When you call the hotel/casino to book a room, is the person who answers/books you the host, or do you have to ask to speak to a host? The people who answer don't offer good deals, so I hope they aren't the hosts.

Casino hosts are usually people who you establish a multi-visit relationship with, and you have their direct number to call and find out what deals/comps they can offer based on the gambling you've done in the past. You can call and ask to speak with a casino host, and they may give you something more than what's generally available (or more likely, a decent rate with the potential to be comped based on play that visit), but if your play isn't what they're looking for you're probably on your own in the future.
Basically it's one step up from the offers you get from the MLife/Total Rewards/Grazie/Identity/etc tiered programs.

Ever since I reached Platinum status, whenever I call to book rooms they transfer me to a host. I don't have a relationship with them at all, just a random host. They then make the offer for comped nights and room type, and if I'm booking additional rooms those are always at the typical "tier discount" based on the Plat status.Originally posted by Bababooey323 View PostIf you wager 1k worth at the sportsbook and play some slots and poker, is that something they wouldn't care for?
My wife and I have linked accounts so they look at our action combined. Our typical 3 night budget consists of around $1500 in slot play and $1000 in a mixture of BJ, Craps, and Baccarat. So we take $2500 to gamble, but since there are short term wins (that we usually give back) we probably gamble more like $3000 per trip with at least 50% of that being in slots.
I really don't think the Platinum Status has anything at all to do with getting a comped room. They've told me they are reviewing our play to determine the offers. Honestly, I haven't really experienced anything overly special with the Plat status...Like all great travelers, I've seen more than I remember, and remember more than I have seen.

Not sure $1k worth of bets at the sportsbook in enough to move the needle. I think the house edge in Sportsbook is 5-10%, so the casino would expect to win $50 or $100 per person on average from people betting $1000. That's equivalent to about an hour or two of $25/hand blackjack ($25 x 100 hands/hour x 2% house edge) which is unlikely to get you a buffet, much less a free room.
Poker's not much better due to the vig being capped regardless of how big the pot gets. The casino gets $4 or $5 per hand divided by all the players at the table and will base it's comp on that.

Your gambling is all determined by pretty much how much of the losses will go to the house. That's the reason slot play is highly looked upon as opposed to sportsbook/poker.Originally posted by Bababooey323 View PostIf you wager 1k worth at the sportsbook and play some slots and poker, is that something they wouldn't care for?
Next time you visit, ask for a host contact and try to keep with them for your trips. It does limit the number of hotels you can go to but if you have a good relationship it makes your trips that much better. Friend of mine uses a host at MGM Grand and he gets a lot of comps...mind you his parents go once a month though so he just feeds off of that.Venetian/Palazzo/IP/Cosmo/Mirage

Oh don't worry I'll drink it. But you better know that when I do, we about to get buck!
