  • Cosmo or Encore @ Wynn

    Ok JC Forumites.

Interested to know which one to choose.

Cosmo - Location great in the heart of the strip. Marquee, young vibe, new, 5 star

Encore - XS, Surrender, Tryst EBC across from Fashion Show Mall.

I didnt like Bellagio when I was down because it was way too busy full of tourists taking photos. It was like a md house of tourists who didnt belong to the hotel all the time!!!

Next trip (which is scheduled for March) is either one of these... recommendations/experiences appreciated!

Ill be in the minority, but I would go with Encore. I am just not as Cosmo crazy as some. I love visiting the bars there, but wouldnt want an extended stay there. Casino-wise the edge goes to Wynn/Encore. Location to Cosmo(unless you like going to Riviera). Clubs to Wynn

Jhaulotte... i was thinking the same way... Encore is a little out the way.. but with Fashion show there is plenty to see and do within proximity (i..e no need to cab it). I also dont think it would be meuch of a shit storm either (i.e. case in point Bellagio).

I did go over to Cosmo quite a bit on my last visit, and actually enjoyed it. However, for an extended stay.. not quite sure!

Maybe proximity is a tad better (i.e. just across from PH, Walgreens and all the eateries that I happened to frequent as a solo traveller) was alot better than walking across toward Caesars.

This is why I am leaning more to Cosmo.... but am torn.

If you don't do crazy gambling then go for Cosmo it's nice waking up and walking out to the balcony every morning to start your day. If you're a solo traveler too then Cosmo would have more restaurants within walking distance for a quick bite and if you want to go to the south end of the strip it's faster/cheaper rather than coming from wynn. Unless you plan on hitting up the WynnCore clubs quite often then it's not really necessary to stay over there, especially if you want to visit the newer clubs like Hakkasan and Light.

What I am thinking if you want poker... Aria is next door. Basic table games cosmo has it covered as their tabel mins are ok as it caters toward more of a younger crowd. I was just thinking in proximity and also for eats and drinks... I liked going over to miracle mile for eats and drinks. It was easy, less crowded and had a decent variety. I couldnt stand this about Bellagio. They barel had any choice for casual options. However, I think the rooms at Encore look sweet...

They do look very sweet, I have a comp there I need to use but haven't had to yet and it would be definitely be top 3 hotels I would stay at but from what you're saying I think Cosmo is more of a logical choice for you. I would prefer gambling either at PH or Bellagio and poker at Aria. I stay away from Cosmo's casino just cause I know they're losing money per quarter so they're tight on their games and table mins are constantly $25 for bj when I can go over to PH for 10/15

If you're playing poker, how high are you looking to play (I'm assuming No Limit)? Wynn's room in general the games at 1/3, 2/5 and 5/10 play deeper than anywhere else on the strip b/c they have the highest max buyins. I've found that room to be pretty polarized in terms of players, the fish are pretty fishy with alot of cash to burn and the regs are alot tougher to play against (esp the higher you play). If you're only going to play 1/3 (or 1/2) than don't worry about it, wherever you play is fine. Also, Venetian's room is next door, they generally have a ton of game selection, but also a ton of grinders at 2/5 and up.

If you stay at Cosmo, yeah Aria is close their 1/3 is fine to play and they generally have 5+ games going at that level and alot more on weekends, their 2/5 and up can be grinder city, but you can still find juicy games. I know you weren't a big fan of the Bellagio, but it's poker room generally has the weakest 2/5 and 5/10 games because of the lower max cap buyin vs Wynn, Venetion and Aria, so I'd say don't be shy to play there either.

Also, get a players card and always swipe in with the dealer in the rooms you play, the above hotels all offer $2 per hour comps. Also if you're keen on a buffet with a huge line at these hotels, ask for a comp, even if it's small, when going through the poker room you get a line bypass at Aria, Wynn and Bellagio buffets (meaning you get the vip line, not general line).

This post may have been a little off topic, but I hope you enjoy your choice. Have a good time and gl.

I stayed in a wrap around terrace suite at the cosmo on my last visit for 7 nights. The room was great, it was big and like some of the other members have highlighted it was nice to wake up and step outside onto the balcony. The hotel itself wasnt great in my opinion, it just felt big and empty. The Casino is really badly designed. When i visited the Wynn and the Encore the second you walk into these hotels you can really sense the difference in class. These Hotels are buzzing, feels like there is something always going on inside them. I actually stayed at the Wynn on my last trip also for 1 night in a standard king room. I felt the room was classier and simply better, more thought had gone into it. I must add you have full kitchen facilities at the Cosmo so this was handy for pre-drinking and after partying.
Personally I don't think there is anything wrong with either hotels location on the strip but if anything i think the Wynn and the Encore is better located. Someone mentioned above that the cosmo is more centrally positioned on the strip, i would have to disagree with that comment. I would say the hotels centre on the strip are the Venetian and Mirage, the Wynn is next door to the Venetian so you would have to say this is more in line with being centre of the strip.
I am actually staying at the Encore for 13 nights in August

It used to be that way cause the south end of the strip was dead to club goers but now since Hakkasan and Light have opened up I would still consider Cosmo to be center strip as far as clubs go and taking taxis to get there. Carnival Court does help attract a lot of tourists so it does seem like that part of the strip is center strip but I wouldn't think so anymore with the new clubs that just opened.

I prefer Cosmo, but you might actually prefer Encore for the reasons you cited... fewer tourists, less crowds.
