  • Mandalay Bay?

Location aside, how's Mandalay Bay? Thinking of staying there in November due to Light being there. I have a great quote for a standard room, but I am sure the rates will go up once Light opens up. What's the vibe like now?

It's a nice place if you are not planning on trying to go many other places. It does seem to be a bit less busy than other resorts on the strip.

Just posted this in the other MB thread but... there's a great deal at THEhotel right now. Promo code P3CPSCO gets you 20% off plus $50 back in a resort credit (plus $25 in pool bar credit too according to a MB operator?). For a Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night in June (weekend before EDC), they only charged $394 for a THESuite (plus the $25/day resort fee).

I like Mandalay Bay. The pools were chill. I'd stay there more often, but value wise, I get better deals in other places.

If you are neither, then sit back, let the rich and/or good looking people sort their shit out, and then take their scraps. Booking early is not going to get you ahead of the rich and/or good looking people. Sucks unless you are rich or good looking. But that's what makes Vegas so great. It is completely transparent."

Im sure Light and DayLight will do well (at least in the begining), but thinking that they will fill the hotel seems pretty far fetched to me. Hotels fill the venues, not the other way around. I cant think of one example to support what some of you are suggesting. Nikki Beach had a great name, but it didnt fill the hotel. Not even close. And in the end, it failed. Most on here agreed the hotel played a big part in its failure. I can uderstand people thinking the Venues will do well (Although I have my doubts), but thinking the hotel is suddenly going to turn around, I just cant see it.

dnix - I'd actually give Mandalay a 50/50 shot at turning it around. True, as you accurately put it, hotels do fill the venues, but remember MGM is sinking a good amount of money into renovating theHotel as well. It was "modern" ten years ago. Now it isn't. This is all part of the larger effort of Mandalay to rebrand itself to appeal to the younger, hipper crowds willing to part with cash while partying, not to couples and families looking for a vacation.

Mandalay has been a fine resort, host of many fights and events, etc. but it's always kind of been down there by itself at the bottom of the Strip with no real daylife to draw people in and, aside from Mixx for a brief period, no real nightlife to draw people in either. It will be interesting to see what they pull off this year. Daylight could compete with Wet for a time being (Not that MGM will care), although I'd still pick Wet to reign supreme. IMO that part of the Strip has long needed a new injection of energy so the new additions to Mandalay, along with the debut of Hakkasan at MGM, should make for an interesting summer.

My wife and I stayed at the Mandalay last May. So far as service, cleanliness and what not the hotel was nice. The pool was pretty nice BUT not a crazy party or anything. No long lines for cabs and cabs seemed to be able to get to/from MB very easily. With all of that said it was kind of boring and stuffy, we went to other places every night and really only checked out their pool once.
