THEhotel and Mandalay Bay your thoughts?

So like a lot of people I am kind of excited for Light to be opening up. Anyways in march I have a friends birthday and so if Light is open during that time we are going to go there.

So it seems we have 2 choices of hotels. There's Mandalay Bay and the new THEhotel. I have never stayed at either one though I had a friend just stay at THEhotel and she loved it. As for Mandalay Bay I hear great things about it too.

Just wanted to know what would you guys go for? The new THEhotel or keep it classy at Mandalay Bay?

LIGHT is slated to open in April. I've stayed at THEhotel, the rooms were very nice...but if LIGHT is your main reason for choosing Mandalay or THEhotel then you may want to look elsewhere. For the money I think you can do better.

Mandalay Bay is my favorite place to stay in Vegas (the main tower, that is, since I find THEhotel to be a bit overpriced and a bit cold compared to the main tower; also, for the record, THEhotel opened in 2003 and isn't exactly "new", although it's slated for a big renovation as part of the conversation to a Delano). Best pool in town, some of my favorite bars, and plenty of restaurants. All that being said, Light isn't scheduled to open until 26 April, and while there may be some sort of soft opening in advance of that, I'm pretty sure March is too early.

It was like 2004 when I stayed at THEhotel....so yeah....it could certainly be different by now. 8 Years is an eternity in Vegas...

It's still nice, I just don't think it's so much nicer that it's worth paying for when I get free rooms at Mandalay Bay. Plus I'm not a fan of how far removed it is from casino and the restaurants. It's certainly not a bad choice, though.

Also, I'm not sure when the renovations are going to start or how disruptive they'll be, so that's another unknown about THEhotel.

My first trip to Vegas I stayed at Mandalay Bay. I had a great time, thought the rooms were solid, enjoyed the pool/bar area. We got a great deal on rooms with a comped food/drink deal. Only downside to me is the location.

Thanks for the info guys! I actually got the date wrong. The birthday is in June. I have another birthday celebration in March though. I'm the party planner for my friends haha.

I think I may just go with whichever one ends up being a better deal!

I wouldnt stay there for the club. Id just cab it. Pool is cool, BUT last I checked the hotel out, is was competing with Circus Circus for a family friendly resort award.

I've stayed there probably six times in the last 2-3 years, and can't say I've noticed anything even remotely like this.

I really didn't think it was that family friendly. I still might give it a shot though. Still 3 months away so not sure what the birthday girl wants to do. Thanks for the info!

I usually stay at Mandalay Bay, and last time, I was bumped up to THEhotel and THEhotel is much nicer. There is no waiting for your elevator, the valet is so much closer. It’s just easier to navigate. Also, Mandalay Bay has lots of UFC/Convention/Concert stuff to deal with always. You can avoid all the mess by staying at THEhotel. It’s much nicer.

I love the pool at Mandalay Bay but get a bungalow or cabana. Otherwise, you wait too long for waitresses and servers to bring your food and drink.

got upgraded from mandalay to THEHotel when i stayed there 4 years ago. there are only suites in this tower which is really nice, you have a seperate entry which is not really busy. getting cabs from there is easy
also nice is that you can walk straight from the entry to the elevators and dont need to walk for 20min to find one

other than that there is no separate pool at THEHotel (at least i didnt find i last time) and you have to walk through the mandalay casino to get to the pool area. its a bit of a walk to get there
action level is low but that probably changes with the opening of light
