  • Upgrade Sandwich higher success?

So in the past when I have done the upgrade sandwich all I said was "are there any upgrades available" and sometimes yes, sometimes no. I was wondering, do you have a higher success rate if you have a specific type of room in mind?

For example you reserve a 2 queen bed standard room. You check in and specifically ask for a room on a higher floor with strip view or an upgrade to a 2 bedroom suite.

Obviously the more money in the sandwich the better the odds, but I was wondering if being specific had a higher success than just asking for an upgrade?

Knowing in advance definitely helps, but I don't think it's very necessary. Even if you don't request something specific though it's always helpful to be familiar with the different types of rooms at the hotel you're staying at because if you just ask "are there any complimentary upgrades available?" they might offer you something that in their mind is better, but in your mind really isn't. An example of this might be moving you to a newer tower or something where although the rooms might be a little nicer you have to walk way farther to get anywhere.
