Hotel coupon question

Hi all

I have found a coupon online that has 20% off rooms at a particular hotel. The only thing is, it appears that the coupon is for employees of a particular large hotel chain.

Has anyone ever booked using one of these codes and, if so, whether the front desk ever checked that you were an employee of the company?

Looks like it would save me over $300 if I could use this code.

I'm not sure how certain hotel chain works, but my friend works for the corporate office of a hotel chain and when she uses her employee discount she has to check in with her ID badge. Not 100% sure, but I think they would ask for some sort of proof that you work for that chain. But since it's 20% off, maybe not? Her discount is usually 50-75% off, depends on where she stays.

20% does seem a little low for an employee discount, but not sure. Depending on the hotel chain some hotels allow employees to book discounted hotel rooms for family, so if this chain falls under that category then theoretically you could always say your dad booked it for you if they ask for an Employee ID, but that could be a little iffy.

So I called up using a different coupon, which I believe was given out to people who signed up (free) to receive special offers.

When I went to book, I was asked whether I had a reference number in the email where I got the coupon. I said I didn't have the email in front of me - the booking was made, but I was told that I should show a copy of the email if I was asked any questions when booking in at the front desk.

Interesting that they'd be so hardline about a coupon code that was given out to people freely.

But I would say generally if you can book something online it will probably hold up.

To give you a personal example
Two years ago a third party travel site (not the hotel site) was offering name brand center strip hotel rooms for $15 a night including tax. No resort fees, free buffet breakfast and $20 resort credit to spend on property. This was a straight cash deal no casino offer, etc. If you wondering why so low it was mid week during the winter.
Anyway I booked online, called the hotel the day before to confirm and had no problems.

Generally Las Vegas is happy to have you. Remember there are 40,000,000 people a year passing thru and 150,000 hotel rooms.
I think about the guy who got prince harry's room at encore for like $1000 one night because he saw it online and booked it.
