Looks like someone in that Facebook thread called reservations and confirmed. So much for Cosmo taking the no-resort-fee high road.

I was just reading through their fine print on the website to look for it. I dint find it but I found that they authorize your CC for 150 per night for incidentals. That seems a bit excessive.

They've been doing the incidentals thing from the get-go, but as I said in another thread, for my recent visit they never put the hold on my card. I even checked multiple times while in Vegas, and it never showed up (it had in the past). I guess I lucked out that time. And the incidentals KILLED me the first time I stayed there. Four nights, so that was $600 I didn't even have access to.

That's one of the highest ones I've heard of. It can really put a damper on a trip if you're going with a tight budget. I know the Venetian/Palazzo does $100 for your whole stay.

You can't really blame hotels though, if they put the hold on your card and you're going to eat anyway...you might end up just eating at the hotel since your funds are already strapped there. It also covers people who only put enough money for the room and end up charging everything to their room, only to have the hotel find out that they can't charge since your card is declining.
          Venetian/Palazzo/IP/Cosmo/Mirage

          My hotels of choice.

Oh don't worry I'll drink it. But you better know that when I do, we about to get buck!

Wynn does it as well. So 5 nights was $750 off my CC. Because of their stupidly high pre authorization fees it means I always have to book my rooms though a site where I can prepay it, as otherwise when I check in I hit my limit and then have no use of my card.

They don't authorize your card for the incidentals when you do prepaid reservations? That's a first that I've heard.

Both Cosmo and Mandarin Oriental put a daily hold on my card for incidentals on pre-paid stays. I used a card specifically for that purpose as I was staying 6 nights at each property.

It's funny because 2 of my trips at Mirage and one at MGM they told me I didnt have to even give a card unless I planned on charging to the room. Once trip I didnt bring a CC(maybe went a little overboard on previous trip) and paid with debit card and Mirage wanted to charge 20/day for incidentals on a cc and she said dont worry about it.

And there it is when you go to book a room at Cosmo's webpage or Marriott.com: "Guests arriving on or after January 1, 2013, will be subject to a nightly resort fee of $25 per room plus applicable taxes."

                    :P

Gamble with the hotels players card and before you leave ask the people working at the players club desk to have the front desk remove them upon check out.

Cosmo has been losing money since they opened. They are a casino, but make no money off of gamblers. They are doing decent with their non-gaming revenue, but it's not enough.

"The Cosmopolitan, in its earnings report Wednesday, said the casino results were hurt by unlucky play at its table games. They held, or won, just 9.7 percent of the money wagered by gamblers during the quarter vs. the expected hold of 12 percent to 15 percent."

Maybe I need to start gambling here

Hmmm. They do attract more of the younger crowd and those people just don't gamble like the old folks. And isn't their rewards program terrible? Maybe that's why.
