My brother booked my hotel for me as a birthday gift, but under his name. We have the same last name so should I have any trouble or should we phone the hotel just in case?
Using my brothers reservation at the Venetian. Will that be a problem?

Is this a room he paid for, or is it a comp? If he paid for it, then I'd still call the hotel and make sure it won't be a problem for you to check in; I can't imagine that just having the same last name as the person on the reservation is enough for the hotel. And if you're charging the room to a credit card that's not yours, I'm pretty sure they need to have some sort of authorization on file.

Just want to clarify. When your brother booked the room, did he put the check in name as his? If that's the case it might be a big problem. From what I understand, he must be present to check in, even if he puts your name on the reservation. I believe he must change the check in name to your name for you to check in without him. You should call to confirm though, and if you could, let us know the results.
