  • MGM or Palms on a Tuesday?

Hi guys, me and my buddy (both 25yos) are doing a roadtrip in the US in the second half of August and will be staying in Las Vegas for a day and night, this will be Tuesday (yes, it's only one day, can't make it more, but we will definitely come back in the future). I've been tasked to choose the hotel and after reading an endless list of forum threads and other sites it boiled down to either MGM (executive queen room) or Palms.

Now as we are both new to Vegas, it would be probably better to stay on the Strip (was thinking also Mirage, or even better, Flamingo, due to its central location), that means, MGM. On the other hand if the action at Palms is supposed to be way better, we would sacrifice the convenience. We are definitely keen on meeting some young females. So the main question is - is the action at Palms on a Tuesday (the pool, Ghostbar, Moon) worth going off the strip, bearing in mind we're newcomers? Btw, are there any benefits for Palms' guests in terms of getting into Ghostbar/Moon (one of the few clubs open on a Tuesday)?

I've been struggling getting answer to this, so thanks for any.

I would still do MGM, but I really like the Palms. I wish it was on the strip. If ghostbar is open you would have that, Tues is Moon's industry night, and The View(old playboy club) is a cool spot to have a few drinks. If you contact Chad Noyes you wont have any problem getting into any of them.

first time in vegas and there for one night? no brainer IMO - stay on the strip. Palms is cool, but its off strip and away from the action.

      and just curiously, why MGM?

Agree on MGM. If it's your first time and you've only got one night, you should stay on strip to get the strip experience

Thanks for the recommendations everybody. Yeah, it was probably a no brainer, but I had to hear it from more experienced people anyway.

As for why we picked MGM - it seems to be the golden mean. After looking at the prices, I pre-selected 11 hotel's:
1st choice: MGM Grand, Cosmopolitan, Palazzo, Venetian, Flamingo
2nd choice: Treasure Island, Planet Hollywood, Mirage, New York New York
+ Hard Rock and Palms (special consideration due to them being party houses but off the strip)

I decided to leave Cosmopolitan, Palazzo and Venetian for another time, as we might not stay in the room much and it just doesn't seem to be worth it for a single night at the higher price. We want a decent room for a decent price. Flamingo has great central location and a good pool but the rooms are tiny and ratings not as good - still, it is a backup choice, mainly due to its price/location ratio. The rest (2nd choice hotels) just all seem mediocre (PH might be ok, but the pools are shit) or not quite there when it comes to meeting other young people (Mirage?). They are also not that cheaper than MGM for us to consider them as better choices. We would like to hang around the pool just for a while and perhaps meet some people there - MGM seems to be a good choice.

I'd do MGM. You have access to soooo much more. I have never been on a Tuesday, but say the Palms is dead, and now you're stuck out in the middle of no where. If you stay at MGM, you're within walking distance to so much.

MGM as Palms is more of a locals casino during the week.
