wasted traveling, and it doesn't get easier than "Why don't you come back to my suite upstairs?" compared to "Let's get a cab somewhere else."

It's all relative lad. By the sheer number of people in Vegas, by absolute figures, sure, a subset of every casino will be a hip, young crowd. The ratio at Wynncore however is not at the level of Cosmo.

EDIT: ^^I've stayed at Encore on each of my last 3 visits - and that is my observation.

That's a much more accurate portrayal of the situation. Cosmopolitan on average has a hipper, younger crowd, but you made it sound like Wynn/Encore didn't have that going on at all and it most assuredly does.

I'm a big fan of the Cosmopolitan, I don't think there's been a Vegas trip in years where I haven't gone to Secret Pizza, and their balconies are amazing. I'm just saying if they are going to EBC and spending a lot of time at an event then I doubt they are going to have a ton of time to just be hanging out at Chandelier. If they stay at Cosmopolitan they lose 30 minute - 1 hour of what doesn't sound like a long trip cabbing back and forth from EBC.

I do week long trips on average, I've seen that a lot of Australians do too, so while we may have plenty of time to waste, people on short trips do really benefit more from partying where they are staying.

            Stay at Cosmo... do MDC.

or... Stay at Wynn and do EBC

            Cosmo imo is more central.

I like this hotel alot... hence why i dont stay anywhere else... it has everything and CVS is across the road... along with Miracle mile and Earl of Sandwich...

and just to clarify, when we are talking 'young and hip' what age are we talking?

my group of friends are 25-30 years old. dont want to be hanging around with teenagers on their first trip away from mum n dad!

Every pool party and club is 21+. EBC and MDC should have almost identical average ages probably somewhere in the 25-30 range. You wouldn't feel out of place at either.

The difference that is being discussed here is subtle and in my opinion unimportant to your decision. If you were to pick a random restaurant or bar at each property, with Cosmopolitan you are much more likely to get an average age closer to 25 than you are in Wynn/Encore where the gamblers with real money, 40-70 year old people, skew the averages up.

My whole point is certain areas of Wynn/Encore are just as young as Cosmopolitan, the gambling floor near the club entrances is usually filled with 21-30 year olds, and restaurants like Andrea's before clubbing and Allegro after XS starts winding down have extremely similar demographics to what Cosmopolitan has.

Pretty much the point people are making is that more people at Cosmopolitan are in your age range, while Wynn/Encore brings in a smaller proportion of younger people due to the fact that the property also has clientele outside that age range who care about things like golfing and gambling. Overall with what your trip sounds like you aren't just going to be hanging out in the various parts of your hotel for hours. You are going to be at a pool party, at an event, and maybe at a club, so the number of older people vs. younger people sitting in the lobby or gambling at the tables doesn't sound very relevant, while staying where you are partying might be more-so.

Really just know you can't go wrong with either.

Vote for Cosmo- Just completed another great stay 4/2-4/7. Love the BLVD pool and MDC is right next door.
I been staying the last 5 years and my dude Tyler (Bartender at BLVD) really knows how to make those drinks

I've never stayed at Wynncore but have stayed at Cosmo something like 5 or 6 times (and have plans to go back on my next trip), and I'll echo everything that has been said about MDC, BLVD pool, the balconies, etc. and I'll also add that the dining options options are great. Wynncore has fantastic restaurants of course, but at Cosmo you also have some fun, casual (cheaper) options like Holstein's, China Poblano, and of course Secret Pizza that are right next to Chandelier and Marquee.
