SLS Hotel?

Hey guys,

So I heard about the fight was slightly late on the hotel bookings, SLS was still available at a reasonable price and I went for it. I love SLS in LA so figured it would be fine right?

Now looked and it looks sooooo far down the strip. Anyone stayed here? How is it?

I stayed there for one night last summer. I personally did not care for it and ended up checking out and into a different hotel. It had a dark, dreary feeling to it. I think they tried a bit too hard to be unique with the exposed ceilings, strange paint, etc. but ended up just very scattered and low end. My particular room had very little sunlight and even the old school blinds (where you twist the plastic stick to open). Add to that the less desirable location and I won't be staying there again. I will say I tried a little pizza place inside which was good and the pool was nice, albeit on the small side. They are very aggressively mailing comps and offers. I signed up for their players card and barely gambled and am receiving free night offers in the mail, which tells me they may be struggling.

I have not stayed at the hotel, but have been to the casino and nightlife. I actually liked it, but this might be a bit through alcohol goggles. They do draw a pretty good crowd, probably mostly through the name as I agree the location is pretty bad.

Any situation in Vegas is what you make of it. And mine is just one opinion many on these boards have given better reviews of SLS.

i was there in Nov for Sat-Mon - had a blast. granted there was a huge group of LA people there we were partying with both nights at Life so that helped. If you are planning on going to Life or eating at a restaurant there i think its fine to stay at.

I hate that hotels, sorry. I gambled there, got compd rooms, stayed, tried the restaurants, etc.. but I may be spoiled but the true high end hotels Aria/Bellagio/Vdara/Cosmo/Palazzo/Venetian, etc.. etc.. etc.. . but it's so underwhelming compared to the what it's going up against. Rooms small, area of the strip is just shit, and any money saved you're gonna waste cabbing to the places you wanna go. It feels like the hotel isn't complete, you can see the pipes in the ceiling, I guess they did it on purpose but it makes the hotel look cheap when you consider what the other hotels look like. The rooms are the exact same as the Sahara, but painted, seriously, I was soooo disappointed. Cancel get a refund, look at Vdara, even Planet Hollywood if it's available.

I think the key here is that SLS is really cheap in comparison. Their rates are nowhere near a place like the Venetian so why should anyone expect them to be similar. I'm planning a trip in July right now and the average price per night at SLS is $67, the average price at the Venetian is $269, I kind of doubt the cost of cabs is going to be $200 more per night. Maybe you have a point with Planet Hollywood as an option at $106, but I've heard their pool is pretty bad, they don't have a club onsite, and even then I don't think cab rides are going to cost $40 more each day. Most of my trips to Vegas are 7-10 days long so while it might not make sense to try to save $50 a night on a 2 day trip, it really can add up for some people.

This thread started over someone booking a room for fight night after the rates had already started to hike up, I tried to find out what the price difference was between the Venetian and SLS at this point and the Venetian was up to $600 a night for Friday and Saturday while it looks like the SLS is actually completely sold out for those days, so I think Camzi probably made a decent call immediately booking SLS even if it isn't the epitome of luxury.

I agree for this specific situation, it being fight night and the different prices out there I would just stick with SLS and be prepared to pay some money on cabs. It still will be much cheaper than changing rooms and spending several hundred dollars more a night somewhere else.

In general terms if you can get Planet Hollywood for just $40 more I would always go with PH due to location, unless you really plan to spend a lot of time at the hotel pool and even then I am not sure if SLS's is any good. Paying an extra $200 for something like Venetian or Wynn is really up to each individual and depends on what people are looking for. But right now SLS is pricing itself in the same category as Luxor or Excalibur and compared to them it is a much better hotel and crowd (except for location). It will all be very interesting to see in a couple of years, once Resort World and possibly other hotels in that area open at which point SLS's location won't be all that bad anymore.

SLS must be hurting bad. I got an offer today for three comped nights per month for the next three months, including weekends (even Rock in Rio weekends and MDW, only May 1/2 is blacked out). And I only gambled there one single night for a couple of hours last November.

i gambled there in Nov as well... lost a few hundred $. just got my offer and wasn't great - no comp rooms and rates nothing special.

It was about $400-500 that I put down. I did go up to about $2000 relatively quick and started betting $100 a hand for while from there on out. Stayed even for the most part then started giving some back before I got up with about $1500.
